Frank Fitzpatrick
Frank,It's a pet peeve.Which I can understand... to an extent. But everyone makes mistakes and it seems a bit mean and insensitive to pull people on them. English is my first language, and as I've stated, I wrote my previous post in a rush, but who is to say it is all of the other posters first language on here? It's the second time someone on this forum has made a point of pulling me on small, insignificant mistake. And to be honest, I think it is unnecessary and disheartening and makes you feel small as a person just because it is a pet hate of another person. It's like me walking up to someone I've never met and laughing at them because they're fat or unattractive. So congratulations, you have a better grasp of the English language. WrathOfTinyKittens
Scott,In your first sentence, the close quotes should be outside the punctuation. :P

Joe Abercrombie
Also, scot, I need to point out that it should surely be 'a "ly"' rather than 'an "ly"'. It's a pet peeve of mine.
Rhom
Well, you've now had your grammar corrected by a best selling international author. Scot, I hope you're happy now.
Ser Scot A Ellison
WotK,Scott,In your first sentence, the close quotes should be outside the punctuation. :PiPhone will not let me do that. It keeps adding a new period.Mr. Abercrombie,I submit to your superior knowledge of the English language. My wife, who's the real grammer nazi in my family, has previously explained the proper use of "a" versus "an".
Howdyphillip
Also, scot, I need to point out that it should surely be 'a "ly"' rather than 'an "ly"'. It's a pet peeve of mine. Joe, you should really capitalize Scot as a proper noun... It is not a pet peeve a mine, I just thought that I would throw my metaphorical penis in the English dick waving contest...
Ser Scot A Ellison
Actually, I think "an 'ly'" sounds better that "a 'ly'". I wonder if it is because "ly" with the heavy "y" sound sounds like a vowel?
MinDonner
Depends on whether you are saying "an EL WHY" or "a LY". Come on Scot, you are hardly the person to be criticising others for typos!
