Southpaw1989
is anyone else disappointed the Red Viper was killed by The Mountain? I was really hoping to see more of him dangit
jessalyn
Yeah, the Viper was a dude. My friends and I loved him when he came around. But alas... We know better than that at this point!
Southpaw1989
yeah I expected him to win and play a bigger role in book 4 but I guess I was wrong..
spaceghost
He was shaping up to be a favorite minor character for me so I was very sad to see him go, although it is satisfying to know that the Mountain is suffering a horrible death. That fight scene was so terrifying though I had a hard time getting through it- such atrocious crimes to be accused of (and guilty of, no less.) The_Salt_Wife
The sad thing was that he lost his life after having essentially won the battle. That made it even harder to swallow. I suspect Martin takes some perverse pleasure from taking his readers through the wringer like that. :D
Ser Malthred Storm
He was defiantly killed off too soon.
SI Monster
Honestly, I think it made sense for him to die. Tyrion already had a someone champion him and win in Bron. If the Viper won the duel, Dorne would be satisfied and move to peace, Tyrion would have been out of danger and there would be a little less strife in Westros. Now where's the fun in that?!The Viper was my hero since he was the only one to call out the Mountain and threaten Prince Joffery (he gave him a scorpion as a present) in the same day. And there is nothing like a dinner guest who keeps asking "When will we get to the justice?" It's like asking when will the execution kick off? I will forever think of the Prince of Dorne as the Boba Fett of this universe. On page for the shortest time, but you get the most fans.
Blangadanger
I will forever think of the Prince of Dorne as the Boba Fett of this universe.I think the Boba Fett comparison is valid. Memorable, awesome name? Check. Badass fighter shrouded in mystery? Check. Very little time seen in the story? Check. A minor character that everyone who's read the books HAS to love? Check. That whole fight scene was very intense for me while reading. I had no idea how it would turn out, and I love that it's told from Tyrion's point of view, because he's more tense than the reader is. Sad to see him go, but it was literary bliss. Should make for some great television when/if they get there on HBO.
Gingerly Grumkin
He had it too, right? The Mountian looked done for, stabbed like 3 times with a spear inside him! Why did the Viper try to have a "Mortal Kombat Finish Him!" I guess he wanted to savor it, I thought it was kinda stupid that he did that, who would underestimate the Mountain? (only other stupid thing in ASOIAF is that Bran and Rickon were undergrond the whole time!)

Why did the Viper try to have a "Mortal Kombat Finish Him!" Everyone needs a character flaw. For the Red Viper, it was hubris. Then again, his spear was ruined and the sword was available. One rule seems to fit the GRRM universe that is casually ignored: when you have a chance to kill someone, do it!
Errant Bard
He was an Inigo Montoya knock-off, something of a spaniard Eroll Flynn. Good riddance.I never understood what people found interesting in him. Beside the mustachios twirling.
Horza
People like Inigo Montoya, you heartless caterwaulling killjoy.

Lady Meera Reed
I love Prince Oberyn. I think he came to KL knowing he's gonna die there .. :frown5: At least he got the Mountain to confess.
Lord Theon Greyjoy
Was so sad when he went, his casual and knowledgeable nature went well with Tyrion's I felt. I could imagine them together spending weeks exchanging tales and viewpoints of affairs old and new, and enjoying it.
addie
Yes it was sad, but at that point in the book, I guess we have to know that strong, brave et legitimate princes don't make it, leaving the action to girls, children, crippled of all kinds, and bastards born. That's the way it goes.
Brandon Baratheon.
Look, I don't mean to be rude but this is not as easy as it looks, so I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't distract me. :ninja:Are you saying the red viper is a ninja?
Errant Bard
Are you saying the red viper is a ninja?I was quoting the Man in Black from The Princess Bride, actually. used the blue ninja when I wanted the black, but heh.Oberyn is definitely an Inigo Montoya knock off, not a ninja. It's better if he's dead. He didn't have real ultimate power.

Elaena Targaryen
I think the Viper had a lot of potential in the story, his character could have been fleshed out more, and he wasn't finished, he still wanted to take on Tywin for his role, and whatever else Dorne may have going on. He was one of my favorites and that fight with the Mountain was the most intense moment for me., I was nail-biting. I do love that he got the confession before he died.
