littleayrastark
I don't think it is that big of deal since she isn't an important character in the books. And since they killed off all of Dany's handmaidens she needs a female character of similiar age to interact with. I'm not sure if Dany and Missandei will have a sexual relationship like Dany and Irri did or not. On one hand they could hardly pass up the chance to do it; boobs x2 plus girl on girl would fulfil the sex quota for an episode. But Dany and Irri's relationship is short lived and not of a lot of importance to Dany's character or story arc. Plus, I think the audience would just be annoyed with Dany when she drops M for Daario.

It would be such a tired cliche to have two attactive young women pretending to have sex with each other, to titillate the audience,
Lord of Cheese
So i wonder if Missandei will be one of the two that will have that 'it is known that you are a cow' argument over Daario. But wow what a woman!
BenBamBoo
It's a change that does not bother me much, to be honest. And the actress is OK. However, I fear that they'll go overboard using her for repetitive lesbian scenes with Dany. Too much of that would hurt Dany as a character, I'm afraid.I really hope they don't bother including this scene tbh. In the books you get a sense of her frame of mind and the confusion she is feeling. In the show it would just be thrown in there, with no real purpose to the storyline. Ferrum Aeternum
There's so much higher chance of getting a good actor if you aren't casting a child. D&D lucked out with several child actors but as good as Maisie Williams has been as Arya, she was found very late in the process and apparently no other girl had been close to her. It seems smart to make Missandei older since it's a far smaller role and less work can go into casting her. Nothing of real importance will change either and it will be easier to give her actions made by other characters in the books this way. This, and also child actors have restrictions on when and how long they can work, that adult actors do not have. So the change also makes sense from a purely practical standpoint. And yes, Nathalie Emmanuel is positively stunning, so there's that!

Damar
I didn't notice, or rather the opposite, I was very much noticing that Missandei was very grown up in this.
chris999
Not like anyone from pre-ADWD Dany ark matters anyway besides Dany herserlf, Jorah and Barristan. Don't get the hype over Dany's handmaidens and bloodriders, who do nothing in books and show both. Her Bloodriders are important, and they have important roles and scenes coming up not only in the books we know of, but also the coming books. I have a feeling that Dany will kill whichever Khal has found her at the end of ADWD and absorb his kalasar... meaning that her bloodriders will have a more important role over a much larger Khalasar. Petyr Stone
She replied to my tweet, so she's now my favourite actor/character on the show (yes, I'm that lame).
Buckwheat
I noticed that she is much older, and I do not like it. Missandei is one of my favourite side characters in the books because she is such a child. I fear that they only made her older for the purposes of the sex scene with Dany, which I wish they will not do, but I fear they did.Not like anyone from pre-ADWD Dany ark matters anyway besides Dany herserlf, Jorah and Barristan. Drogo_1
I too mislike the older Missandei, I do like the actress they chose but they should have left the role to a child.
Dragon Doll
I think she'll work out fine, but it is just the first episode. D&D killing irri and doreah dosen't bother me much, neither does Xaro being gone. Xaro plays a large part in Dany's story, but not everything can be from the book to screen. I can't recall any important scenes in the book involving them (Doreah and Irri), other than that particular scene you mentioned, just a lot of "it is known".Are we sure Xaro's really gone? Why wouldn't the writers want to put their own return-from-the-grave bit in the show. It would be a surprise the book-readers are less likely to pick up on.I really hope they don't bother including this scene tbh. In the books you get a sense of her frame of mind and the confusion she is feeling. In the show it would just be thrown in there, with no real purpose to the storyline.Yeah, it really will just make the show a needless porn-fest. boojam
I think it still amazes me that this 'aged up' thing comes up after three seasons , the actors are set , so far, to me, don't nothing jaring to the narrative. (Some think so, but I don't understand their arguments.)Anyway, 'aged' is an odd heading when Nathalie Emmanuel is 25 years old!
Khal Porno
I have mixed feelings about this. My first thought was she is hot upon seeing her. My second thought was "shit she is going to be stupid". This second thought was brought on by her response of 'Truly?". A younger Missanei asking this would have been more understandable, but it still wouldn't fit her character imo. For an older Missandei to ask this made me think that her character will play a lesser role and be far less impressive. This may not be the case at all but those were my thoughts. It was just a joke, and I'm sure one the writers thought was too good to miss. It really doesn't matter to her character either way, it's just supposed to be funny.
Khal Porno
I was actually a little dissapointed for two reasons.First, Missandei's cleverness is much more charming for the fact that she is just 10 years old. The innocent naivete behind some of her remarks, especially in her scenes with the Butcher in aDwD are so much better because a CHILD is capable of such cutting remarks!Second, Dany is being set up as the mother to all those slaves she frees That role would really be emphasized for the tv viewers if Missandei is a child. In the books we know that Dany sees herself like this because of her internal monologue. But we don't get that in the tv show. That's why I wish D&D had visually emphasized this roles that Dany takes on by keeping Missandei a child.Child actors grow up, as has been mentioned earlier. Also I don't think you need a blatant example to get across the idea that Dany sees herself as a mother to the slaves. And you always can go back and enjoy what is in the books. Abaddon
I don't think George writes children that well. They always come off as older to me. Don't get me wrong, I love the characters... they just seem more mature mentally than you would generally expect a child to be at the age they are supposed to be.I think the suggestion up above that one reason she might have been aged up is because it is very difficult to find child actors is a good one. Along those lines, I wonder if the need for the actor to learn Valyrian might have played a part. As natural as it comes across on-screen, I think it must take a huge amount of effort being able to 'learn' the lines and deliver them naturally, in character. It seems likely there is going to be a lot more Valyrian this season so that might have been another factor in aging up the actor.I don't think we're going to see a lesbian scene between them, personally. Tywin's bastard
I don't think George writes children that well. They always come off as older to me. Don't get me wrong, I love the characters... they just seem more mature mentally than you would generally expect a child to be at the age they are supposed to be.I'd say that two factors play in here. First of all the children we get to follow are extraordinary people, just as the other characters are. The story centers around people that have the ability to affect the world around them so the characters will be special. Therefor it's easy to say that these children are far ahead of the maturity curve. On top of that a medieval society didn't really treat children the way we do today. We can bring our children up more slowly since there's that period between childhood and adulthood called adolescence. There's no such thing in the medieval society, as soon as puberty hits you're an adult and need to have been prepared for that.
