Gandalf Lundgren
Spoilers abound. Wtf Freys? Seriously? Cut down Catelyn AND Robb? Are the Starks really this doomed?Winter has surely come. I stopped for the evening after Sandor clearly bludgeoned Arya. I don't believe he would have killed her. The Frey wedding is making me wonder if I want to continue reading this series. I'm really distraught about the Starks as they WERE my fave house. Please post no further events that happened after this one. Only discuss this one and previous for my and others courtesy. Ser_Fiddlesticks
The Stark's really can't catch a break. A lot of it kicked off as Cat imprisoned Tyrion back in AGoT and the rather naïve way Eddard handled his duties as The Hand and Robert's death, but boy have they paid for their mistakes. Robb seemed like he could put them back on the map, but alas... Hopefully GRRM goes a bit easier on them in the future.
Mattyp
If you look around the ASOS still reading section you'll see many of us have had a similar reaction. For what it's worth it's definitely worth finishing ASOS as so much happens that the events of the Red Wedding soon become a distant (but still very painful!) memory. Gandalf Lundgren
I'm sorry if I made a duplicate thread. But spoilers are in the thread titles too I fear lol. It's just frustrating because it feels like there are no heroes in these books. He builds them close to heroism, then cruely cuts them down. Needles Fury
I thought I couldn't feel worse than I did after NED was beheaded but this took my breath away...I seriously felt sick to my stomach!! But I do respect GRRM for not being afraid to Kill off our favorite characters to better to the story an move it forward!! It keeps you invested cuz you never know which way he will go yet I find myself eager to know....no matter how heart breaking it is!!! But you def will want to continue reading cuz there's some pretty interesting events ahead an you will not want to miss them!!
Slychd
That was a pretty low point in the books, but I promise there are some great reveals ahead and several twists also.

That means 5/6 "Stark" children endure. The chapter made me upset too. It was horrifying. But I'd recommend that you keep reading. The Starks aren't wiped out, and the journeys of the other characters remain important.

richardya
Catelyn was a surprise, I knew Rob's end was coming.
Ser Malthred Storm
The part that really helped make this scene disturbing for me was when Catelyn killed the mentally challenged son. Also, as already stated, there are still 5-Starks left--(At least where I am).Sadly, this was spoiled for me when it was casually mentioned in a "Still Reading" section---WHICH APPEARS TO HAPPEN TOO OFTEN. Also, thank you for not putting any spoilers in the title like most everyone else.

SiderealDay
In the end, what was to become of Robb? He betrayed the Freys. He pretty much had to die if the Freys wanted to maintain honor. Of course, they did it in the most disturbing and sly way possible. Better to openly declare war: Robb going back on the marriage deal is more than enough of a casus belli.Either way, he had to die. It is important for Starks to die when they go against their impossible ideals of honor. Have you noticed that it was when Eddard confessed to crimes he didn't commit, he was executed? charlestrum
I think Jaime losing his sword hand is more tragic , the Kingslayer!
Lions-and-Roses
House Stark will remain broken and lost until the last book, if you ask me what I think. Every single other child is 'lost' or presumed dead. Fun fun fun.
atomzd
just got to the same part as the OP. tough to take. i noticed that reviews go from great to not so great after the first 3 books. are the last 2 (currently) good enough to continue reading? Errant Bard
yes. AFFC is better than any of the other in the series, in fact.
Princess of the Night
Just finished the chapter. I knew this was going to happen. From the moment Robb returned with that girl as his queen. it annoys me that they are so honorable, and loyal and stuff.. That kind of people don't go trough life well. He just was too much like his father. I really cannot believe that they did not even think about wearing the mail underneath their clothes. He even let his army get drunk. I mean, come on if guy serves awful food, and enough alcohol for whole Westeros to drink, wouldn't that seem a bit odd? They just worried too much about not upsetting that old idiot, and did not thought of their own safety.

I was surprised for Catelyn not to think of such things though.

You may as well finish of the series for your own piece of mind. Personally, I have become completely drawn into the world. I never want to leave!
