GOT Mafia 80

Piper of Chaos

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

Kurokaze and I are modding the next best mafia game available in your stores. Setup and setting are mostly unclear, although I favour a Westeros setting myself.

If you want to play, send a PM to Piper of Chaos or Kurokaze.

More to come here, stay tuned...

RULES

All players must ..

A1) Have an account on the mafia discussion board, with the same account name as on the main board.

A2) Log in and view the game thread and the discussion board anonymously at all times, unless they have informed the mods that this is not possible for technical reasons. (If you see that somebody playing isn't viewing the thread anonymously, don't post this information on the thread, because that would be silly.)

A3) Post at least once every 24 hours. Following the end of Night 1, any player who has not posted within the last 24 hours will be automatically modkilled, whether or not the mods announce this on the thread.

There will be no modkills due to inactivity on day/night 1. If a modkill (of any kind) is appropriate before the end of night 1, a replacement will be sought, and a modkill will only be used as a last resort.

The mods may grant extensions to this 24 hour time limit in some cases. Please contact the mods as early as possible if you wish to request an extension. The modkill limit will certainly be extended over the weekend; see the game thread itself for details.

A4) Send in role prescribed night actions (including the desire to take no action) within the time limit. (The mods encourage players to send in night actions before night falls, if this is practical and won't unduly influence your choice of action).

A5) Treat everybody involved in the game with courtesy and respect.

A6) Make any edits the mods request of them as soon as possible, whether or not they believe that the posts need to be edited.

A7) Contact the game mods as soon as possible if you feel you are at risk of breaking a rule or fear they or another person may have already done so. (Please do not post about possible rule violations on the thread itself.)

Players must not ...

B1) Act in any way intended to reduce the chance of their faction achieving its win conditions. (However, should all surviving members of the evil faction agree that they wish to resign and end the game early, they may do so by PMing the mods privately, without stating their intentions on-thread until the mods post to announce that the game is over.)

B2) Discuss the game with any other living players outside this game thread except when told they may do so in their role PMs.

B3) Reveal any information about the game at all in any other thread than this one, or in any other forum (including message boards and chat rooms) where it may be seen by a living player.

B4) Give anybody but the mods access to any of their accounts (including game alts), either here or on the mafia discussion board.

B5) Attempt to obtain advice about the game from anybody not currently playing.

B6) Post information on the thread relating to another player's past or current activity on (or absence from) the board that would not otherwise be available to anybody reading the thread.

B7) Quote, in whole or part, PMs from (or other private conversations with) the mods on the thread, or discuss the timing of any PMs sent to the mods.

B8) Post on the thread at any time after they are dead until the mods themselves post on the thread to announce that the game is over. Any posts made (accidentally or otherwise) after death should be immediately edited blank.

B9) Make any bets about the game.

B10) Make any posts to the game thread with any account other than their game alt, before the game is over. Any posts made "out-of-alt" should be edited blank as soon as possible.

B11) Speculate about the identify behind the alt of any living player, expose the identity of any living player or provide information that the mods consider reasonably likely to cause a person's identity to be exposed.

B12) Offer to break any of these rules or any other rules the mods have set in place for the game, encourage others to do so or help to conceal the fact that rules have been broken.

AND JUST SO YOU KNOW

C1) Failure to comply with the rules may result in any punishment the mods deem appropriate, including, but not limited to: a request to edit posts; formal warnings on thread; "modkilling", and ending the game prematurely in favor of one faction or none. The mods will also report rule infractions to the metamods after the game. Except where clearly stated in the rules, the mods are free to respond to any rules violation in whatever manner they wish. In all cases the mods' decision on these matters is final.

C2) Feel free to PM or IM your thoughts (or questions) to the mods. We love to hear them!

C3) The mods reserve the right to amend the rules during the game if we realize we've forgotten to cover something. Or, you know, if we have any other reason.

-------------------------

As well as running the game on this thread, the mods are also responsible for administering the spoiler thread on the discussion board. Anybody not actively involved in the game (whether spectators or dead players) can request access to this thread by PMing the mods. Please note that while in general the mods will be happy to let anybody have access to this thread, they do reserve the right to refuse access to anybody for any reason. In particular, players who are modkilled for inactivity will not be spoiled. Accordingly, please do not ask anybody other than the mods for access to the spoiler thread or give yourself access to it, even if you have the power to do so.

