[ADWD SPOILERS] Jaime

Xray the Enforcer

Recommended Posts

Folks, I’d have preferred you hadn’t told me how many Jaime chapters there are left in the book. The rules for these threads are quite clear, are they not?

And, yes, Brienne lives, as we’ve argued for many years. Jaimes’s as good as dead. To me surprise, Brienne seems to not turn this into a suicide mission; I had expected both of them to die in this chapter.

Some good tree zombie porn, with a 1000 year old weirwood covered in ravens.

What does this mean: (Jaime:) “Understand this as well: I am not Ryman Frey.”

I don't think Jaime is going to die at Breine's hand, or funnily enough at UnCat's hands either, but we'll see.

With "I'm not Ryman Frey" Jaime meant that his promise to behead Hoster if his father showed any sign of treason was not a bluff, unlike Ryman who threatened to hang Edmure every day but never did.

Ah, that Frey. Thanks, Sun.

I really doubt Brienne would lure Jamie into coming alone then stab him in the back - it's totally out of character. What I think could happen:

Brienne sees unCat for what she is (a deranged abomination). She knows she has to cry 'sword' or die, so she does, planning to find Jamie and together they can rescue Podrick and Ser Hunt (if he's not dead - can't remember). Her story about finding Sansa might be just a pretext, since his men are around him and yapping about Catelyn Tully come back from the dead will do no good as no one will believe her.

I would be really disappointed if Brienne really kills Jamie, as many in this thread seem to think.

Brienne can't betray Jaime. Betrayal goes completely against everything we know about her character. She almost died just because she thought it wasn't fair to kill him.

She must have some plan... probably she will be jaime's champion in unCat's trial.

but i agree that things are not looking good for Jaime (and Brienne).

I think I remember now why the entire Riverlands story bored me so much in AFFC: none of the characters were really interested in anything that they were doing. Brienne was hunting without much hope for someone she's never going to find, Jaime was trying to finish a war that's already over against people who know it's over and are just going through the motions, and outlaws are sporadically fighting with no clear objective in mind at all.

I do like Jaime, but in so many of his recent chapters in AFFC and now ADWD he seems tired, bored, and can't wait for it all to be over. I know exactly how he feels.

Yeah, to me this is the most feasible possibility. As the others have said, I really can't imagine Brienne turning on Jaime. She's honor-bound and probably crushing on him, haha. And are we sure she means Sansa? When Brienne says "yes" to Jaime's "did you find her", my first thought was that Brienne meant UnCat, since we know it can't be Sansa or Arya.

Also, two questions: how does saying "sword" save her again..? I don't recall AFFC very well. I also thought Pod was confirmed dead?

P.S.

Crackpot theory: Brienne is actually dead, and Jaime doesn't notice in his surprise. UnBrienne!

Crackpot theory: Brienne died, and Cat passed on R'hllor's gift to her. Brienne of Tarth now leads the BwB.

Heh I had thought of that as well. After all Jaime thought she looked like she aged 10 years!

Probably not though.

BOOM! I Totally predicted that Brienne would show up first in Jaime or some other PoV, rather than her own. I hopehopehope this means she doesn't have anymore PoVs herself for the rest of the series... Don't get me wrong, I love Brienne, but as a non-PoV character. Some of my faves are non-PoVs (e.g. I am certain I would haaaate Stannis if I had to be inside his skull).

So what will happen here... Um I guess (?) that they are going back to Lady Stoneheart. There, I have no idea. I hope they both somehow manage to survive but I wouldn't mind a little Brienne-kills-Jaime melodrama either. I don't want Brienne to die though. :(

Brienne!

And she says she found the girl.

Jaime 2 should be interesting!

My first impression is that Brienne has not "found the girl". This is a trick in order for Brienne to deliver Jaime Lannister to Catelyn Stark. This is nothing more than a trap. Jaime's life is in jeopardy.

Maybe...but that is what we are supposed to think. In this series I am starting to really distrust whatever I am set up to think.

what was the choice? i forgot...

Lady Catelyn's fingers dug deep into her throat, and the words came rattling out, chocked and broken, a stream as cold as ice. The northman said, "She says that you must choose. Take the sword and slay the Kingslayer, or be hanged for a betrayer. The sword or the noose, she says. Choose, she says. Choose"
