E-Ro
The title of the thread is "As of GoT."I realized that after my post.
Sweet April
As of AGOT my money is on Jaime Lannister and Barristan Selmy. Honorable mention to Bronn and the Hound.FWIW, in SOS Jaime thinks to himself that the Clegane brothers are stronger than he is, but with speed and skill he could beat them. Saci Targaryen
Why so little appreciation for the Red Viper and Ser Loras? Oberyn almost killed the Mountain in single combat, and Loras unhorsed Jaime in a tourney and hacked his way through Dragonstone with a broken rib, an arrow to his chest, another to his leg, and boiled oil all over him. _Oberyn_
Lyn Corbray has won quite a few duels.
StarkSupporter
Jaime Lannister (One of, if not the best during AGoT)Barristan Selmy (One of the best ever, and even at an old age, to be in the middle of the Red Keep and tell everyone present, including the 5 other Sworn Brothers of the KG he would cut through them)Sandor Clegane (More skilled than his brother, quicker, and still very big and strong)
Garlan Marius
Why so little appreciation for the Red Viper and Ser Loras? Oberyn almost killed the Mountain in single combat, and Loras unhorsed Jaime in a tourney and hacked his way through Dragonstone with a broken rib, an arrow to his chest, another to his leg, and boiled oil all over him.Well, if we're talking about sword skill, Oberyn uses a spear, so he's disqualified. Loras admits that Garlan is a lot better than him at swordfighting, and we only see him on horseback, anyway. We haven't seen Loras' body yet, so my hope is that the Tyrells are lying to Cersei. >_>
andrewside
Top 5 in some orderThe HoundThe MountainJaime LannisterBarristan SelmyGarlan Tyrell, he has the best of each brother, Willas's brain and Loras's fighting prowess.
Artos Stark
At the beginning of GoT Jaime is by far and away the best. Here is how I would rank them.1) Jaime2) Garlan3) Barristan4) Lyn Corbray5) The Hound6) Bronn7) The Mountain8) The Greatjon9) The Halfhand10) Mance
Saci Targaryen
Well, Oberyn fought with a spear because that was the only way to counter the mountain's reach, and he probably only lost the duel because he insisted on humiliating the mountain, instead of just hacking his head off. As for Loras, im assuming he wasnt on horseback when he climbed the walls of dragonstone, unless he had a flying horse. Garlan is awesome, no doubt, but we see to little action from him. Brienne is also getting too little love in this topic
Mark Antony
Would Jaime beat the Hound though? I'm not so sure and imo Barristan is number 1 despite his age.
lostinwesteros
When you put "As of GOT", I assumed you meant as of the first book in the series? In that case:Jaime LannisterSandor CleganeGregor CleganeRobb StarkSer Barristan Selmy, by reputation - I don't think we actually see him fight in AGoT
