After reading your post it sounds to me like the PW would be a good fit for season 3. With all your arguments though, aren't you overlooking the fact that this series is an adaptation. Last season showed that the writers were certainly willing to add or modify a storyline to fit with their vision of the ASOIAF saga. You point out that not including it would leave many characters flat going into season 4, and this would be true if the the events of the books were followed more or less as written, without any major additions. As with the Daenerys storyline of season 2, storylines can certainly be spiced up if a direct translation may have come off a little weak (only my opinion - some hated the changes).

These new additions could certainly have the potential to alleviate any 'depression' caused by the RW, and give a more satisfying conclusion the events in King's Landing without the PW needing to occur this season. Just another perspective on the subject.
