Mafia 94 - Fringe: The Best of Both Worlds

House Targaryen

Recommended Posts

*There are no clues in this post*

"There is more than one of everything. I have said too much, I am not supposed to get involved. I have taken you as far as I can."

This is an early call to Game 94. It will be themed around the TV-Series 'Fringe' themed. This will be my first title-modded game (Expecto Patronum) and I'm really happy that it will reflect everything I stand for. Faraday and Zar are co-modding. PM us (The Observers), Expecto Patronum or Zar Lannister to sign up.

I have to warn you though, the game will be *curse word erased by the observer* insane. It will definitely not be for the faint of heart. I can assure you though that you will have loads of fun and will be in for quite the ride.

"I - I came to tell you... I have looked at all possible futures... and in every one, the result is the same. You have to die."

EDIT: I forgot to add that we are looking to observe 19 players in this game. So it'll be relatively large game...

Here's the game's basic concept:

MECHANICS.

Core Concept:

Just like in the Fringe TV Series, this game spans in between two parallel universes: the Main Universe (blue) and the Alternate Universe (red). These Universes are slightly different from each other. All alts (regardless of their alignment), exist in both universes, and their abilities may be different depending on the Universe they come from. The abilities in effect for the Day/Night phase will be those you posess at the beginning of the day. Each Day will start on whichever Universe the Observers (mods) are located. This is called Universe Focus and will be made clear in the game thread through scene flavor.

At the beginning of each day, you will be informed via PM if you are currently in control of your Main Alt (Informed as Main Alt, in blue), or Secondary Alt (Informed as Other Alt, in red). This will be referred to as Character Focus.

During each night phase, players may be able to change their character focus by "crossing the Portal". In doing so, your alter-egos will switch universes. If you decide to cross the portal, assuming nothing changes the Universe focus, or your crossing is somehow prevented, at the beginning of the next day phase you will control a different version of yourself and will be able to use any abilities this version may have.

---

The following ability is available to all players. Yes. EVERYONE.

Crossing the portal

If you choose to cross the portal you must PM the action “Cross Portal,” before the night ends. Should you not send the action before the night ends the observers will assume you did not change your Character Focus. Please note you may change your Character Focus AND take another action in the same night.

CLARIFICATION: All active abilities are triggered before portal crossings.

ADDITIONAL CLARIFICATION TO GAME MECHANICS.

Come again? Was that too weird to digest?

No worries! I can explain with a little illustrative example... as a slideshow!

Possible roles a player may have in this game include:

Human Innocent (Innocent)

Welcome, [FRINGE ALT]. You are 100% human; bodily fluids and flesh. Your blood is red, as it should. And have no affiliation to machines. You are an innocent. (And just in case you were wondering, you cannot simply draw some blood around from everyone because then there would be no point in the game. Yes, this means your alt is that dumb <_<).

Shapeshifter (FM)

Welcome, [FRINGE ALT]. You are a Shapeshifter along side [*INSERT PARTNER/S NAME/S HERE*]. You are a mixture of a bio-organism and a machine. You can impersonate others, which makes you impossible to recognize just by mere ordinary senses. However you have one flaw: mercury flows through your veins, exposing your true nature upon death or investigation by a Blood Analyst. What can we say? Nothing is perfect, not even shapeshifting killing machines. You are evil.

Mastermind (Symp)

Welcome, [FRINGE ALT]. You are one of the creators of the Shapeshifters [*INSERT MASTER(S) NAME(S) HERE*]. However, you are a human yourself. When investigated or killed your blood will be spilled red. Exposing you as “Not a Shapeshifter.” If all the Shapeshifters you created are eliminated their flash drives will sell you out as the mind behind them, this will means that the innocent players will kill you immediately afterwards. You are evil and win alongside with the Shapeshifters. Be careful not to get killed by them though!

---

additionally, you know the Shapeshifters may have this ability:

Factional Conversion: Once in the game you may attempt to inject Shapeshifter blood to a player and convert them to your cause. Said player will become an Apprentice Shapeshifter for the rest of the game and his winning conditions will be the same as yours. This player will retain any powers he may have possessed before conversion. Shall all other Shapeshifters be eliminated, this Apprentice will become a Shapeshifter on his own. This player will flip Shapeshifter upon death or investigation by a Blood Analyst.

