[BOOK SPOILERS] Nitpick without repercussion?

WTF Pod story...why even? I mean how...why....WTF? It was dumb enough to put it in once, and a horrible mistake to mention it again.

And I still hate Ros, because she's like a Mary Sue character who never belonged in the story to begin with. How are we supposed to think LF is dangerous when EVERYONE KNOWS every plan he has, and even "oh you came to the big city from the boondocks as a whore but 6 months later your the head madame at one of the most powerful men in the seven kingdoms brothel and so in the know that the head spymaster recruited you to **** someone in the executive production level of the show because that is the only reason for your continued existence...."

sorry, just got rambling there....

Heck, maybe the actor playing Pod is banging someone in the production staff too, and they thought it was so funny they insisted it become a plotline.

I really hate that they bring up the realistic and understandable point that they have to cut/edit things because showing them true to the books would take too long, only to waste time on inane bullshit that was never in the books and has little to no use for progressing the story even in the TV narrative.

Oh, and as much as I liked the scene between Varys and Tyrion looking down at the captured sorcerer I was shouting at the screen: Oh you don't know if the magic was real or what the voice was? I don't know, maybe you could ask the sorcerer if you ever found him...

Good point ;)

I liked the scene but it came out of a left field a little.

"Ah Tyrion! I was just about to tell you about when I was cut!"

It wasn't the story in and of itself that felt forced but I felt like it didn't come up organically.

I think the scene fit in pretty nicely by the time you got to the end of it. Tyrion is seeking revenge, and Varys displayed how revenge is sweetest when served up cold. It did seem odd at first, but when he pulled the cover off the box, it made perfect sense.

I could be wrong, but it seemed as though she was giving Jaime a taste of his medicine. I think it was supposed to be ironic in the sense that she wasn't being serious, illustrating how foolish his misogyny sounds. It did catch me off guard immediately though.

Yes, I thought that that was her intention.

I read somewhere that someone thought that was deliberate: Tywin correcting her, adding to the whole "not as smart as you think you are" thing.

Another moment to add to my favorite moments in this episode.

No one will probably agree with me, but I can't stand Lena Headey's portrayal of Cersei at all. It was a little bit better this episode, probably because I think the dialogue between her and Tywin in their made-up scene was pretty spot-on, but I just don't feel like the actress understands her at all. I know I'm in the huge minority since I don't even know anyone who feels this way, but for whatever reason her portrayal irks me.

I agree with you, especially this season. I picture cersei as so much more full of fight and conident (as false as it may be).

Thank you! I am so glad to see this mentioned this line that Brienne said to Jaime. I love the Brienne-Jaime story this season and the actors are perfect. But, the Brienne who had that very nice moment with Cat last season where she tells her that she has a "woman's courage" would not say something like this.

Also, now Ros, Varys and Olenna know that LF is interested in Sansa and was going to try and take her to the Eyrie. So, how are they going to handle the search for her after the purple wedding when Sansa completely disappears? I don't buy that absolutely no one, including Varys and Olenna, is going to wonder if LF took her and got her to the Eyrie somehow, especially after word starts to get out that LF's long lost daughter that nobody ever knew he has shows up with him there.

Otherwise, it was a great episode and I really enjoyed it.

I believe the reason she said "You sound like a bloody woman" is because in the previous episode when she asks him what he would do if he were a woman, Jamie replies "I would kill myself. Thank God I am not". So calling him a woman is probably the biggest insult she could have thrown at him. IMHO of course.

I haven't posted here this season because this thread hasn't been around. It's been the only thread for me the last 2 seasons. Not going to say too much, because basically everything worth bitching about in this episode has already been done. With that said, I absolutely agree about Lena. I've been saying this since season 1. Cersei isn't a soft-spoken monotone. Drives me crazy every time she..slowly...calmly...calculatingly...speaks. For this matter, most of the actors don't fit their roles. Whether it be a product of the acting, the change in storylines/motivations, or both. Jon Snow, Littlefinger, haven't liked the little that I've seen from Jojen or Meera, Tywin, Shae, Mance, Tormund, Stannis, Renly, Loras, Thoros (consolidation of characters), Sandor, "Yara"...hate them all. Beyond just not fitting the physical description, they just suck at playing otherwise interesting characters. It's one thing for an actor to make a character their own, but to change key components of what makes their character who/what they are...just frustrating and disappointing.

Okay, here goes.

Now usually I like Varys' scenes, in-fact he's one of my favorite characters in either the book or show. I also think Conleith Hill is incredibly talented, his scene with the QoT was brilliant...

But.

Didn't his speech about being cut seem a little... forced? I don't know what I was expecting from the scene but something about the way he delivered it just didn't sit well with me.

Yes! It was way rushed and way too.. CASUAL. It really bugged me.

