The Starks will Rise

Winter Has Come, let the enemies of the North cower in fear. I'm thinking that WoW is goin to bring all kinds of retribution down on Boltons, Freys, Lannisters, and anyone else that worked to kill the Stark family. Boltons are stuck in the North because its winter surrounded by a bunch of really pissed off Stark bannermen who only side with them because they are afraid of getting on the wrong side of the Iron Throne. However the Iron Throne is having quite a bit a trouble of its own and won't be able to send reinforcements to the North especially through that ridiculously powerful winter storm.

Stark Powerhouses- Sansa: soon to be ruler of the Vale when she finally offs LF and assumes control with Harry the Heir (Vale wanted to side with the Starks, so will finally have their chance), Bran: greenseer extraordinaire, Arya: killer assassin with possible help from the horde of wolves in riverlands, Rickon: very angry little Stark that will have all the old bannermen flocking to him plus maybe a few hundred skagosi cannibals, Jon: (when he is recovered) again very angry Stark with decent size army of wildlings who really want to kill some Boltons for skinning their women and capturing Mance and maybe a few giants when they get through the Wall, Manderly angry fat man who will roll on top of them and crush them like grapes.... Sorry had to throw that in, but seriously he is a powerful guy that has a fleet of ships and a lot of money.

Iron Throne Powerhouses- Tyrells: Oldtown is being raided, fleet on wrong side of westeros, and going through power struggle with Lannisters. Freys: made really stupid power play that has left them with more land than they can control that is filled with unhappy bannermen, wolves, BwB lead by sociopathic undead Stark. Boltons: up a creek with no paddle. Lannister: all dead or gone except Cersei and Jaime, and have successfully lost most of their powerbase, shown to be a terrible ruler, angered very powerful religious group, going through power struggle with Tyrells.

Other considerations-Dorne: not friendly to Iron throne will probably side with Aegon and has stayed out of the fighting so will have a good amount of soldiers fresh for battle. Aegon: has Golden Company that is finally comming home to their rightful lands as very experienced warriors lead by a "Targ" that will legitimize their victories. Dany: when she FINALLY gets there will most likely land in the south somewhere to avoid the Northern winter, join in on the brawl, probably pulling some bannermen to her cause as she will have dragons, unsullied, greyjoy fleet, possible volantene army, dothraki, and who knows what else.

On Jon- yeah the Others are there but I'm pretty sure the wildlings are going to the Boltons one way or another and Jon will probably go along with them to save fake Arya.

How can Stannis hold the north.

He only has some power up there because the northmen are divided and there is no STark currently there to unite them, once there is, Stannis can kiss any chance of ruling the north goodbye, and head back to the wall to fight the war that he must fight

Well, presumably he holds the North because a decent number of the northern lords are already sworn to him, and Manderly has pledged to support him once Davos has gotten Rickon back. Seems like Stannis has a better chance than anyone else of uniting the northmen.

They aren't raising another king of winter haha! :P If Rickon is recovered he's being a Warden only.

I dont get the whole 'Stannis is amazing' thing. He isnt AAR, and dragons are returning. I just cant see him being alive by the end of the book

If he dies it will be a tragedy for Westeros. No-one else cares enough about the realm. No-one else has the determination to see the war through.

Jon Snow

Not a king, has basically no forces, is technically dead.

Tyrion Lannister

Not a leader, not a king, can't command, in Essos.

Daenerys (If she ever turns up)

In Essos, has dragons but can't control them. Not a good tactician or strategist.

Varys

Not a king, can't lead, questionable whether he cares about the realm, tied up with things in KL and the Stormlands.

Davos

Not a king, not a leader, all his power comes from Stannis.

Dolourus Edd

No.

Hodor

Just no.

Stannis

He has no defensible seat, He has lost all Storms End and Dragonstone. The Northerners are more focussed on sorting out the Stark issue. Stannis is having to put his hopes on getting sellswords, most of whom are already wrapped up in Mereen, or at Volantis preparing to go. All the while he has Melisandre telling him utter rubbish swelling him up with the idea that he is invincible

No Stannis=no Stark in WF. Simple as that. Stannis has a sizable army with him, with northern reinforcements incoming (unless the Northmen are oathbreakers?) Stannis is the last hope for Starks in the North.

But then also, if Stannis doesnt come up with a Stark, he would lose everything, the only men in his army worth squat are the men from the northern mountain clanes. So no Stark = No Stannis, but then again, even Renly said, Starks and Baratheons are natural allies

His southron knights just saved the NW from certain defeat. Stannis already has the allegiance of the Glovers, the Mountain Clans, the Karstarks, the Umbers are a few others. Unless they're going to break their oaths they're already sworn to Stannis. It also seems pretty certain that Davos will return with Rickon. So no Stannis=no Starks but no Starks=/= No Stannis.

The allegiance of the northerners is based upon Stannis delivering Arya (or for manderly davos delivering Rickon) and giving the North back to the Starks.

Without that stark he is simply another southerner in a harsh land.

And even if he does free Winterfell and gives it back to the Starks, the moment his men try to burn that weirwood, things will go sour

Jon snow is a targ and a stark, he's noble enough to be a king, and forces can come in time, How can you say Tyrion cant lead? he did great as hand, plus he might also be a targ and he's def a lannister. What you said about Dany I think is true but I don't think it effects the original post that Dany cares enough about Westeros and the people to see the war through to the end and do good things for the people, tho as you said if she gets there. Varys can def lead, he's got no claim but he is easily one of the smartest if not the absolute smartest person in the series. Davos Edd and Hodor I agree.

He can lead a sortie, he can order people around as Hand when he has the gold cloaks, mercenaries and clans with him, but he can't lead in battle and he can't lead the North because he is a Lannister and hated.

Varys can def lead, he's got no claim but he is easily one of the smartest if not the absolute smartest person in the series.

Varys cannot lead though. Being intelligent means nothing. People won't do what he says, people won't follow him into battle, etc. He just isn't a leader.