Once given access to the thread, spoiled spectators should also take note of the following rules, and must not ...

D1) Share any information from the spoiler thread with living players, or post such in a forum where it may be seen by living players.

D2) Offer any advice, hints or strategy to living players.

D3) Make personal attacks on players in the game or on posters in the spoiler thread itself

D4) Post on the game thread before the mods announce that the game is over.

Spectators (of any sort) who ignore these rules are likely to have their access to the spoiler thread revoked and to be reported to the metamods.

Game Mechanics

1 - General Structure

Players may begin posting as soon as the mods announce that the game has started on the thread. The game begins during the day. The day ends when when a sufficient number of people have voted to lynch a player (remove that player from the game) or voted to end the day without a lynch. The mods will post maximum time limits for the length of a day on the game thread. If no consensus is reached when the time expires, the day ends with no lynch. When the day phase has ended, night begins. The mods will then post a scene reporting the outcome of the day. Players may continue posting in the thread but no voting is allowed. Night ends when the mods post the morning scene reporting the outcome of the night actions. Day and night phases continue to alternate until the game ends.

2 - Day Phase

During the day, players may post in the thread and vote. Some roles may have special powers which can be used during the day. See the role list for details.

2.1 - Voting Mechanics

To vote for a player: bold that player's name.

To vote to end the day without a lynch: bold the word night.

To change your vote: bold the other player's name (or bold night).

To remove your vote without casting a new vote: bold the phrase remove vote.

2.2 - Voting Restrictions

You may only vote during the day phase. You can only have one vote outstanding at any time. You may not vote for yourself. You may not edit a vote into a post. You may not edit a vote out of a post.

2.3 - Bold Restrictions

The use of bold should be limited to voting, except in some cases and for some specific roles. If you want to emphasize a players name or another word, you can underline the word or post using a different color

2.4 - Majority Defined

A majority means either more than half of the active players voting for one player's lynch or half or more of the active players voting to go to night without a lynch.

2.5 - Ending the Day

The day ends as soon as a majority is reached (or, if the players fail to vote for any action, once the time limit for the day has elapsed). Anyone lynched is no longer an active player and must not post in the thread. Votes can no longer be withdrawn and new votes cannot be cast until the night phase ends.

2.6 - Evening Scene

The mods will post a scene shortly after the day ends to report the results of the day actions. If the day ended with a player's lynch, the mods will also reveal the alt and alignement (innocent/evil) of the lynched player. The Joker will turn up as "innocent".

3 - Night Phase

During the night, players may post in the thread but may not vote. Some players will have the ability to perform special actions. See the role list for details.

3.1 - Performing a Night Action

If your role includes the ability to perform a special action at night, you need to PM the mods to indicate the action you wish to take. Most, if not all, roles have the ability to "withhold" their powers (i.e. take no action). This will be made clear in the description of the role: see the role list. If you chose to not perform your allowed action, you must PM "no action" to the mods. The game will also have a time limit on the maximum length of a night. All players must PM their night actions to the mods within this timeframe. Players are strongly encouraged to send their night actions as soon as possible: you may also send in a PM for your special action during the day phase.

3.2 - Contingent PM

If you send in a PM during the day phase, you may choose to list alternative actions contingent on the manner in which the day ended. If none of the contingencies you list actually occur, your PM will be disregarded, and you must send a new PM to the mods.

3.3 - Provisional PM

You may choose to send a provisional PM if you want to further consider your night action but do not want to extend the night if all other roled players have decided upon their actions. Provisional PMs must be clearly marked as such. A provisional PM will not be acted upon by the mods until it becomes a 'definite PM.' A provisional PM becomes definite as soon as ( a ) you confirm your choice with another PM, ( b ) all other roled players that need to send night actions have done so, or ( c ) the time limit for the night has expired.

As a courtesy to other players we ask that you confirm your provisional PM as soon as you are able.

3.4 - Last Resort PM

In extraordinary circumstances you may be allowed to send in a last resort PM. A last resort PM will not be acted upon by the mods until ( a ) you confirm your choice with another PM or ( b ) the time limit for the night has expired. Should you need to send a last resort PM, you must first seek the mods approval by explaining the circumstances that necessitate such a PM. Last resort PMs are accepted only at the discretion of the mods.

3.5 - Failure to PM

If not all PMs are received within the time limit, everyone who has failed to send in a PM will be considered to have taken no action. In addition, those who failed to send in a PM will be warned by the mods or may risk further penalties.

