Whatever mistakes Barristan might have made, the worst he can be found guilty of is being omissive in some instances in which, had he acted, his life might would be at serious risk.

Jaime not only is guilty of all of the above, but he actively betrayed the King, and the 7 Kingdoms, by sleeping with the Queen (that it is his twin sister doesn't make that much difference here), getting her pregnant and passing her children as the King's, and because of his treason, tens (or hundreds) of thousands of people died.

Whatever lives he saved by killing Aerys, if he did saved any (I doubt it), he more than made up instead. He and Cersei are arguably the biggest responsibles for the WOT5K.

Neither of them are heroes. Barristan is a bodyguard, a really good one but nothing more than that. Jaime killed Aerys which was a noble act but he watched multiple vile acts beforehand and did nothing. He has also commited terrible acts.

I hate to rise to jaimes defense because barristan is by no means a bad guy he's actually one of my favorite characters the second to last barristan chapter in aDwD is one of the best in the series on a serious note. But jaime was misguided in his youth you come to find out that Aerys literally took Jaime into the Kingsguard to piss Tywin off and use him as a hostage and he was constantly putting jaime on bitch duty. Regardless of that Jaime sucked it up because he swore a vow. The Aerys slaying was an in the moment decision that was probably a 50/50 combination of him trying to save the town, and the other half him trying to protect his family. So his motives were not 100% pure but he still did what he had to do. He had to make a decision or countless people would have died one of which would have been Tywin. Before Jaime and barristan both stood idly by(like the nazis enabling hitler argument) the difference is Jaime realized his duty to the king ended when the king was batshit crazy and about to commit mass murder. If barristan was there he might have done the same thing or something similar. So Barristan is more "honorable" in the strict sense of the word. Jaime had a lot more adversity to deal with
