Aeron Greyjoy molested?

What makes this theory even more plausible is that we haven't had a child molester along, have we? I can't recall, was there a mention of Cleganes's sister dying at suspicious circumstances, or am I confusing it with something else? - Anyway, in the broad scope of depravities GRRM has portrayed so far, I can't believe he would miss out on this.

I missed the entire molestation thing. I thought he was tortured or something. I knew the screaming hinge was important but I can't seem to remember reading anything about the hinge being the door to his bedroom as a child or to him sharing a room with the other brother. But the theory seems to fit.

I can't stand his character for raping his brothers wife - and then Victarian beat her to death. I had a hard time getting through those chapters.

And yes, Euron is a serious threat. The fact that he has that horn is scary.

I just started reading A Game of Thrones for the second time this week and I've already started picking up things I've missed the first time.

I just finish DwD (Iam one of those who started reading after the HBO series) and I'm seriously thinking about a re-read from GoT right now. There are so many details.. I believe it will be an interesting experience...

I started reading after watching the show too, well that and a lady from the office was reading them. I bought the first four in Trade Paperback and borrowed ADWD from a gentleman at work. After reading all five plus the Dunk & Egg stories I decided to start over. I have to kill time until ADWD comes out in paperback. Starting on the first page I've noticed things that I missed the first time.

It' subtle. He's falls asleep on horseback as he's leaving Goodbrother's castle:

The sound came softly, the scream of a rusted hinge. "Urri," he muttered, and woke, fearful. There is no hinge here, no door, no Urri. A flying axe took off half of Urri's hand when he was ten-and-four, playing at the finger dance whilst his father and his elder brothers were away at war.

- FOC, The Prophet

There may be other references as well. When Aeron dreams of the room Urri is in it, and Urri didn't survive to adulthood. It's not definitive, but it suggests that Urri and Aeron shared this room when they were boys.

Well, there is a suggestion that whatever Joff did that made Tommen 'go away' for a while was sexual in nature.

And in the Hedge Knight IIRC one of Eggs older brothers threatened to use him like a woman.

Huh. Just today, I was thinking how choking is a terrible death. I retract the statement.

And here I thought that Joff was "merely" torturing Tommen - but it's true that when he ordered Sansa stripped and beaten, there was an apparent sadistic sexual content, even Tyrion notices that.

Joff also had Tommen's pet fawn skinned and turned into a Jerkin. Ugh.

To add to the Euron / Damphair theory, Victarion tells the Maester who complains that he has been used as a woman that he should defend himself. Again highlighting femininity and weakness and victim blaming as part of male rape.

I feel so stupid for missing this. This is what comes of rushing through ironborn chapters.

Don't feel stupid! It's really subtle and I missed it the first and second time through. Hell, I picked up a new detail when I was typing in the block quotes on my earlier post. Specifically that when Aeron talks about the "bones of his soul, the grey and grizzly bones of his soul" he means his memories, a definition Martin set up about 370 pages earlier in the first Aeron chapter. That's a connection that most people will only make if they look for it, or if they happen to be typing block quotes on an online forum.

I think this thread is a nice companion to the Damphair hate thread that's been running alongside it. There is a lot happening in the Ironborn chapters.

And who knows, I might be wrong.

Don't forget Septon Utt, the molester/serial killer of the "Brave Companions." At least he gets his due from the Brotherhood.

Also, Tyrion mentions a preference for septons being child molesters and drunks; the priests that really scare him are the true believers.

It was Prince Aerion. Since he had no sisters he was going to make Egg into a woman and take him as a wife.

I know we're not supposed to expect much from a man who attacks people for puppets shows and drinks wildfire but this is its own special kind of sick.

Aeron spends his life helping men rise again harder and stornger, think about it for a minute, I feel stupid for missing that. I think he is a repressed homosexual. I think he is repressed because his only experience is being raped by his brother.
