The Mountain/The Hound: Alive?

Recommended Posts

Like the majority of characters that GRRM "kills", he left both the Hound and the Mountain's demise extremely vague. Is the Hound gone for good? As far as the Mountain, the duel with the Red Viper was epic, but that is the last time we see the him. We hear of Qyburn's dealings with him in the dungeon while he is suffering from the poison, but never an affirmative, "yep, the Mountain is dead." At the end of ADWD, Cersei is given her champion, and I know my first thought was the Mountain. Despite a massive skull being sent to Dorn, could the Mountain be back in the form of this mute giant? And also, do you think his character will receive more development? He never had much of a part in the first 5 books, just other characters talking about how much of a bad ass he was. For that matter, who do you think will Cersie's champion will face?

Sorry for the volume of this questioning. Have at it.

The majority opinion seems to be that yes Ser Robert Strong is in fact Gregor Clegane brought back to life by some kind of necromantic magic.

It's also believed by a fair amount of people that Sandor Clegane is the The Gravedigger on Quiet Isle that we see in one of Brienne's chapter in AFfC.

It's not easy to kill a Clegane. In fact it's a lot harder than killing a Stark and main character to the story.
