Create your Westerosi house

The Isle of Faces

Recommended Posts

House Name: Mordant

House Sigil: A crimson cloak on white.

House Motto: True Colour Remains.

Unofficial Motto: Pink then Crimson then Gold.

Location: 2 leagues northwest of Red Lake.

House Weapon: Their Treasury.

Fealty: House Lannister.

-Back story-

House Mordant was a very small and undistinguished house that produced salt from 1 small mine on their lands. When the mine went dry, their Patriarch, Ser Rodrick Tassel, ordered them to "Stay at your post, don't bolt." Months later this resulted in the richest strike of Red dye pigment in Westeros at the time. Due to their wise administrative and marketing skills, they were able to secure for themselves the market on "Lannister Crimson." 1,657.829 years later they still have the market cornered. It has been rumored that some of their extended family will attempt to sew dissension between the Lannisters and other Houses just to cause skirmishes, especially border disputes. This gives them a constant market for their product. As of 274 AL, their known holdings and investments in trade equal roughly 1/3 of The Rocks coffers. This is kept quiet and most of House Mordant and it's roughly 2,000 smallfolk never wear fine clothing, it's tradition. Own the worst, sell the best to the best.

House Spikewell

House Sigil: A sea urchin in green on a blue background

House Words: We Remain In Place

Unofficial Words: "Drown them all!"

Location: North, Stony Shore

Castle: Saltstone

House Weapon: Morningstar Flail

Fealty: House Stark

Back Story:

The Spikewells are a transplanted clan of Ironborn, driven out of the Iron Isles some 500 years ago in a political struggle. The Spikewells took their men, ships, and wives North to find a new home and happened into a civil war. The Starks of Winterfell invited Lord Spikewell to destroy their enemies in exchange for lands -- they did, at tremendous cost, and were rewarded with a bleak stretch of windswept coastline and a primitive keep. The Spikewells have held on ever since, keeping largely to themselves, sending fierce raiders to marshall under the crimson banner whenever called and quietly worshipping the Drowned God. At the time of Balon Greyjoy's rebellion, some of the younger Spikewells sneaked out with their ships to join the Krakens, and ended up dead or on the Wall. The head of the House currently, Otho Spikewell, stayed well out of Balon's Rebellion and is not well pleased with the Ironborn raiding the Stony Shore. He has been building a few longships to join with the White Harbor fleet on a mission of revenge when the time is right.

Name: House Madoren (their spelling of "Magdalene" due to their problem with 'L's)

Sigil: a girl's silhouette in a cupcake skirt with a parasol, silver on royal blue base

Motto: Elegance Of A Maiden

Unofficial Motto: Give Me Good Lace Of Give me Death

Location: Somewhere in the Arryn domain

House Sword: valyrian steel, slightly curved, tilt and scabbard is silver/royal blue like the banner.

Fealty: House Arryn (they secretly support Dany, though)

Main Foe: An evil order of merchants who calls themselves "Milanoo" and have many cover identities.

The House is mostly known for its elegant warrior maidens. They might be into lace, frills and ruffled petticoats, but push their berserk button and you're in to meet The Parasol Of Death, or worse... their ancestral sword, Mana's Claw. And woe too thee if thou happen to confuse or even associate their fashion with an inappropriate book.

Great thread idea, so I can't help but throw in my two coppers:

Name: House Adler

Words: "Strengthened by Strife"

House Sigil: An Eagle, perched on a black miter, on a blue-grey field.

Location: The Cape of Eagles! No houses appear here, in the books.

Fealty: House Darry, up until the War of Usurper, where their Fealty most likely was given to the Tulleys.

Name: House Tormentoro (storm bull)

Sigil: Golden Bull, head lowered to charge on a Black Banner

Words: Strong Horns, Strong Back

Unofficial: Dont grab the bull by the horns.

Location: Between Stonehelm & Black Haven.

Castle: Redflag

Weapon: Valyrian Zweihander 'Harmsway' and Valyrian Great Hammer 'Hardplace'

Fealty: House Baratheon.

