Writing Descriptions... and anything else!

Amazon's had a huge deal on free writing books, and between them and some of my other sources, I wanted to share some hopefully-useful links for writing descriptions - rooms, scenes, physical descriptions, etc.

Clothes/Fabric

http://phrontistery.info/fabric.html : a bunch of descriptive words for fabric. Also useful if you have no idea wtf "samite" is, for example.

Colours - when you're tired of just saying "red dress"

http://phrontistery.info/colours.html

http://www.coloria.n.../colornames.htm - has the hex codes and all

Physical Description

http://obsidianbooks...cribe-hair.html

http://obsidianbooks...escription.html

http://obsidianbooks...-eye-color.html

Personality / Character Development

http://eddyfate.com/...d-in-the-rough/ - an easy character development technique

http://www.routinesf...acter-diamonds/ - a variation on the diamond

http://members.cox.net/cflynn11/articles_tips1.html - another diamond suggestion.

--These are easy links; any book on writing will give you suggestions on creating novel-worthy characters, but many often have suggestions for the interactions with antagonists and similar things we don't have our own complete control over.

Horses

http://www.bookviewc...-Writing-Horses (an e-book, but well worth it!)

This month (Nov 2011), Amazon has a lot of free ebooks that deal with writing (possibly because of NaNoWriMo) so I encourage anyone - whether you have a Kindle or will just use the cloud-reader! - to go check them out and see if you want to grab any.

Also, as always, don't forget the Concordance: http://www.westeros....el/Concordance/
