Name: House Aurand

Sigil: A black walrus with twin spears above it.

Offical Motto: Cold preserves.

Location: Our lands extend from the Stony Shore to the shore of Blazewater Bay. Our castle is called Cutthroat's End.

House Weapon: A Valyrian steel bastard sword named Judgment, with a white ivory pommel made from walrus tusk, and an eye shaped saphire for a pommel stone.

We date back to around 1,500 years before the conquest, when a sworn shield of Lord Toregg Dustin,Ser Mortimer Aurand, was granted large swathes of land around the Blazewater Bay. The founder was granted the lands for saving Lord Toregg from a camp of bandits that had kidnapped him in order to gain a hefty ransom, the spot where the bandits were destroyed, on a steep cliff overlooking Blazewater Bay, was were the castle of House Aurand was built. We have had numerous skirmishes and battles with the Ironborn, particularly houses Farwynd and Blacktyde. At the onset of the WO5K, house Aurand was among the first houses to back independace for the north. The Aurands also have a longstanding hatred of house Bolton, for Ramsay Bolton is alleged to have raped the only daughter of Lord Jethro, Beatrix.

Current Members: Lord Jethro Aurand, called the Black Walrus, currently a hostage of the Freys. (Ulric Aurand, slain at The Whispering Wood), Conall Aurand, heir of Cutthroat's End. Beatrix Aurand, became a Silent Sister after Ramsay Bolton raped her.

I've actually made up about 8 houses [though 4 of them are incomplete] Tell me what you all think.

#1

House Grey

Culture: Northmen

Religion: Old Gods

Words: "We remember"

Sigil: A black raven with a red rose in its beak on a grey field

Location: On the borders of the Lands of Always Winter

Status: Exiled

Backstory: House Grey is an ancient Northern house descended from the First Men and were among the the proudest and fiercest Stark supporters. However, during Robert's Rebellion, when their lord, Thaddeus Grey, demanded the right to lead the vanguard of the Northern army and was refused, the Greys, for the first time, rose in rebellion against the Starks, refusing to send any of its men untill a true King in the North returned. When the war was over Ned Stark marched back north and drove them from their keep. In light of their family's historical loyalty they were given were exiled to a place of their choosing. The Greys, still loyal to the North and the memory of the ancient Stark kings took themselves into exile beyond the wall, where they have for over a decade held the Others relatively at bay. Upon getting news of Robb Stark's crowning, the Greys took it upon themselves to return to the service of the North at the risk of death, marching south to the Riverlands. By the time they reach Winterfell however the Red Wedding has already occured. Roose Bolton demands their fealty, promsing them their former position and lands. The Greys furiously refuse, vowing to exact justice upon all the families involved in the death of the Young Wolf and his men. Marching south with 7000 men under the command of their young lord of 18, Mar Grey, they intend to retake Riverrun and destroy the Twins as well as Casterly Rock. In this endevor they are assisted by 7 other houses [all of which I made up] who refuse to bend the knee and desire revenge for their personal losses at the Red Wedding. These other houses are:

House Grym

Culture: Northmen

Religion: Old Gods

Words: "We keep our word"

Sigil: A hanged man on a black field

Can Field around 3000 Men, Fierce stark loyalists known for their bluntness, humorlessness, loyalty, seriousness, and toughness

House Rainwood

Culture: Riverlands

Religion: The Seven

Words: "To kingdom come"

Sigil: A white tree on a green field

Can field around 2000 Men. Among the first to declare for King Robb Stark and only bend the knee following the Red Wedding nominally

House Stormbane

Religion: The Seven

Words: "As loud as thunder"

Sigil: A gold thunderbolt upon a silver field

Can field around 1500 Men, Among the families whose lands were first attacked by the Lannisters at the start of the War of the Five Kings

The rest of these I'm still working on:

A house whose sigil is a blazing orange comet on a blue field, “Every night must fade” Has 400 Men

A house whose sigil is a steel heart with wings and whose words are “All’s fair in love and war” Has 600 Men

A house whose sigil is a jester and whose words are “Every man has a secret, what’s yours” Has 100 Men

House Drake-Riverlands, Has 400 Men

A Song of Ice and Fire Roleplaying has a great guide to creating a Westerosi house. This is something I worked out a while ago. To create history of your house you role the dice and get those historical events that I put in the brackets. It also influences your houses resources. That makes old houses more prone to being poor in the end. Household is also determined by the resources.