3.6 - Changing a Night Action

PMs to the mod can be changed at any point before the new day is announced. A PM is considered to be changed only after the mod receives and has read the PM. The player bears the risk that the mod will post the morning scene after the player has sent in a new PM but before the mod has actually read it. In this case the action originally indicated will be performed.

3.7 - Abusing the Time Limit

The time limit for the night begins as soon as the previous day ended, regardless of when the mods posted the evening scene. However, this time limit is a maximum limit, and all players should send in PMs as soon as they feel comfortable doing so. Players (and mods) prefer shorter nights, as people are anxious to see who may have died and to begin voting again. If the mods feel that a player is abusing the time limit by unreasonably stalling, they may force the player to take no night action or take other appropriate action.

3.8 Preventing Night Actions

Except where expressly noted, no night actions prevent any other night actions sent in from taking effect.

3.9 - Morning Scene

The night phase ends when the mods post the morning scene. The mods will post the scene shortly after all night action PMs have been received. The scene will report any player deaths that occurred during the night, and will reveal the alts of all of the players killed. There are no hidden clues in the morning scenes. As soon as the scene is posted any players who have been killed at night will no longer be active players and can no longer post in the thread. The time limit for the new day will begin with the morning scene.

Section 4 - Endgame

The game will continue to alternate between day and night phases until the game ends. The game can end after either a day or night phase.

4.1 - Winning Conditions

The game ends once one faction has reached its winning conditions, which the mods will state in the game thread.

Mafia is a team game. Once one faction achieves its winning conditions, all members of that faction have won whether or not they are active players when the winning conditions are achieved.

4.2 - Ending Scene

The mods will post an ending scene and declare the game over shortly after one faction achieves its winning conditions. If for any reason it becomes impossible for either faction to achieve its winning conditions, the mods will declare the game a draw.

The game is only over when a mod posts the ending scene. Even if you know (or believe you know) the result of the game before then, you may not post in the thread unless you are an active player.

4.3 - Calling the Game Early

The mods reserve the right to end the game at any time before a faction achieves its winning conditions provided there are compelling reasons to do so. In general, the mods will end the game early as soon as one faction's victory becomes inevitable.

4.4 - Spoilers

When the game is over, the mods will reveal the alts and roles of everybody who played and also give everyone access to the spoiled spectator threads on the discussion board.

Roles

Note:

1) All listed roles (except FM, Roleless Innocent and, apparently, the Poet of Numbers) can belong to each faction.

2) Listed roles may be used or not.

3) Players may be informed that they have a role or not.

4) Some roles are not the usual standard roles. The mods thus advice you to read eaxh role description carefully. Some of these are deliberately worded ambiguous.

Plotting Archmaester (Faceless Man):

You're a bored and ruthless Archmaester which will proof to be a dangerous combination for your associates. Yes, you were responsible for the raven desaster, and you killed the two young Maesters as you don't like separating your garbage a bit.

If you have a partner, you'll have a forum on Soph's board to plot your schemes

Archmaester (Roleless Innocent):

You have no clue what happened, but you're willing to change that. Who manages to seperate the garbage should also be able to figure out this little complot. As you wear the chain of self-concidence, you give yourself two days to deliver that traotor(s) heads to the Imp. Or three?

The Uber-Nose (Finder)

To maximate your efforts to separtate your garbage you invented a potion that increases your sense to smell. Now you're even able to smell guilt, but it takes some time (and you have to smell the feet).

At night you might use your potion to investigate one player. You will get a "innocent/evil" result in the morning. Your number of potions might be limited.

The Joker (Sympathizer)

You know who let the ravens out, but you won't tell anybody because you have a weird sense of humour. That includes that you deliberately left out every opportunity to tell the traitor(s) that you're on their side. Ain't that funny?

The Depressive (Guard)

You have to carry a heavy burden, and you want to share it. At night you can talk to someone about what's gone wrong in your life and why. That player will listen to your complaints the whole night and is not able to make an action.

As you can be rather phlegmatic from time to time, your actions might be limited.

The Garbage Collector (Ninja)

You joyfully separate your garbage. The clean garbage you leave where it is, dirty garbage you eat, the squimy garbage you lay under your roommates pillow and the dangerous garbage you keep in your pocket to feel more dangerous. And damn, you will show them how dangerous you and your garbage are.

