Dragonstone, the Wall, magic

The Freehold’s grasp had reached as far as Dragonstone, but never to the mainland of Westeros itself. Odd, that. Dragonstone is no more than a rock. The wealth was farther west, but they had dragons. Surely they knew that it was there.
- Chapter 14, Tyrion

We know the Valyrian Freehold was an empire built on magic. What if Dragonstone, much like the Wall, is a barrier that keeps (most) magic away from the Westerosi mainland?

This would explain why the previous attempts to hatch dragons had failed: they were all performed in a "magic free" zone.

I was thinking since it is made pretty clear that Dragonstone is a volcano island (kinda like Hawaii) that perhaps it is somewhere dragons go to breed or lay eggs, outside of Valaryia which also seems to have been destroyed via volcano. I know that Dragonstone was used to store eggs, perhaps that is only because it was the Targaryan seat though. Daenerys' eggs hatched in a fire with Khal Drogo, the Maegi (Miri Maz), and the Dany in it. Perhaps that is why the Targaryans all believe they will be reborn as dragons, they are to an extent. The only way in the past to hatch the eggs was on a funeral pyre hence why the Targaryans are burnt once they die, perhaps placed on their pyre with an egg. They wouldn't necessarily be reborn a dragon... like how when wargs die they go to their animal, their spirit may not actually be in the dragon but their death led to the dragon's life. Perhaps very long ago in the past the Targaryans were actually lowered (or dropped) into the volcano itself with an egg.

They have CotF magic. And the Others have Others magic. But it is true that maybe Valyrian magic (such as it is) could be blocked in Westeros - including dragon things.

really?

cotf/other magic?

magic is magic bro..

regardless if its in qarth or asshai or westeros, IMO its all about the user.

ie. thoros/mel/GoHH