I really paid a great deal of attention to the timeline :)

Ardent of Erryrtor

in the Black Forrest, the western North

http://img641.images...errirtormap.png

„We Rise the Dawn“

ca. 8000bal

He was a great commander and a hero during the War of the Dawn and he had a fiery bird which was his faitfull companion. In the aftermath in the time of rebuilding Brandon the Builder helped his children to form their own house to preserve the memory of Erryr.

(Infrastructure & Glory)

the Fiery Benjen Ardent

ca. 6000bal

Lord Benjen Ardent gave his life in valiant defense of the Children of the Forest and a village south of the Neck during the Andal Invasion. He became very well known because of the great numbers of Andals who fell by his great sword Fire. The sword was lost and Benjen's wife threw herself from the Eagle's Tower at Erryrtor leaving their three year old son to his brother;

(Favor)

the Kind & the Thunder

ca. 700bal

Lord Jon the Kind One discovered that his eldest son and heir was in fact a bastard child of his steward. He cut the heads of both the steward and his wife, sent his two sons to the Night's Watch and then married a girl from one of the mountain clans;

Jon's son Conan the Thunder had proven himself worthy of his ancestor despite his mother's low birth by showing great military prowes and cunning in the battles with Boltons. He became well known in the North;

(Scandal & Glory)

Waves & Flames

ca. 100 bal

The Iron Men ravage the lands of Ardents and torch down Erryrtor, all but the Eagle's Tower. In what remains of the town, they establish a military base. Now the only surviving heir to Erryrtor is a young man named Duer who is a direct descendant of the Fiery Benjen Ardent and a close friend to Walton Stark, heir to Winterfell who would later be known as the Moon King. The two of them where on a journey to old Valyria where they got the valyrian steel swords for their houses calling them Fire and Ice. When they came back, they where given permission by the king to rally the mountain clans and retrieve the lands from the Iron Men wich they do manage to do. Duer becomes the lord of Erryrtor and has many good years of rule.

Name: House Buffalo

Sigil: A white buffalo with the back ground colors of Spanish Blue and white stripes.

Motto: Don’t run, you’ll just die tired.

Unofficial Motto: Return with honor.

House Sword: Tatanka-Obsidian tipped sword mended with the strongest elements of the seven kingdoms; crafted similar to katana of the Samurai. From the mixture of the elements, the sword’s inner core never sets. When in battle, the vibration on the sword causes the elements to synergize resulting in the sword taking on the look of any surrounding light. It also emanates immense heat. The weapon has been known to cauterize a victim’s skin shut upon impalement, leaving a deadly wound underneath. Naturally, the sword has a black opaque look and has often has been confused with "Dawn" (the sword of the morning) when used in sunlit battle.

Descendants of the Rhoynar invasion, the Buffalo People were first slaves on the ships that came and were skilled with sword and spear. They were forced to bend knee to Nymeria's army. The Buffalo People never donned armor and thus weren't equipped to quell Nymeria's attacks. As an agreement of fealty, Nymeria pledged that she would stop the killings of all Buffalo in the distant land of Tempe (located far south of the Summer Seas) only if the tribal leader, Brother Sims (Steffon Sims) would give his son (Stefen Sims) to her as a ward. She knew that his son was skilled in battle. With armor and proper military training, Nymeria would rule over one of the greatest warriors ever.

There were several exotic animals on board the 10,000 ships, one of them being the buffalo. This animal is held sacred by the Buffalo people. They believe that, if the buffalo die off, then the Buffalo People will die off as well. When Nymeria conquered Dorne, the chieftain son Stefen Sims, served as one of her generals. He conquered many a foe in battle. Due to his loyalty and accomplishments in war, he was rewarded Blackmont. For all intents and purposes, the Blackmont is so named because Stefen and his people are of blackened skin.