You may at each point during day and/or night use your deadly garbage to kill one person immediatly. Unfortunatly you also die when doing so, as the garbage makes no differences between culprit and victim. If you use your action during daytime, the day will end immediatly afterwards (there won't be a lynch) as the room has to be cleaned for a while by the remaining players which will take all their time.

The Twins (Lovers)

Actually, you're no twins. You're not even a Frey. But you share so much that you know everything about each other. You know that you can trust your twin. You are both members of the same faction.

If one of you should die in the course of the game(and ain't that likely?), the remaining twin will run amok the next day and will take revenge by killing someone before killing himself (as a consequence of a drunken vow you gave to each other). Good that you both know where they keep the dangerous garbage!

The Shy Warg (Soldier)

As the name says you're a warg but shy. You're able to warg into a player and control his mind, but only if you're alone with him. This player will do what you want and commit any crime. However, to get to this game winning condition all other players have to die first, unfortunatly.

The Arbor Addict (Cursed)

You early learned that a glass wine from time to time is a healthy thing. Clever as you are you came to the conclusion that drinking more wine means to stay more healthy. Now you enjoy your Arbor Gold each hour of the day - twice.

Unfortunatly you're running out of supply. Your stock will keep you, ehm, healthy until day 3 dawns. No wine means no health, and you know that something bad will happen to you. You may be handicapped by the lack of alcohol, you might even DIE.

But there's a solution to everything. You spotted some bottles of Arbor Gold in the belongings of player X. If you could only get your hands on them, you would stay healthy through the rest of the game. Unfortunatly that guy is very protective of his belongings, so you can only steal the bottles when he is dead.

The Poet of Numbers (Beacon of Innocence)

Usually you're overlooked by everyone, but if you start reciting maths poems, your innocent soul begins to shine through. Can someone be evil who is able to form poems like this? No,surely you must be innocent.

At any point in the game you may post a math poem to proof that you're innocent. Only you may do this. If someone should post a math poem who does not have this role, he will be modkilled immediatly.

-------------------------------------------------------------

As I was in a hurry I forgot to add some roles. You can find them below. As I made two distinctive setups depending on the number of players, these roles can be used in the game, but it's also possible that they won't be used at all.

The Stinker (Bulletproof)

You don't seperate your garbage, you involve it in your life. You even have a garbage link on your chain. Garbage decorates, but it also stinks. As do you. That's why no one will be able to kill you before he gets used to your odor.

You are able to deflect one night kill.

The Irritated Sleeper (Healer)

You like sleeping, you hate snorers. Therefore you created a magical ward that will keep all the snoring noise away from you. It also keeps everything away that tries to get to the snorer.

At night you may select a player that will be protected from any night kill.

The Admirer of Science (Martyr)

You know that you're only an average Maester, but this guy over there - he is really awesome. He seems to know everything and, isn't that wonderful, he plans to write a book about his theories. This man has to survive this inquisition, so that he will let the world know about the beauty of science.

Each night you can choose a player. If someone tries to kill this player, you will sacrifice your life instead. You will even make it through the first half of the next day before you die.

The Curious Scientist (Potent(ial) Vigilante)

You created that pill that will solve all the problems of mankind. Well, at least it will solve the problems of old men who still want to visit a brothel daily from time to time. You know it works, expect it doesn't. This blue pill has killed everyone that took it so far (okay, they didn't exactly take it, but you dropped it into their drink). However, you're confident that those little changes you recently made will eliminate those problems for all time. To test your invention, you can give it to another player. This player will either die at night or be very stiff the next day. As you have only one of your precious pills, this is a one-time action.

Looks like we have enough players (11/12) to play a solid game.

Unfortunatly I won't be able to start the game today, but tomorrow (Euro afternoon) the game will finally start. Everyone who wants to be spoilered can PM this very dragon over here.

And here's a little teaser scene as a small reward for those who signed up:

It was early in the morning when the Seneschal of the Citadel woke up. Someone was knocking impatiently against the heavy wooden door of his room. He yawned and stretched before slowly shuffling to the door.

"Maester Plessiez? Maester UnJon?" The Seneschall was surprised to see the two young maesters with those unusual names. By the Seven, he thought, most likely they want to discuss the house rules. Again. Sure, it was probably a good thing that the garbage was now seperated into the categories "clean garbage", "dirty garbage", "squirmy garbage" and "dangerous garbage" (although Maester Plessiez pointed out that the latter caregory was completely unneccessary as garbage was dangerous by default). Or probably it wasn't. What do they want now?