This is the innocent Role PM:

Welcome, [FRINGE ALT/OTHER FRINGE ALT].

Character Focus: You are currently focused on your [MAIN ALT/OTHER ALT]

Permanent Abilities:

Portal Crossing: Should the portal be open at the beginning of the night, you may choose to switch universes to change your character focus. Assuming no other role intervenes and the Universes aren't somehow shifted, you will gain control of a different version of your alt at the beginning of the upcoming day phase. If you choose to cross the portal you must PM the action “Cross Portal,” before the night ends. Should you not send the action before the night ends the observers will assume you did not change your Character Focus. Please note you may change your Character Focus AND take another action in the same night.

Focus Abilities:

Your focus and accompanying abilities are designated in the accompanying Ability Message. Please review the updated Ability Message that will be sent at the beginning of each day. You may use any and all abilities you have during the current night, once per each ability.

Innocent Win Condition: You win when all evil players have been eliminated.

SPECIAL ABILITIES:

Abilities in this game fall under two categories: [CORTEXIPHAN INDUCED] & [NOT-CORTEXIPHAN INDUCED]

Note A: All these abilities (Cortexiphan induced or Not Cortexiphan induced) may be mixed with one another and have modifiers such as 1x Shot, 2x Shot or any Shot and might have other restrictions regarding the universe they are in.

Note B: Character Focus Shifting is a very important and crucial part of the game. These abilities are cumulative.

1st CATEGORY: CORTEXIPHAN INDUCED

Cortexiphan is a drug that induces different abilities among test subjects. These abilities might vary among subjects from different universes. Note that some subjects have also been known to be immune to the effects of this drug. Some even might need to activate their abilities one way or another. The following abilities are known to be caused by the drug and have manifested throughout the course of the years and may or may not be in this game.

Cortexiphan Allergic (Miller)

Cortexiphan does not agree with you, for the ability you’ve presented is that your blood somehow creates mercury. But don’t fret it is only in small quantities. Just enough so that when investigated your blood will contain traces of mercury and look silver, however upon death your blood will come up red in color. You will be shoown to be a “Shapeshifter” if investigated by a Blood Analyst. You will be shown to be “Not a Shapeshifter” if lynched or night killed.

Cortexiphan Absortion (Role Stealer)

Your Cortexiphan ability is exactly that, taking the Cortexiphan of others. At night you may use your ability by sending the mods a PM with the name of the person you wish to target. Assuming no other role intervenes, should your target have a Cortexiphan induced ability, you will gain control of it and they will lose control of it, permanently. Note that you will lose your Cortexiphan Absortion should you gain an ability. Please note that your targets action will not be prevented the night you attempt to steal it.

Empath (Cortexiphan Ability Finder)

You can sense others with similar abilities caused by Cortexiphan. At night, you can choose a person to investigate by sending a PM to the mods with the player you wish to target. Assuming no other role intervenes, you will receive a PM informing you one of the following:

1) Player A’s ability is [Cortexiphan induded ability].

2) Player A does not have a Cortexiphan ability.

3) No result.

Note that only the flavorful name of the ability will be reported. Also, please note that your ability resolves before Portal Crossings. A message of “No result” means that something has interfered with your ability and did not resolve successfully.

Glimmering (Character Focus Finder)

You sense if things come from a different universe than your own, because they glimmer to you. At night, you can choose a person to investigate by sending a PM to the mods with the name of the player you wish to target. Assuming no other role intervenes, you will be told if that person “Glimmered” or “Did not Glimmer” (Or "No Result" if something does interfered) at the beginning of the next day phase. Please note that your ability resolves before Portal Crossings.

Over Sensitive [Although you think you are an observer. Keep telling yourself that] (Blind Watcher)

Cortexiphan heightened your hearing sense, astronomically. At night, you may choose to use your ability by sending a PM to the mods with the name of the person you wish to target. Assuming no other role interferes you will be informed if that person was targeted by a player(s) other than yourself (although not by whom).

Note that your ability resolves before Portal Crossings. A message of “No result” means that something has interfered with your ability and did not resolve successfully.

Mind Inception (Alt Stealer)

Cortexiphan has heightened your senses, and you now have the power of mind control. During the day-phase, you may send the name of a player to the Mods. Assuming no other role intervenes, you will gain control of their alt for a given period of time. Any posts you will like this alt to make must be sent to the mods via PM. The targeted player will be notified they have been taken over and will lose access to their account for the designated period of the inception.

