Hmm then, which are still veiwing themselves as first men and have truth to back it up?

I believe all the Northmen but the Manderlys, and the Blackwoods. There may be more I'm forgetting.

I have this vague memory of Jaime reminiscing at some point of how when he was admitted to the Kingsguard at the Harrenhall tourney he was known as the "Young Lion." I thought it was poignant, given how he is known now, and I have been trying to find it again, but it was such a fleeting moment (just a sentence) that I can't. Does anyone know where that is? I have the books on paper, not on kindle, so I can't search for it.

Maybe you're thinking of when he was knighted?

A boy knelt; a knight rose. The Young Lion, not the Kingslayer.

But that was long ago, and the boy was dead.

Thanks guys! I love the ongoing theme of identity and how we are known by other people vs. how we see ourselves in these books. It comes up again and again, with Jaime, Arya, Sansa, Theon particularly and most literally in terms of their names/nicknames, but also with Jon's issues with being a bastard and Tyrion's issues with being a dwarf. Jaime's lines here and Arya's line about how "She'd had so many names. Had she only dreamed Arya Stark," are so moving to me.

"Her lips twisted. It was an ugly smile, a smile that reminded him of Ramsay’s. “Catelyn Tully dispatched Lord Eddard’s bones north before the Red Wedding, but your iron uncle seized Moat Cailin and closed the way. I have been watching ever since. Should those bones ever emerge from the swamps, they will get no farther than Barrowton.” She threw one last lingering look at the likeness of Eddard Stark. “We are done here.” aDwD pg.473 I have a feeling the House Reed as Neds Bones, or maybe Cat sent word word to him about it. Could this be a clue/foreshadowing of him going to the Crypts of Winterfell?

Anyone?

Mel's comments in ADWD dragons imply she has only made shadow babies with Stannis. We know she wants to make more because she propositions Davos and Jon Snow. While they turn her down, I'm sure quite a few of her followers that are very close by would say yes. So my question is, why does Mel seem to want specific men to father her children? Is there some logistical reason, or is it personal preference?

"Visions danced before her, gold and scarlet, flickering, forming and melting and dissolving into

one another, shapes strange and terrifying and seductive. She saw the eyeless faces again, staring out at

her from sockets weeping blood. Then the towers by the sea, crumbling as the dark tide came sweeping

over them, rising from the depths. Shadows in the shape of skulls, skulls that turned to mist, bodies

locked together in lust, writhing and rolling and clawing. Through curtains of fire great winged shadows

wheeled against a hard blue sky. " aDwD pg.356

Is this referring to Drogon?

We don't know. You're asking about things that are either unconfirmed or still open to interpretation.

It seems like dragons to me.