Backstory:

Originally a clan of bull tamers living on the borders of the Storm Lands and Dorne, the "bullmen" are known for their large size, weapons, mounts and tempers. The Bullmen of Redflag are led by a chief known as the 'Boss Taurus', and are a highly clan based society. Their dealing with both Houses Baratheon and Martell and other associated bannermen have led them to being slightly outcasted in both realms. However they won supreme trust to House Baratheon when they marched against the Houses of The Reach in Roberts Rebellion. The Bullmen made the best vanguard, Charging in with Zweihanders and Claymores, great hammers and great shields. The Bullmen sometimes elect themselves to become a 'Charger' in which they are painted red with the blood of a bull, given 2 swords and they ride into battle on a bull. The chargers are generally a berserker who startles the enemies van and dies gloriously in battle. Two weapons were given to House Tormentoro in honor of their assisstance: A Valyrian Zweihander honoring the chargers known as 'Harmsway' and a great hammer for the Bulls stompers known as 'Hardplace'.

EDIT: and Valyrian steel swords arent that bad, ide prefer just a regular valyrian sword to all these god damned gay "obsidian valyrian alloys" or "spellforged" shit.

House Name: Lugosi

House Sigil: Ivory tooth with one drop of red on black background.

House Motto: "Good Eeeevnink."

Unofficial Motto: " *a slurping noise* "

Location: Catacombs under all major cities in Westeros.

House Weapon: Valyrian Steel Dentures called "Grampa Munsters Kiss"

-Back story-

After the last Long Night this house appeared after the sun had set at all the major tournaments. They numbered 3 total and said little. Over the years they came to be known as the "Knight Crew" to their acquaintances and could always be identified by their dapper widows peak. They claimed no lands and it is not known where their house seat is located. People started to wonder about this house until one of the kings at the time was approached by their Patriarch at the time, a Lord Oldman, who claimed he had a deal for the king. It is not known what the discussions entailed but when the population density of maidens started to skyrocket while the population of beggars and vagrants plummeted, people stopped asking questions.

Ah, I wrote this a few days ago while waiting for my account to be verified, so this is effectively my first post (although I've lurked for a while); beware of the length.

House Name: House Redsail

House Sigil: A black anchor carried by two sparrows on red.

House Motto: "Atop the Tide"

Location: North-western coast of the Riverlands

Fealty: House Tully (formerly, House Greyjoy)

Ancestral Weapon: More of a tool than a weapon, "Dragon Tide", as it is called, is a black steel boarding axe that resembles a hatchet or a tomahawk. Too small to be used as the primary weapon of defense, Dragon Tide is mostly used as a tool while at sea and as a symbol carried by leader of the Redsail fleet. Said to have been forged in a "tide of dragon's fire" (hence its name) by Aegon the Conquerer's personal smiths and given to Dwyer Redsail, a subordinate of Harren the Black, after the War of Conquest as a reward for being one of the first under Harren to declare Aegon the true King of the Seven Kingdoms, the axe's true originals have been washed away with time. Commonly said to give off the appearance of "looking directly into the darkest, deepest depths of the sea", the axe's mystique has become a cornerstone of the lore and heritage of the Redsails.

Back Story: The Redsails date back to the time of Harren Hoare's reign as King of the Iron Islands and the Riverlands. Dwyer Redsail was one of the many men subordinate to Harren, being in charge of a portion of Harren's naval fleet located near the Iron Islands and was a loyal follower of his for the many years leading up to Aegon's conquest. During Aegon Targaryen's conquest of Westeros, Dwyer Redsail led one of the first forces to be engage and subsequently be defeated during the the former's attack on the Iron Islands. Despite Dwyer Redsail's prowess as a highly skilled seafarer and keen naval strategist, he was quickly defeated and became one of the first to submit and declare Aegon I as the King even before the famous siege of Harrenhal. It is said that following the War of Conquest, Aegon gifted Dwyer with the famed boarding axe Dragon Tide as a sign of respect for his skills and for being one of the first to swear fealty to him. The Redsails remained a prominent, albeit small, seafaring and raiding house of the Iron Islands, their land located on the northeast end of the island Orkmont, up until the Greyjoy Rebellion.

During the Greyjoy Rebellion, Conlan Redsail, the seahardened and battlehungry Lord of House Redsail, happily assisted in the attack on the Lannister fleet at Lannisport harbour under the leadership of Victarion and Euron Greyjoy, the brothers of his overlord, Balon Greyjoy. As the Rebellion began to fail, Lord Conlan's eldest son and heir, the 17-year-old Quinlan Redsail, who had been dissatisfied with the Rebellion from the beginning, believing it to be foolhardy and futile, hatched a plan with his uncle (and Lord Conlan's younger brother) Lachlan Redsail, to covertly meet with Hoster, Lord of House Tully of the Riverlands to switch sides. During what was supposed to be a second, smaller scale attack on Seagard commanded by Lachlan Redsail (Lord Conlin was supposed to command the attack, but had miraculously fallen ill), the rebel Redsails conspired to supply information to Lord Tully before moving to intercept ships they knew were to be attacking a harbour in the Westerlands.