Paradigm Shifter (Self + Target Focus Shifter)

You are able to change the focus of any person you choose to target, however by doing so, your own focus will shift and therefore both of you will change Character Focus during the night phase. At night you may choose to use your ability by sending a PM to the mods with the name of the player you wish to target. Assuming no role interferes you will force this player to change his Character Focus and you will also change Character Focus yourself. (Think of this a an extra Cross Portal for anyone you desire and yourself. Please note that YOU may not use your normal Cross a Portal ability the night you choose to use your Paradigm Shift. Also note that if the player you targeted used his Portal Crossing he will still be affected by your powers). Paradigm Shifts are cumulative and resolve simultaneously.

Warrior (Soldier)

You are one of the warriors that were prepared for the impending war between the worlds. Your abilities are magnificent and incomparable, however they will only manifest in the darkest hour. Should you stand in a 1 vs. 1 case scenario, your faction will emerge victorious. In the case of 1 Evil soldier vs. 1 Innocent soldier, the Evil will win the battle.

Time Adept (Delayer)

The Cortexiphan granted you the ability to manipulate time. At night, you may use your ability by sending the mods a PM with the name of the person you wish to target. Assuming no other role intervenes any active abilities they choose to perform will be delayed to the subsequent night (this includes the factional kill only if one killer remains, but does not include any passive abilities and/or the regular Crossing a Portal action). You will not be informed if this ability was successful or not.

Time Shifter (Vote Count Resetter)

Cortexiphan has made you able to control time to your will. You may choose to use your ability by sending the mods a PM during day time. Should you choose to use it, time will go back and any votes made during that day-phase will be forgotten. This will not affect the end of day deadline. Nothing will be posted indicating you were the one that turned back time.

Universe Shifter (Universe Focus Shifter)

You are able to communicate directly with the observers and they listen to you. At night, you may use your power by sending a PM to the mods to use your Change the Universe Focus. Should you choose to use your abilities, assuming no other role intervenes, the observers will make the change at the beginning of the next day. The activation of this ability will be publicly informed on the day scene, although who activated it will not be revealed.

Unblockable Shifter (Ascetic Crosser)

Your Cortexiphan power is unique. You have no need of a portal to change your Character Focus. If you have this ability no role may interfere with your crossing ability. This ability is untargetable.

EDIT: Format.

2nd CATEGORY: NOT CORTEXIPHAN INDUCED

The following abilities may or may not be in the game. These are not Cortexiphan induced:

Afterlife Inquirer (Gravedigger)

You have the infamous machine created by Massive Dynamic. You can investigate the dead and learn to do whatever they could do. You may PM the mods during the night. Assuming no other role intervenes, you will learn any ability that player had when they died. However you may only use this ability on a player that died the day before. (If you use it on N2, you may use it on someone that was NK on N1 or someone that was lynched on D2). If the person you targeted had a limited shot ability you will gain the shots they had left. If they didn\'t have any shots left, you will gain one shot. Note you only learn an ability that\'s NOT factional or cortexiphan induced.

Anticortexiphan Administrator (Cortexiphan-Induced Role Vanillizer)

You hold the perfect dosage of anti-drug (it’s a thing, believe me). At night, you may choose to use your ability by sending the mods a PM with the name of the player you wish to target. Assuming no other role intervenes, should they have any Cortexiphan induced ability, they will lose that ability, permanently. Any subsequent investigations that player is subject to will come up as “negative” on the drug.

Note that your ability resolves before Portal Crossings.

Artificer of Shiny Lights (Role Blocker)

You are known to create artifacts that cast many shiny lights and flares, of many different colors! You throw them at anyone and they get too distracted by the amazing colors to make any of their actions. At night, you may choose to use your ability by sending the mods a PM with the name of the player you wish to target. Assuming no other role intervenes, your target will not be able to make any night actions, including the Portal Crossing. Please note that this ability does not prevent kills.

The Beacon (Healer-Guard)

No, YOU are NOT the beacon. But you carry one (or more than one) though. They look like giant bullets with undulating blue stripes of LEDs. Cool huh? (Just in case you were wondering). This (these) object(s) was (were) carelessly cast aside by the observers (or was it intentional?). You may use this (these) object(s) to pop someone out of the timeline and blink them back into it when the night comes to an end. At night, you may choose to use your ability by sending the mods a PM with the name of the person you wish to target. Assuming no other role intervenes they will become untargetable by any other player and will not be able to perform any of their actions for the remainder of the night.

