Characters who frighten you

So I've read up to Chapter 25 of ASoS now and after reading the latest Davos chapter, I had to put this up.

Who in the books (so far) frighten you? Who would you sincerely not to want to meet in a dark alley (or a sunlit boulevard for that matter)? There's precious few nice people in the books granted, but who actually puts so much fear in you that you get stomach cramps?

For me, the list is topped by Melisandre. She terrifies me. It's not the scary shadow magic stuff she does. It's her self-righteous rhetoric. She's so certain of her righteousness, so certain that she is right and all who oppose her wrong. Her black and white world-view and her eloquence in speaking for it frightens the beejeezus out of me. Religious fanatics frothing at the mouth may be creepy, but the calm confident fanatic is far more terrifying, IMO.

Ser Gregor Clegane comes a close second. I don't think I have to say why.

The third guy on the list ins Kraznys (or something), the slaver at Astapor. Casual cruelty is nothing new in ASoIaF, but his made me gag, specially the bit about the bear and the little boys. Dear God.

Gregor Clegane hands down has always frightened the piss out of me. He's really got no humanity to him whatsoever - no emotions(rage aside),no conscience, no SOUL. He's the kind of character that if you met in real life would have you instantly looking for somewhere else to be after looking into his eyes and seeing nothing staring back.

Lord Tywin is pretty scary too. It's not so much being afraid of him savaging you or cutting your throat in your sleep. It's the fact that if you cross the guy he'll make you wish you hadn't been born. I never got over my incredulity over what he did to Tyrion for marrying a commoner. There were so many less crueler ways he could have dealt with it. Oh, and lets not forget he has no qualms about butchering children either.

And if I have to explain why Lysa Arryn terrifies me you haven't been paying attention at all. 0_o

Gregor Clegane for all the reasons mentioned above. Tywin confessed to Tyrion that he had only asked Gregor to deal with Elia, and that Gregor murdered the kids and raped and killed Elia by a way of his own choosing. One has to be pretty sick and dead inside to kill a toddler by smashing his head and then raping his mother with the hands still bloodied. Unngh!

Tywin comes a close second because he is heartless and brutal. He has no place in his heart for love and emotions, and it clearly shows in his attitude.

Varys and Littlefinger come in third place, mostly because I am wary of people who smile too much, as much as I ma wary of people who don't. These two have their own agendas and in the end, serve no one but themselves. I know such people in real life, people who smile and smile and then stab you in the back.
