Shierashiera
Aurane Waters? Pycelle mentioned that he would likely become a pirate, the Velaryons are relatives to the Targaryens. Is the corsair king mentioned before or after Aurane left KL?
Son of the Smiling Knight
A particulary succesful corsair, with royal aspirations? I dont think he will be of any great significance, a boring answer I know but still..I know I'm one of the people who tend to believe that everyone mentioned is not always important but for some reason this one bugs me.I tend to believe that it is Gerion Lannister (hopeful I know) because he seemed the most like Euron out of Tywin's brothers. He loved to laugh and was very sociable and he was Tyrion's favorite uncle.I'm not sure about Aurane Waters but that also could be a good theory, someone who has ebooks will have to look it up. Someone want to give me a rundown so i can contribute to this thread? The corsair king is first mentioned in ASoS Dany when Groleo states that he came by looking to buy Unsullied. He is later mentioned in AFfC The Queenmaker, when Garin tells that acorsair king had risen in the Basilisk Isles and raided Tall Trees Town.I think it is Gerion Lannister. He could have been thrown overboard by the crew of the Laughing Lion on Tywin's orders so he wouldn't bring any more shame on House Lannister. We haven't met Gerion yet, and I already like him. He had a good sense of humor, and he seemed to be the closest thing Tyrion ever had to a father. He gave Tyrion the encouragement and support he needed.@DanelleThe corsair king is mentioned before Aurane Waters leaves KL.

AdXRoss
I think its either Euron or Gerion.I did wonder if it might be Euron, although this might depend upon the timeline of his return to Westeros; i.e. did he get back too quickly to be the source of that legend? Fire Eater
Encouragement and support to rape a sex slave?Sorry I had to go there. Just this once. That was uncalled for.Gerion put Tyrion on the tables at feasts and had him recite Lomas Longstrider's Wonders and Wonders Made by Man. He pretty much ignited Tyrion's interest in books, and boosted Tyrion's confidence.
Agamemnon
I like the theory that it is Euron because he clearly has kingly aspirations before returning home, he did have Balon killed and sat right on the Seastone Chair without consulting any of Balon's children so it would not be a stretch to think he was calling himself a king back when he was still in transit returning from the East. This would depend on when the Corsair King was last mentioned though, the theory is not entirely shot if there is a mention of the CK early enough into Euron's regency because news travels very slow in the World of Ice and Fire, does anyone know if the CK is still active or maybe has moved on westward? Musashisamurai
I think it was foreshadowing euron, but I dohope Gerion appears. Especially if he has brightroar.Sadly, he cannot come back and kill Tywin. But he can kill Cersei, or slay some otgers

Tyrus Martell
I don't think Euron is the Cosair King. His ship, the Silence, has a very distinct crew and style and the timeline doesn't fit to when he returns to Westeros -- we hear of the Cosair King raiding Tall Trees Town in AFFC, but we know Euron is back at the Iron Islands at this point. I do think GRRM includes mentions of the Cosair King as part of his world building -- to give us a cool sense that there are other major things going on outside of the main POVs, even if they're not at the center of attention. I wouldn't be surprised if the mentions are just for that reason, but GRRM has proven in the past these little details usually lead to something plot significant. If it was Gerion, it'd be a bit too lame in my opinion. There's been too many revivals of long-dead or missing characters as it is, so it would be cool if the Cosair King was his own unique character. Maybe he'll join up with Aurane Waters and their forces will wreak havoc in the Eastern seas.

James Arryn
I don't see a member of the wealthiest family in Westeros setting up as a pirate. And I don't see Tywin having Gerion killed, especially if the desired effect of that death...he disappears...is pretty much the worst case scenario if you don't do anything.Tywin actually hated Tyrion, but it took a remarkable series if events and, in Tywin's eyes at least, a pattern of direct insubordination and I'll-repute before he moved actively against Tyrion, and even then he might have been telling the truth about the NW.Among other things, I think if Tywin Lannister actually has his brother killed, he doesn't do it in a way where a ship full of men know he did. jarl the climber
I think its just meant to show that piracy is becoming more and more of a problem between the War in Westeros and Danys upsetting the apple cart in Slavers Bay. Right now we have the Ironborn pretty much attacking anybody, Aurane Waters probaly setting himself up in the Stepstones, Saan returning from the North and now this Corsair King. None of this was going on before except for Saan and Saan was respectable as far as pirates goes.
Fire Eater
I don't see a member of the wealthiest family in Westeros setting up as a pirate. What if he knows he is not welcome back home, and has to fend for himself without access to his family's wealth? I doubt the corsair king was mentioned twice for nothing, especially given the rule of the Chekov's gun. Among other things, I think if Tywin Lannister actually has his brother killed, he doesn't do it in a way where a ship full of men know he did. Actually Tywin could have taken it as an opportunity. It sounds like him in that he always relegates his dirty work to his subordinates. Tywin could just say that Gerion disappeared in the Smoking Sea with the men he sent to look for Gerion being a ruse. Tywin was likely careful with men selected for Gerion's crew, and the crew likely knew Tywin would make good on his threats if they blabbed. Tywin may have hated Tyrion, but Tyrion was still his and Joanna's son.
