She doesn't have to fight, but as a noble from the Stormlands and a heir of her father she's supposed to support Renly, the Lord of the Stormlands.

But she doesn't just do that, she offers her personal service to Renly in his dishonorable cause. Macepledges to support Renly, Hightower have to support Mace's decision, but none of Leyton Hightower children personally go to offer their services to Renly. The House's pledge isn't the same as a personal pledge. Robar Royce's pledged to Renly while House Royce isn't. Balon Swan fights for Joffrey, never for Stannis or Renly, Jorah Mormont pledges to Daenerys, Andrew Estermont to Stannis, Aron Santagar to Joffrey. Hell, Barristan is a Selmy but he doesn't pledge to were House Selmy does. The Bannermen's duty relates to the head of the House, not all it's members.

The heir is a special case though. He (or she in Brienne's case) is supposed to be loyal to the liege lord of his father. Robar Royce made this exact point to Catelyn.

“The Royces are bannermen to House Arryn.”

“My lord father owes Lady Lysa fealty, as does his heir. A second son must find glory where he can."

Hypocrite. Either Tyrion or Stannis.

Tyrion doe to his "can you not see my inner beauty" spiel yet caustic judgements of women who are less than beautiful. He thinks others should be aware of his intelligence but others only have a sly cunning or are considered inept.

Stannis, for all his talk about duty abandons his brother and cheats on his wife.

Parasites. Hmm. Assuming the noble houses as a class are out Joffrey. Demands his due as king but doesn't pay for it in justice or working for the realm.

I agree wholeheartedly with you. Cersei is far and away the biggest hypocrite. She ignores Ned's pleas for her to run and save herself and her children. Instead she starts a war, inadvertantly true but she's still guilty, which costs the lives of thousands. All of these men and women die so she can protect HER own kids from a death she all but insured by not running. And in the end her children will probably die anyway and it will all have been for nothing.

And Littlefinger is by far the biggest piece of garbage in the whole story. Some characters are bad and do bad things, we find out why and although that doesn't justify it we understand their twisted motives. Littlefinger is just causing trouble and trying to gain status. He helped orchestrate a civil war just to move onto the society pages. Really Littlefinger, all this to impress a woman who clearly doesn't want you? What a loser.

yeah little finger is a parasite you give him anything he'll use you like a flea bottom. (you know the rest) the guy has no stance except the betterment of him. unreal from a reader aspect you know what you're gonna get once he's in the chapter. treachery and deceit. magnificent bastard.

But point is that she doesn't have to personally fight for Renly, she choose to. House Tarth has the duty to support him with troops, but that does not mean that it's heir/lord has to personally do so, and in Brienne's case it's even more apparent because of the expectations due to her gender. She personally choose to pledge herself to Renly's cause.