So the buffalo (animals not the people) could flourish on the neighboring territories, the Buffalo People remained close allies to Dorne. They fought with them in battles against the Targaryens prior to Dorne Marrying into the realm. Stefen Sims was raised to Lord where he became quite fond of the Tyrells of Highgarden, He became privy to their courteous speech and manners. More so, he grew fond of the Lord Steffon Beratheon. As variations of Steffon, Stefen, Stefan, and Stephon were great family names for the Sims. Further down the line, the current lord Stefan Sims has been a long-time friend of Robert Baratheon. When the rebellion broke out, Lord Sims decided to pledge allegiance to Robert Beratheon, breaking the age-long fealty to Dorne

Location:Blackmont

Sworn To: Stannis beratheon, The late Rob Stark( king in the North!)

House Name: House Bloodsinger

Sigil: A Red-blood fox running on a black field.

(This is crap and very basic but I had MS Paint and some free time to kill)

a>]

Motto: Blood for Blood

Unofficial Motto: A Fox Never Forgets Blood, Salt and Steel

Location: An Island in the Bay of Seals

House Sword: Shade, Black Longsword

Castle: The Misty Fortress

Hahaha, okay - this is really lame and unimaginative I know - it sounds like something from a children's fantasy novel, but oh well!

Descended from the first men, this house has been through many past battles, never forgetting and never forgiving any house that has done them harm in the past. They are a mysterious house almost entirely forgotten who reside on their lone island, where the mists and fog hide their castle. One a rich and noble house, now the Castle is almost a ruin. No one knows if the island is still inhabited, or if the house still exists. They take their sigil from an old and possibly mythical hero called the 'The Great Fox' who stole into a castle by night, using his cunning, to rescue a young woman from an evil curse.

Unofficial Motto: "United we are strongest."

Ship: 'Righteous Judgement'

As such, the only warriors on the Island come from the White Tower itself, some 500 extremely fierce fighters, making them excellent troops for a vanguard.

Name: House Stormcrown

Sigil: A blue dragon with golden eyes amidst a dark forest.

Motto: Through Fire Comes Darkness, and Through Darkness Comes Light

Unofficial Motto: The end draws near.

Location: A great castle named Winterfyre. It's west of Torrhen's Square, north of the Rills, east of Stony Shore, and southwest of the Wolfswood, amongst mountains and at the place where the rivers split.

House Weapon(s): The first is a Valyrian Steel double-sided sword named Iceflame, originally a Valyrian Steel sword named Firestorm that was reforged and infused with weirwood. It's a powerful weapon with two blades on it, both Valyrian Steel and infused with obsidian (imagine Darth Maul's lightsaber, only a sword). The second is a bow made from weirwood and dragonglass (obsidian) named Nightshot.

Sworn To: House Stormcrown was formerly sworn to House Stark, but later chose to withdraw its support and govern itself. However, it's common knowledge and the people of Winterfyre that House Stormcrown has not forsaken House Stark and will often lend aid and join their banners with House Stark's, and relationships remain good.

Background:

Prior to the Targaryens coming to Westeros, a Valyrian house, Stormcrown, came to Westeros in search for treasure and new lands, ignorant of the dangers. They were met hostilely, but managed to secure an alliance with a King in the North and was granted a small piece of land along a river. They constructed a castle there, using Valyrian building techniques, named Winterfyre, and then began exploring, hoping to one day return to Valyria with more information on Westeros. They began exploring north, and one of their lords that was up north beyond the Wall met the Children of the Forest. Convinced of the Old God's power, he converted and swore his life to the Old Gods, the gods of the north. He reforged their old family sword, called Firestorm, and created it partially out of weirwood, renaming it Iceflame, after the connection with both the Old Gods and Valyria. He also created a bow out of it and named it Nightshot. Years of marrying with other Houses and not incest like Valyrians traditionally practice eventually caused the people of House Stormcrown to begin to lose their Valyrian looks, with only a few Valyrian resembling members every century. This was caused by their conversion to the Old Gods causing them to begin to break Valyrian culture and move to a more northern culture.

They arrived after the Andal invasion, but did not adopt the Andal culture, sticking with the Old Gods.

Their words, Through Fire Comes Darkness, and Through Darkness Comes Light, is a phrase they used, as despite their conversion to the Old Gods, fire still remained a large part of their culture. Through Fire Comes Darkness means that there would be fights among them, wars they would need to fight in, and uses of fire for war that comes with their heritage. They knew that fire created shadows - darkness - and used it as a metaphor for how they would fight and kill mercilessly over time. The other part, Through Darkness Comes Light, has several different meanings. It gives them hope, as they can always hope for the light to come at the end of a bleak situation, and in dark times they know that they can prevail. It also means that the darkness mentioned earlier can be counteracted, and mercy came come upon their enemies.