"What do you want now? I mean, can't this wait for, say, next week?"

"Seneschall, the ravens have gone," Maester UnJon said.

"The ravens? Our ravens? But what..."

"The messages also disappeared." Master Plessiez added dryly.

The Seneschal frowned. "Which messages got lost?" He asked silently.

The two young maester changed a glance before Maester UnJon cleared his throat. "Those who were supposed to be sent, uhm, later," he finally said.

"Those that everoyne waited anxiously for," Maester Plessiez added.

Now the Seneschall grasped it. No, he thought, that's a desaster. Everyone was waiting for those papers, for years, and now someone had sent all of them.

"All of them?" perhaps he misunderstood whte they'd been saying.

"All of them exept of one."

"Which one?"

"The dragon paper."

Now the Seneschal paled.

"Call the Archmaesters", he ordered. "All of them. They are responsible for the ravens."

The two Maesters didn't hesitate and quickly made their way.

"One of the Archmaesters must have done it. And men like these are also able to kill to get what they want," one of them said.

"One? I guess that two is the correct answer. And one who knows who sympathizes with them"

"Gah, that's too much. I say there's only the two of them."

"But what if there's an Archmaester who is able to guard...."

The two men pulled open a small door, intending to find their way to the library. There should be some decent books. One step, and they stopped, the blood draining from their faces. "You? No!" The word still hung in the air when death took them.

THE CITADEL

The men fell silent, as the dwarf entered the hall. Some of them could not avoid to show their disgust fort he kinslayer, but most looked nervously at Tyrion Lannister, Hand of Queen Daenerys, First of her Name. The maesters knew that he wasn’t here to make friends. Not after what had happened before. The Game of Thrones was over after Daenerys finally conquered the Iron Throne, but the irresistible dark threat from the North came nearer from day to day. Today that hord of monsters was besieging Winterfell, tomorrow they would savage the Southlands until all human living was erased from the Seven Kingdoms.

The Citadel had to face another threat, the anger of a hot-tempered queen. And here was the man who would deliver it to them. And in fact Daenerys had good reasons to be angry at the maesters, for the swore fealty to House Tyrell during the War of the Eighteen Kings. And to House Bolton. And to the Vale. And to the Ironmen. Also to the Martells. To House Piper. Even to Stannis Baratheon, the King-Beyond-the-Realm.

„I’m shocked that you somehow forgot to pledge your support to Asshai and the Summer Isles, too“, the Hand said. And after a small pause: “And to your rightful queen, of course.”

After a long moment of silence the Seneschal spoke, his voice trembling: “Ser, we... we... never wanted to anger the queen, may the Seven protect her. The Maesters are always neutral, and that hasn’t ever changed.”

“Hmmh, you’re probably right about this. Perhaps we falsely interpreted your dozen vows of fealty as breaking this good old tradition.”

“Well, Ser, as it is, you may have all the right to be suspicious of the Citadel’s loyality, but I swear you that we have nothing to do with those messages. Someone stole the ravens and...”

"Someone?” Tyrion interfered harshly. “Someone? Tell me who is able to steal those well guarded ravens right out of the midst of your always watchful society? Don’t get me wrong, I believe that not even your dragonoid order is that stupid. But it must have been one of you, I really hope so, because otherwise we are going to kill a lot of innocents in this game that will reveal the truth about this issue.”

The Seneschal looked puzzled. “I... I don’t understand. A game? And who will be killed? And how will that reveal the truth of it?” Then the eyeys of the Seneschall widened and he looked horrified. He asked: “Are you talking of using magic?”

Tyrion grinned and looked from maester to maester. “No, I can grant you that there is absolutely no magic behind all of this. Don’t worry now, because you will have a lot of time to figure this out during the next days. Would you now send your Archmaesters to me? I wish them to proof the wisdom of the Citadel.”

Everon should have gotten his role PM via Soph's board. If that's not the case, please tell us. Here is the roleless innocent PM:

Game Alt: House Nowhere

Login: House Someone

Password: codeX

Faction: Innocent

In the citdadel we give up out House names when we gain out maesters' chains - I notice none of us have quite got on board with this convention but I least I'm halfway there by being a representative of a house no-one has heard of (though House Ball has certainly taken this to extremes). House Florent, don't you think you're a bit too well heard of?
