Favorite Book

I don't hate it, it's just not the best. A lot of my favourite characters went downhill in that book, Dany and Tyrion for starters. I'm hoping I'll enjoy it more on my reread, I raced through it the first time to find out what happened next

But the North/Wall plot was SO good! Reek, Reek, it rhymes with the peak of GRRM's writing skills! Dany and Tyrion really grew on me on re-read, when I already knew the names of the people around them instead of having to constantly remind myself who-the-fuck these people were.

 yeah it was, but since Jon became LC he started to irritate me. The whole set-up at the Wall was brilliant though, and I love the Reek bits. Hopefully the same will happen for me then! It was all pretty confusing on the first read, and like I said I kept racing through to try to get to the next bit

1.) ASoS without a doubt is my absolute favorite. So much happening here, from the prolouge, I got so hyped when the Others finally showed up to the tragic Red Wedding to Jon and the Wildling battle and then Stannis saving the day to Joff's death to Tyrion's trial and Oberyn vs. Mountain and finally Tywin gets what was coming to him. It was amazing.

2.) ACoK and ADwD. ACoK had so many things happening, but Arya's story was absolutely captivating and it had JAQEN. I truly did love ADwD, I know many people didn't, but Theon's story and witnessing the Boltons in all their creepy, dreadful glory.

3.) AGoT, I love this book but being that I saw season 1 first, I sort of saw what was coming already. It didn't impact me as much had I not saw the show first.

4.) AFfC, this book took me the longest read. I didn't hate it, but it just wasn't as good as the others. The only parts I really got into were the Ironborn chapters although most people hated them. I wasn't really into KL/Cersei chapters or even Arya's that much.

I absolutely agree with this order - ASOS was amazing; so much happened that caused me to have literary tourette syndrome - you forgot to mention Littlefinger and the moon door. But I think because so much is packed into ASOS, that is perhaps why AFFC grated on me so much - everythings grinds to a snail pace.

But ADWD was underated by those who were put off by the Essos chapters. The Northern chapters were captivating.

OMG, I totally forgot about that killer ending. "Only Cat". I literally gasped out loud when that happened, I had to stop reading to fully process what Littlefinger just did. So much awesomeness pact in one book.

ACOK, very action packed and I like the introduction to Davos.

I think AFFC gets a bad rap. It was frustrating not to have the main characters with their POV for an entire book and for those who read it when it was released having to wait so long for ADWD was probably torture. I think that AFFC though adds a lot of depth to the series.

First ASOS, with ACOK following as a close second.

AGOT next, for the introduction of the Starks and other characters - so dramatic at the end when all hell breaks loose, and also because the last two books, below, were my least favorites.

Don't get me wrong, I devoured all of the books, one right after the other, b u t . . .

I just got so bored with Cercei's story line in AFFC and irritated because there was so little about Arya, and kind of tired of wandering around the Trident.

And in ADWD I liked seeing more of Jon and the Wall, but that got sort of anti-climactic,, too, and it really bugged me that Stannis and Mel, and then Selyse ended up invading the story of Jon and the NW. And this is to say nothing of the main 'drag', which was feeling stranded in that horrible Essos

When I read ACoK, I was blown away from every moment. Arya's at her best in ACoK, I think, although she's pretty good in the last two books as well. I didn't really like ASoS that much until the last four hundred pages or so when...when everything just became the most awesome thing I'd ever read. ASoS is spectacular. I think it's partly that Jon's my favorite POV and he's at his absolutely peak in that book, but everyone else was pretty incredible, too. Tyrion gets especially awesome at the end, and watching Jaime and Brienne's relationship blossom... It's just so good.

AFfC was just...slow. I liked Arya and Sam and Brienne, but other than that... Looking back, Cersei's deteroration was interesting, but it still took up so much space. It was good. It just wasn't as good as the others.

Well, here's to The Winds of Winter! And may it be as grand as ASoS.

ASOS- i literally couldn't stop reading it! Every single chapter was captivating, there was so much going on! Definitely my favourite

ACOK- it's the one that got me into the series.

AGOT- better on a second read

ADWD-mixed feelings... some parts I liked, some I hated.

AFFC- it took me forever to finish it. I think it's the most boring (all those Iron Islands chapters... zzzzzzzzzz).

ASOS

AGOT

ACOK

AFFC

ADWD

I'm always suprised by people that like the second book the most. Book three has the best story (Jaime/Brienne, Arya/Sandor, Tyrion's downfall, Dany's conquest), best character development (Jaime turns into a better person, Tyrion kills his father and stops caring about his life) and best action scenes (red wedding, purple wedding, mountain vs viper).
