LOL at the GRRM episode apparently containing the most massive plot deviation to date, at least per the synopsis.

A little? A LITTLE?!?!?!

Seven hells, some of you guys are way too forgiving with your opinions.

Also, I really don't know how I feel about those descriptions of those three eps. Some of these plots feel like they're moving way too fast, and others way too slow.

I'm reserving complete judgement until the season is done. You can give a more accurate assessment once the season is complete. Storm of Swords started off slow, so did this season. Overall it's been fine so far, but I have high expectations for the rest of the season.

I'm not a raving fan that defends everything about the show, but I've liked this season so far and I'm willing to bet the rest will be great too. D&D has repeatedly gone on the record saying that it's basically their dream to bring this book to life, and I'm sure they're giving it their all.

Oh dear, if Mel does tell Gendry about his true lineage, that is a MASSIVE deviation. I have a feeling that it would be something that's revealed to Gendry in the next book.

But since GRRM wrote the scene - a fact confirmed by Bryan Cogman on WiC - we can't really complain too much about it, can we. :)

Hey guys, something to consider:

If Mel is going to be going to the Riverlands... one of two things will happen:

1.) Arya will still be there, thus Mel will meet Arya. HOW, if in any way, could this change the show's events when they reach ADwD material and Mel begins seeing "arya on a horse" and all that?

OR

2.) Arya will be gone by then, but we'll still be following the brotherhood / mel / gendry. Could this mean we follow Brotherhood till the end of the season/Lady Stoneheart? Or perhaps that we'll follow the brotherhood until Mel leaves?

Just interesting things to speculate on.

I think this kind of statement is really unfair, because you're discounting the massive undertaking that this show is. As far as I can tell, as someone who follows this kind of thing and does freelance work in video, there's never been anything like it and I doubt there will be again.

Also the fidelity to the material is unprecedented. It's the most faithful book-to-screen adaptation I've ever seen.

I think the truth is that the things in the books that are most important to the producers (who are fans) have varying importance among other readers of the books (and judging from this forum alone, that variance is WIDE).

That's why you have some people on here who hate Catelyn and say she's a total bitch, whereas others love Catelyn and think she's a saint. Then Game of Thrones says she's kind of both and people flip out and say her character has been butchered, haha.

It's also possible she simply doesn't see Arya and doesn't realize she's there.

Or as has been speculated by others, instead of the fake Arya subplot, we'll get fake Sansa or the Boltons force Talisa to marry Ramsay.

Or it could be something else entirely. It will be interesting to see what they come up with.

I think it is a tease.... she will tell him something vague about his future. Otherwise it is bogus. Fee Fii foo Fum.... I smell the Kings blood yum yum. Mel does not have this power else they would not be able to pull the wool over her eyes with Val/Gillys babe

I'm really loving the tv Queen of Thorns aka Olenna Tyrell, she's exactly how I imagined her in the books they really picked her actress her perfectly. The only thing that annoyed me in that scene she had with Sansa is that they were being followed by Lannister men instead of Tyrell men. I was really looking forward to seeing how Highgarden/The Reach in general invaded KL and the court and in the books they used that specific scene with Sansa to show it as she's being escorted by Ser Loras. Yet in the tv show all I see are Lannister men which for some reason annoys the shit out of me lol.

I don't think Mel is sensing king's blood, but in fairness, they didn't pull the wool over her eyes. She knows Jon made the switch and calls him on it when they are having their conversation outside the wall. She let the baby go anyway

I have always wondered if Gentry is actually Cersi's and Robert's kid. If I remember correctly Cersi told Cat that she "lost" a child she had with Robert and I have always wondered if she really had a kid (Gentry) and lied about loosing him. She could have paid off the right people or just had them all killed.

No way Cersei might be a lot of things but she would bever abandon or kill her own child. As Tyrion once said Cersei's one redeeming quality is that she loves her children, if she had a son with Robert she would love him just as much as the rest of her children. Besides if Cersei had at least one true son of Robert's than her childs claim to the throne would have been secured.

Not necessarily. Mel can see Gendry in the flames and Stannis (who visited him with Jon Arryn) will either recognise the description or be shown the vision and point out that "hey that's my bro's bastard"

To be fair, if you really analyze Cersei(in the books, anyway), she clearly is lying to both herself and everyone else about loving her children and just uses them as puppets for her own power.

Sexing up in front of her son's corpse, keeping tommen from attending Small Council meetings, removing Joffrey from the battlefield, etc.

But that's irrelevant, if you want more on that, there's thirty pages of this discussion in the re-thinking Cersei thread. haha

THIS. Thank you, sir.

I adore the books but I understand the nitty gritty of what goes into a TV show. I'm not saying that because it takes a fuckton of work that viewers should "settle." Not at all. Sometimes I just think book readers get a little trigger happy. For people who've never read the books, the producers are building a bigass story, and it has to be more compact than the books. I apologize if I sound like I'm snarling at book readers--I'm not. I'm not keen on everything in the show. I just don't think changes are something to jump at until we've seen the bigger picture. Reeds, for instance. They work much better this season than they would have last season.

Personally, I think compacting Gendry with Storm is a marvelous idea. The actor who plays Gendry is good and it'll ensure he has more to do. I don't think Gendry learning his lineage makes a big difference. That's just me though. ^_^