Should there be more than one player using a beacon, their actions will resolve simultaneously. So, for instance if Player A uses a beacon on Player B who uses a beacon on Player C, both Player C's and Player B’s abilities will be blocked.

Note that this prevents all active abilities, including Portal Crossing. The only exception is the Unblockable Shifter.

Blood Analyst (Finder)

As you know, Shapeshifters are known to have mercury on their blood. Since you carry a blood kit with you, you sneak at night to collect blood “samples” and analyze them to see if they have traces of mercury in it. At night, you may use your ability by sending a PM to the mods with the name of the player you wish to target. Assuming no other role interferes you will receive a PM informing you “Shapeshifter” or “Not a Shapeshifter.” A message of “No result” means that something has interfered with your ability and did not resolve successfully.

Coward (Hider)

The name says it all. You are a coward. You may hide yourself behind a player of your choice at night. If that player happens to be evil, he will kill you. However, if you hide behind an innocent, should you be targeted by an ability or a night kill nothing will happen. However, if the player you hid behind is targeted by a successful night kill, you will die along with him.

Erased from the Timeline (Erased)

Your death causes an instability in the Universes. At the event of your death by any means (whether it be lynched or Night Killed or even Modkilled), the observers will proceed to erase you from the timeline permanently to avoid breaking the stability of the universes with the mere memory of your presence. At the event of your death, not only will you cease to exist, but a black hole (vortex) will replace any posts you made during your lifespan. (Nothing will happen to the posts in which people quoted you. They will stay as they are). This is a passive and unblockable ability and will activate on its own when you die regardless of the cause.

Fringe Division Director (Lynch Protector)

Oddly enough you still maintain some credibility even in this time of need. You still do things incognito by placing your seal on a piece of paper with a name. At night, you may PM the mods a player\'s name other than your own. Assuming no other role interferes, the player will be rendered unlynchable during the next day phase. This will be publically announced. They may not be lynched during the given day phase. Any votes that are placed on the target will not count. The player who has been made immune\'s vote still counts and majority is not affected.

Impulsive Desperate (Innocent Child)

You are mentally unstable. The high levels of stress in your being make you very impulsive. The need to prove yourself is larger than life. At any moment during the game you may choose to grab any pungent object and stab yourself in any non-lethal body part you choose by writing “I’m sick of all of you. *Grabs ____________ and _______________ in ________________.*” (You WILL have to fill in the blanks with: 1. A pungent object. 2. A verb that implies the spilling of your blood. 3. A PG-13 body part). By doing so, the mods will proceed to write a scene confirming your innocence since, well, you decided to splatter everyone around you with your red blood.

Lie Detector (Gambit Detector)

You may chose to use your role by sending the mods a PM at night with a role-claim related post you wish to "detect." If no other role intervenes, you will be told if the statement on that post is "True" or "False." Be careful, if the post is not objective the observers may or may not be able to give you a proper answer.

Loyal Agent (Martyr)

You are not afraid to take a bullet for your team, literally. At night, you may choose a player to target by sending his name via PM to the mods. Assuming no other role intervenes, that player will be healed, and you will die in his place were he to be targeted. Your death is automatic and can not be prevented by a Healer.

Massive Dynamic Scientist (Healer)

Here on Massive Dynamic you create drugs for everything and everyone. The latest trend is to avoid people from having their eternal rest. Be quick though, if you don’t act upon the first hours of death the drug will have no effect. You are a Healer. At night, you may choose to use your healing ability by sending the mods a PM with the name of the person you wish to heal. Assuming no other role interferes, and if the person was targeted as a night kill, they will die and immediately be brought back to life. You will not be told if your action was successful or not.

Portal Closer (Switch)

You are capable of closing the Portals. At night you may choose to activate your ability by sending the mods a PM. Assuming no other role intervenes, you will prevent all players from changing their Character Focus for that night. In the event of more than one Portal Closer using their abilities on the same night, they will not cancel out.

