I have read the third Dunk and Egg story and am most of the way through the second. I haven't read the first but does it (or anywhere else) explain more about the trial of seven?

There is some mention of a trial of seven in The Hedge Knight, indeed. I wonder if it will be a spoiler if I go into any detail.

I just ordered the Dunk and Egg - whatever - The Hedge Knight - stories in anthologies, right? Or you can buy an illustrated story book? I hope I ordered the correct books!

Yep, if you got the anthologies, that's the correct (inexpensive!) way to get them, until a set is released. A lot of people have trouble finding them on Amazon because the separate novellas are so bloody expensive. If you just get the anthologies, they're very reasonably priced.

Yeah, you did. And I bet you're going to love them! :)

Thanks! I noted how expensive they were separately - and then I write in them and highlight, etc. I cannot wait! Although - no matter how many times I reread, I always find something I missed! :read:

A couple of quick ones:

1. How do you pronounce Sidhe? How do you pronounce the Meereneese/Yunkish names - stress on first or second syllable of each name? Maybe some audio-book listeners could help here.

2. How and when exactly did the last dragon die? I mean actual dragon. Is there some interesting story behind this thing?

Sidhe is pronounced shee

Straight from the wiki.....(129-137 AL)

Death of the last dragon: King Aegon Targaryen struggles to breed healthy dragons - those he does manage to produce are born weak and sickly. He is unable to prevent the death of the last one, earning himself the title 'Dragonbane'. The last dragons leave behind several eggs which the Targaryens fail to hatch. These eggs are later destroyed or lost, leaving the dragons to be believed extinct.

I found discussion of will in SOS p. 629 - but it is unclear whether Robb sent his documents through the Neck - because the RW may have interrupted original plans. (I am hoping Howland Reed shows up with the authentic documents and answers to many other questions.)

I saw the mention of the will and I think it would be out of character for Robb to send the will with anyone in his war party. He took extreme precautions with his commanders that were to go through the Neck. I dont know where the documents are, but I would bet money they have been sent far away to a trusted location and not with Robb or his men in the field.

Plus: bonus stories along some of the same lines

Yeah stupid wiki, it also states that the last dragon died during Aegon III reign (131 - 157).

ETA: From the Hedge Knight concerning the last dragon.

Dunk had never seen a dragon. The old man had, though. Dunk had heard the story half a hundred times, how

Ser Arlan had been just a little boy when his grandfather had taken him to King’s Landing, and how they’d seen the last dragon there the year before it died. She’d been a green female, small and stunted, her wings withered. None of her eggs had ever hatched. “Some say King Aegon poisoned her,” the old man would tell. “The third Aegon that would be, not King Daeron’s father, but the one they named Dragonbane, or Aegon the Unlucky. He was afraid of dragons, for he’d seen his uncle’s beast devour his own mother.

If Roose Bolton, his Walda and Ramsay all dropped dead now, would "Arya Stark" be heir to the Dreadfort?

Since Jeyne/"Arya" becomes lady Bolton if Roose and Walda dies, she would inherit if Ramsay dies, at least if she is not found out to be Jeyne instead of Arya. There is precedence for the wife of the lord inheriting in Lady Dustin (Barbrey Ryswell), who is Lord Dustins widow.

But, there is the technicality of her not being married in her true name, so if it is discovered that she was married as Arya Stark, but is really Jeyne Pool, I don't think it will be well percieved by the other lords and don't think she will still have the right to the title. Personally I would argue that the poor girl has earned her title... Perhaps some of the lords and the future Stark in Winterfell will too.

It could be argued that the title belongs to the true Arya Stark, because she was "robbed" of it by an imposter. Somehow I think that is the way this would fall out if Jeyne is found out.

Thanks. You understand the "war stuff" far better than I do. My maps are even marked and I still err! :bang:

Are there any unnaturally tall women other than Brienne? Someone really ladylike but super tall..

I'm not sure if Brienne is 'unnaturally' tall. Wasn't Pretty Meris described as a tall woman?

ETA Yep. It's in ADWD The Windblown. "Just a thumb under six feet".

Lady Whent or Lord Whent? If Oswell was Lady Whent's brother then he wouldn't be a Whent, unless the claim to Harrenhal was through Lady Whent herself (I guess it's possible if Oswell gave up his claim to join the Kingsguard).

Sorry, I meant Lord Whent. For some reason I was under the impression that Lady Whent was born a Whent, and that she ruled due to the absence of any male siblings, a la Maege Mormont.

Did the "Great Bastards" of the Targs share some common traits appearance-wise, or did they vary in looks depending on their mother? Also is Great Bastards = Blackfyres true?

No, the Great Bastards were Daemon Blackfyre, Bloodraven, Bittersteel, Shiera Seastar... etc.

Only Daemon (and his descendants) got the name Blackfyre (after his father Aegon gave him the sword).

They varied a bit in appearance. Bloodraven was an albino, Bittersteel had purple eyes but dark hair, Shiera had the silver-gold hair but mismatched blue and green eyes, while Daemon Blackfyre look like a typical Targaryen. Note that Daemon was the one, and only one, who took the name Blackfyre, after he was gifted the sword Blackfyre by his father. His descendants retained the name.