Their unofficial motto, "The end draws near.", is often used in war, and it's both a dangerous threat to their enemies and a great hope for their own men. It means that their enemies will be crushed, and also means that soon the battles will be done, and life will be peaceful once again. It's rarely used outside of war, and when it does, it's used in a bleak way.

Over time, after they became their own self-governed house, they fielded a large military and used it to protect their lands. They prepared for winter by storing supplies, and began expanding their own castle, eventually becoming a mini-city, similar to Winterfell. They began trading their surplus food with others and discovered an obsidian mine beneath Winterfyre, and has also traded obsidian with other houses too. This allowed them to become rich, not as rich as some of the greater houses, but enough to field a large military and call banners.

I couldnt come up with a good name so I chose my own last name. And the rest of it I pretty much based on the asoiaf rpg much like Lame Wolf above.

Name: House Crowley

Sigil: A silver salient gryphon facing left on a crimson background. Or just a silver gryphon head on crimson in some cases.

Motto: Glory is fleeting, family is forever.

Seat: Castle of Rogue Hill

Location: Riverlands, South of Oldstones ruins. Hills between Red Fork and Blue Fork.

Religion: Faith of the Seven

Blood: Andal

Weapon: Valyrian steel longsword (don't judge, every house wants at least one :D) with a pure silver gryphon head as the pommel , and house words engraved on the fuller of the blade. Named Lionsbane, as its first kill was a lion.

Sworn to: House Tully

Background: 7 historical events. This took a while to get together.

1:(Treachery-founding) Marten Crowley, a landed knight sworn to house Dwight of Rogue Hill, was quite ambitious and desired to establish a powerful house for his family. Upon Aegons landing, and beginning of the war of conquest, Marten was one of the first to side with Aegon. Being one of the most trusted Dwights bannermen, he was to lead majority of houses forces. However Marten managed to coerce the troops and make them actually believe they were to fight alongside Aegon not against him as Dwights originally intended. While fighting in the east, Marten sent a small force to the Rogue Hill to kill the Dwights and take the castle, while its left defenseless. He was allowed to keep the castle for his family, and was granted a Valyrian sword by Aegon for his service.

2:(Scandal) Marten and his sister are accused of incest. Starts a nasty rumor across Riverlands.

3:(madness) Martens son Vaerys becoms the lord of the house after fathers death. He proves to be a poor ruler and soon becomes mad (confirming the rumors of incest). He marries to women whom he then kills, executes thieves and other small time criminals, sends out troops without banners to raid other house lands.

4:(glory) Vaerys' latest wife, also the one to survive longest and mother to his only heir- Agathe Terrick, poisons her husband after finding out of his plan to burn himself alive along his family. Years later their son- Aedan becomes a worthy lord and brings years of good fortune and prosperity for their holdings.

5:(invasion) Rogue Hill is attacked by House Blanetree and Aedan is killed at hisold age along with nearly every other Crowley, except for his second son and daughter -Eadwin and Cera. They both escape to Vale.

6:(favor) Eadwin gains trust of house Belmore and by wedding his sister Cera to heir of Belmont acquires a small force, enough to take Rogue Hill back. He manages to do that and takes Blanetree heir as a ward.

7:(decline) Years later Eadwins eldest- Alester goes missing, and Eadwin is consumed by grief to the point where he would dismiss his second son- Cassel as an heir, and even ignore the request for aid in Roberts rebellion. However his daughter Elise proposes that she would marry Patrek Mallister whom she seduces, therefore gaining Mallisters support.

Currently (five years before the first book), Lord Eadwin is on a death bed while Elise acts as a lord regent of the house along her husband Patrek, who moves to Rogue Hill along his wife as he loves her greatly. Cassel is wasting his life drinking and visiting brothels, because of his tough relationship with father. Some rumors say that Alester was captured by slavers and sold to one of the red temples in Lys, where he turned to worship R'hllor

(Yeah I know i kind of stole the Alester/red priest idea from the GoT game, but I just like that storyarch. :P)
