A Thread for Small Questions XIV

Given the way that Gendry (does the BWB have any other smith) constrasts Beric's flamey sword with the wildfire tricks Thoros used to use on his sword, it seems that Beric's firesword is supposed to be some sort of magic. Gendry would know if this was some sort of trick to ignite a substance on the sword, which would quickly damage it and require frequent replacements, similar to Thoros's trick.

I think its pretty obvious that Thoros' old tricks were a poor imitation of the original fire-blood magic that didn't work so well. Even if he didn't know it.

Much like how he resurrected Beric by accident, doing old rituals that once had power but now had none and were nothing more than standardized rituals, then suddenly did have power again.

I have a question for the readers actually:

Is anyone [geniunely]rooting for Cersei to survive the books and retire and live out her days as lady of casterly rock?Especially since at the end of ADWD it has been noted that the "fire has been quenched from her veins" or something

along those lines..has the evil woman we"ve known during the first 4 books finally been replaced by a more stoic, wiser and peaceful

lady?

Hey if Jaime got a redemption, then Cersei deserves one too.

NOOOOOOO. I believe Cersei is evil at heart whereas Jamie is a product of his environment. In ASOS when the Red viper is telling Tyrion when he first met him when he was a baby he desribes how Jamie and Cersei were arbout 8 and Cersei twisted his cock and he was screaming and only stopped because Jamie told her to. She is evil at heart

We have seen proof of power and magic from R'hllor and the old gods of the north (bran in the weirwood). Is there any proof of the seven being legit?

Actually, we have proof that magic in general exists, not gods. I mean, we learn that the old golds are actually people who live in a cave and observe all that happens in Westeros through trees and other living things. I can't remember any magic or miracle, or the word you prefer, related to the Seven, though.

A question about the Faceless Man...

Is it only their face that changes ? Could a man become a woman in disguise ?

If you mean if they can change the organs that make them a man or woman, I don't think so. But I'm sure certain kinds of men could pass for a woman, and vice-versa, depending on other physical characteristics.

I've been looking at the map of the wall and the wild...

And it seems to me that the wall doesn't go all the way across the north. What keeps wildlings and wights from simply walking around the wall?

Nothing; from what I understand they do that sometimes, which is why those who live in areas not that protected, like the Bear Islands, have to learn how to defend themselves against raids. But that's for wildlings. I have no idea if wights and Others will be able to do the same thing.

That makes sense about bear island and stuff...I forgot about that. Wouldn't Mance have done better by taking his host around the wall?

Is there a reason given for why the wall doesn't go all the way across? It seems like a gross oversight in their security system... Kind of like the ventilation shaft that blows up the whole death star. ;)

The wall doesn't goes into the sea, and the bear island is a island!! The wildling can get there by boats.

IIRC you can get around the wall in one of the edges, but it is a difficult trip, probably why Mance decides not to use it. We don't know if the Others can't get past the Wall or just don't want it yet.

Maybe they are just awaiting for their number to go up a little before invade the kingdom and make their presence know to every one.

If u see the map,one end of the wall opens up to the sea where Eastwatch guards the area with its own (meagre)fleet.

The other end opens into mountains which are literally impossible to scale..and that portion is watched over by the shadow tower.

How is that obvious? He slathered wildfire on a sword. There's no reference to "original magic", aside from the fact that wildfire is a somewhat magical item.
