Warging Grey Wind

One simple question, coming from two simple words: when Robb is stabbed and dies, and says his last two words "Grey Wind" to his mother, I think he's clearly warging into his wolf. So we are told that Grey Wind is also killed at the wedding, so Robb is really dead. But... is Grey Wind dead for sure (maybe the right question should be if is anybody dead for sure...)? So is Robb?

Thanks for the post...

I’m reading AFFC and re-reading ASOS, and at some point (during AFFC) I think that Bran, while warging Summer, senses “a pack of five” direwolves, referred as his brothers... So if Grey Wind is dead, that would be a four wolves pack (counting that Lady is dead as well).

Robb warged forever into Grey Wind and taking revenge of the Frey’s would be so nice, but if they are dead and buried it fits perfectly to me. And maybe everything I’m talking about is a little mistake from Mr. Martin (or my memory) at all...

I still have hope we will get a surprise with Grey Wind-Robb, though that connection between Stark children and their wolves seems to mean their fates are chained (you know, Lady is dead, so is Sansa -she's now Alaine-, etc). In that case, Grey Wind would be dead for sure, and that would clear the path for Ghost-Jon to be the real leading role.

And that's how real life works: your acts and your presence (Robb's) mean everything, until one day they doesn't mean anything anymore. So sad so true.

i think it's as simple as Robb was regretting that Grey Wind was not anywhere near him. Catelyn always told Robb to keep Grey Wind close because she hoped that if something dangerous happen to Robb, grey wind will be able to help him as Summer helped Bran. I don't think Robb is warging into Grey Wind when he was dying, he realized that he's going to die, his mom too, and his kingdom as well, there' too much going on in his head

Such brilliant theories you guys, this is almost as good as reading the books. Since my Dad is the only one of my line that has watched the series, I am so happy to sit on this site for hours and get clarification, food for thought and bunches of other goodies. Whatever you do....

DO NOT BE DISMAYED, KEEEEEEP REEEEADING!

I am pretty certain he is dead. And I have to admit that this grieved me even more than the Stark humans, because Grey Wind had known all along that this was going to happen and still he chose to stay and let himself be forced across the bridge into the castle. He did it just for Robb and paid with his life. ;-(

The reason I identified so closely with Grey Wind is not only because I love wolves and animals and dogs etc, but also because I was spoiled before and knew they were not going to leave the castle alive. So I felt Grey Wind's pain and kept yelling at the (audio) book "NOOOO! Don't go in there! RUN! RUN! It's a trap! RUN!" but it was futile and soooo painful to watch/read/listen to.

I doubted for a long time that Grey Wind was really dead, but...

later in the story they do not only tell the details about the wolf's head being sewed to Robb's body, but also that they needed several wolf hounds and archers to bring him down. So he did fight for his life and he lost.

God, I need to stop thinking about this, I'm still not over it. :-(

I think the character's relationship with their wolves says a lot about them. For example, Sansa is so passive in the beginning her own dad kills her puppy. Robb becomes more concerned with battles and being Kingly and ignores Grey Wind's warnings, hence his fate. The most obvious one is Jon being the outcast and having the white wolf, but you can see this too with Shaggydog and Rickon as the wild ones and Bran having a close but nostalgic relationship to Summer. Oh and Arya, wanting a pack so bad, so whose wolf is a pack leader?

My point: Robb should have listened to Grey Wind!!! The wolves know best.

Perhaps Robb did warg into Westerling then Grey Wolf.. but is it possible he got into Nymeria? She roams around the trident which is close to where he died, so perhaps he became a part of her.

Spoiler
Arya ends up crossing the sea to join the Faceless Men, but in an effort to rid herself of "Arya of House Stark" and all other personalities (weasel, Arryy, etc) maybe she will lose her connection with Nymeria
which would be okay, because Nymeria would be Robb.

I doubt it, only a powerful warg can pull that off.
