Kingslayer's Slayed Hand
in the episode (S01e05), during the scene where Maester Luwin is teaching Bran heraldry (with Theon practicing archery nearby) when Luwin asked Bran abt sigil of House Baratheon, Bran said - "a stag.... a crowned stag now that robert is king". This implied that before robert's rebillion the sigil of house baratheon was a stag and after robert became king the sigil was changed to a 'crowned stag'. however, i am unable to find any such reference in the books. acc to books the sigil had always seemed to be a crowned stag. so is this a goofup on hbo's part.....Can some please clarify? opark77
A change is not a necessarily a goof. In the books the sigil originates from the Storm Kings so it was always a crowned stag. Making it different in the show is fine by me though.
The hairy bear
Yeah, opark77 has the right of it. For the show, the stag became crowned once Robert got the Throne. For the books, the sigil dates back to the days of Argilac the Arrogant.
mike006
i've always wondered about that... i've looked it up and i think a crowned stag doesn't really mean a stag with a literal crown... i think it means a royal stag = with antlers of 12 or more branches