Silencer (Sheep Maker)

You possess the prototype of a noise reduction device Massive Dynamics currently wants to launch. At night, you may choose to use your ability by sending the mods a PM with the name of the player you wish to target. Assuming no other role intervenes, this player will only be able to post quotes and smileys for the next day. Voting majority is not affected by the success of your ability.

Note that your ability resolves before portal crossings.

Tracker (Night Action Finder)

You are so paranoid you placed a chip on everyone (yes, you were stupid enough not to draw blood from them). This chip will react depending on their night activity. At night, you may choose to use your ability by sending a PM to the mods with the name of the player you wish to target. Assuming no other role intervenes you will be informed if the chip responded with “Performed a Night Action” or “Did Not Perform a Night Action.”

Note that your ability resolves before Portal Crossings. A message of “No result” means that something has interfered with your ability and did not resolve successfully.

Typewriter Pen Pals (Friends)

Each of these unique typewriters has a twin. Just like yourselves! So much fun! You may write a 30 word message on your typewriter. Assuming no other role interferes, it will be printed on its twin the following day. You will not be informed of your success. The player will not be informed the sender\'s identity unless you choose to reveal it in your message.

Urine Analyst (Cortexiphan Finder)

As you know, all of you were dosed with Cortexiphan. But not all of you presented abilities due to the drug; some people’s bodies don’t react to it. You sneak around at night to collect urine “samples” *ewww* and analyze them over night to see if they come up positive or negative for the drug. At night, you may use your ability by sending a PM to the mods with the name of the player you wish to target. Assuming no other role intervenes, you will receive a PM informing you one of the following:

1) “Cortexiphan Positive.”

2) “Cortexiphan Negative.”

3) No result.

Note that you will not be told what this ability is. Also, please note that your ability resolves before Portal Crossings. A message of “No result” means that something has interfered with your ability and did not resolve successfully.

Wannabe Observer (Apprentice Finder)

You have been observing the ones that observe for long now. You long to be like them and want to copy their magnificence. However, you’re just a puny human. But you have made a fair share of observing of your own. Should any person with a not Cortexiphan induced finder role be killed, you will inherit the finder abilities and any limitations it may have. Specifically the one that dies first. The possible finder roles you might inherit your ability from are: Drug Analyst, Blood Analyst or Tracker. If that person had made a successful investigation the night they were killed you will get their result instead. There will not be two coexistent Wannabe Observers. Instead Wannabe Wannabe Observers might exist, taking the place as the next Wannabe Observer in line in case a finder dies. (No, a Wannabe Wannabe Wannabe Observer will definitely NOT be in the game. There is a limit, you know).

There is more than one of everything...

We observers have known that for quite a while. You on the other hand didn't know that until recently. We have been watching you and we have observed every possible future and this is the only way to solve the issue at hand. The sad thing is that in all of them you have to die.

These two universes, the MAIN and the ALTERNATE have been at war for some time now. Each of you has a Dopplegänger. But the story does not end there, it has merely started. In this moment your universes are threatened by what we like to call shapeshifters, these impersonators look exactly like you, like both of your "selves." And their only purpose is to eliminate all of the ones that stand between them and their evil agenda. Some of you are not what you seem, for you hold silver blood in your veins. Naturally there is more than one of this shapeshifters, and they impersonate both personas of the two universes we are choosing to observe. The solution is simple. We cannot interfere however you may decide to do as you wish. It is exactly because of that we are doing what we are doing.

We will place you in a secluded space, you will have direct view of the statue of liberty. Why? Just because we like the view. In there you may choose to do as you wish. Be warned, at night some of you might die, so we recommend you try to find the shapeshifters in daytime.

We will observe 19 people:

Astrid Farnsworth

Brandon Fayette

Charlie Francis

David Robert Jones

Elizabeth Bishop

Frank Stanton

Henry Higgins

John Scott

Lincoln Lee

Marilyn Dunham

Nick Lane

Nina Sharp

Olivia Dunham

Peter Bishop

Phillip Broyles

Sam Weiss

Thomas Jerome Newton

Walter Bishop

William Bell

We can assure you the shapshifters are amongst them. However... We have said too much already. We cannot interfere.

The time is set...

http://www.timeandda...30&msg=Star of Game

We will observe you then... be ready and make sure to read the rules carefully, we observers have no problem erasing people from the timeline if needed.

We anticipate all of you know the drill, therefore we will not explain how the game is played...

And please remember... There is more than one of everything...