Being outed as turncoats during their successful sinking of the planned Ironborn attack on the Westerlands, the renegade Redsails openly declared their allegiance to King Robert Baratheon and continued to lend their support to the war effort in both land and sea battles. After the war ended, the Redsails (now completely under the joint leadership of young Quinlan Redsail and his uncle Lachlan after the death of Lord Conlan due to illness) were expelled from their keep and land on the Iron Islands by Balon Greyjoy - their name became synonymous with that of turncoats amongst the Ironmen. Having no place to go, they turned to the Lannisters, hoping the assistance they gave intercepting the attacks on the Westerlands would be rewarded fairly. Harshly, however, Lord Tywin Lannister simply paid them gold and refused to offer them any land - reasoning that because they took part in the previous sacking of the Lannister fleet at Lannisport, they were unwelcome in the Westerlands.

Seeing this as an opportunity, Lord Hoster of House Tully had Quinlan and Lachlan knighted and offered them a small parcel of land on the western coast bordering the North in a token of thanks and in the agreement that House Redsail's fleet would serve as a defense against future attacks from the Iron Islands, The Lannisters to the south and perhaps even the Starks of the North if need be. House Redsail is now ruled from a keep known as the Sea Sparrow Spire in the small, but growing new port town of Deep Anchor. The House is headed by Lord Quinlan Redsail with his uncle Lachlan serving as his top advisor and his younger brother Kendel as one of the Redsail fleet Captains.

Key Members: Dwyer Redsail - The founder of House Redsail and a loyal follower of Harren the Black leading up to Aegon's conquest of the Seven Kingdoms. Known for his excellent abilities as a maritime commander, a skill that has survived throughout his lineage, he eventually became one of the first commanders to pledge their fealty to Aegon.

Lord Conlan Redsail - Battle-hardened and war-hawkish Lord of House Redsail in the years prior and during the Greyjoy Rebellion, Conlan was a staunch supporter of Balon Greyjoy and a man deeply submersed in the Ironborn culture of raiding. He held little respect for anyone born outside of the Iron Islands.

Lord Quinlan Redsail - Current Lord of House Redsail and son of Conlan, Quinlan was the intelligent and ambitious young man that orchestrated the plan to rebel against the Rebellion. Known as an excellent tactician and lacking the more brutal aspects of most Ironborn, Lord Quinlan is a well-liked and well-respected (outside of the Iron Islands) leader. Known by the nicknames "Knight of the Tide" by the people of the Riverlands and "Quinlan the Constant" mockingly by the more traditional Ironmen, he leads his small, but powerful navy from Sea Sparrow Spire in Deep Anchor.

Ser Lachlan Redsail - Younger brother of previous Lord of House Redsail, Conlan, Lachlan is a powerfully built and stone-faced man. While a mostly composed and rational thinker, Lachlan does display the anger of an Ironman from time to time, but is nonetheless a respected man, good warrior and great sailor. He is known jokingly throughout the Seven Kingdoms as "Lachlan the Red-faced", much to his chagrin, a reference to his tendency to drink too much during celebrations, festivals and tournaments.

Ser Kendel Redsail - Younger brother and heir apparent of House Redsail (as Quinlan currently has no children), Kendel is an excitable young fleet captain that enjoys reveling in the glory of battle. Despite his love of battle, Kendel is not a raider by heart, having been raised by his older brother and uncle to fit the more rational lifestyle of the men of Riverrun.

House Name: House Ulster

Founder: Osgood Ulster

House Words: "Tread Elsewhere"

Sigil: A viridian kingfisher on a field of white with a red trim

Castle: Sunderholm, an island fortress

Ship: Stormshear

Sword: A Valyrian Steel claymore called The Old Warden

Location: In the Sea of Dorne, on an island south of the Rainwood

Sworn to: House Baratheon

Descended from the First Men, House Ulster successfully resisted conquest by the Andals, managing to keep many of their sacred customs intact. The Old Gods are honored on Sunderholm, but worship of the Seven found its way unto the isle and became the dominant religion. Though resolute when defending their island, the Ulsters are open to outside cultural influences from both Dorne and the Stormlands. They have a proud naval tradition, relying on fishing and maritime trade for sustenance.

...This is my favourite house so far...

You've got a way with names -- props to you.