I'm so curious to know how they will handle this. Naturally, DD will just make something up.

O yeah!

When the Seven Hells are the dragons going to get named!

I have no idea, but I completely forgot about the other two because they only ever show Drogon! WHY is CGI so expensive? Really, anyone who knows, please tell me.

I did get bored with Olenna in the middle of her third sentence :ninja:

Always chamberpots and roses :dunno:

Imagine you'd work for her and had to listen to that every day. Again and again. The scene inadvertedly got to be not about her sharp tongue and mind, but about a puffish. :P

Lol, your post made me laugh! The only funny thing she said was "What happens when the nonexistent bumps against the decrepit?" The rest of it I was kind of wishing for the main point of the conversation to be made. If I had to work for her I'd leave Highgarden entirely.

They missed a huge opportunity by not giving Mormont his last words. The writers grab onto every chance they can to have cheesy writing, so why they would decide not to let a man give his touching last words before he dies is beyond weird. It was a great opportunity because how else now are viewers going to be reminded that Jeor is Jorah's father? I know plenty of people who forgot/don't know that connection, and they could have placed it perfectly right here. If timed right, they could just cut to Jorah's face at the end of the scene to emphasize it. From Jeor to Jorah. What a missed opportunity. Shame.

I agree with everyone about Varys' story coming out of nowhere. Actually, it stuck out like a sore thumb. It was like, "yo sup tyrion let me tell you this story how I was cut." ?!?!?!?! Awkward writing, but Conleth Hill handled it well as usual.

I like Diana Rigg and looooveee QoT, but I don't know, I'm starting to find her irritating. She talks so much about farting and chamberpots and she's nothing like I really pictured personality-wise. I feel they dumbed her down because of the Dowager Countess.

Four whores thinking a virgin is so great that they get together and decide not to pay him is ludicrous...it's ludicrous with one whore - but four??? Come on...Littlefinger was "too distracted" to care about the whores not getting paid, yet scared the shit out of Ros last season for being a buzzkill for the customers. Sure, okay...what a trope....

It's annoying how much D&D love Ros, like she's the Daryl Dixon of ASOIAF or something. Her whole "moving up in the world" scene with Shae was idiotic and now she can read, is an executive assistant to a pimp and escorts him around town...wtf? How did this even happen???

Bran scenes are just pointless and I'm sick of seeing dead or soon to be dead Starks in his dreams.

I agree with you about Lena. Her portrayal is umm, well I think she's almost quite there but there's something missing about her. I can't quite pinpoint it. It was throughout S1 and most of S2... I'm only thinking she's improving because she's nailing Cersei's right amount of paranoia. My friend who has also read the books thinks she's pretty, but not pretty enough to play Cersei, and that the Queen of Westeros is supposed to be one of the most beautiful women as she was described in the books.

when I first saw the mutiny at CK, I didn't have much thought on it because I was so caught up in the moment. But it was very messily done.. i watch the show with my bf who isn't a bookie and he thought the entire NW just turned evil and crazy and I had to explain that only a few of them turned crazy. And they just stabbed Mormont and left him there... no Sam talking to him, no last words, nothing. The non bookies don't even know that Jeor is Jorah's dad but I guess DD doesn't care. And no raven! My Old Bear deserved better :(

Dany, oh Dany! Amazing scene. My favorite scene from the whole series. But WHY hasn't she changed her clothes?? It didn't bug me last eppy when she wore the same outfit for a second eppy in a row, but it bugged me this time. Third episode, and a huge moment for her. They couldn't be bothered, they just threw a cape over her :(

And I'm also sick of Bran's dreams too and Jojen obsessing about them. I did not like Bran's chapters and his screen time is boring me too. Even thought the tv Reeds are way cooler than the book Reeds. They were just strange!

Just like Stephen Dillane's portrayal of Stannis, I think Lena's portrayal of Cersei is the right way to go. If she acted just like Cersei does in the books, she would just seem ridiculous, like an evil queen out of a children's movie. Rather than having Cersei being fiery and so blatantly awful, I feel it's more realistic if her demeanour is just ice-cold and bitter, rather than "MWUHAHAHAHA LOOK HOW EVIL I AM". It works for Joffrey, because he's a little brat, but it just wouldn't translate as well on the screen for Cersei, a more developed and well-rounded character. In the same way, if Dillane was as grouchy as book Stannis, and just kept hissing and snapping and glaring every single moment, it would look silly. I really dig the gritty attitude he displays while playing Stannis.

I don't even really find TV!Cersei that bitter and ice cold. She seems more like a troubled mother who is scared of her son with a mean streak in her, and that's what the actress thinks as well. Like when she got all shaken up over Joffrey killing the bastards (when she did it herself in the books). I don't think she ever really acts all "MWUHAHA EVIL" when she walks around in the books....those are usually thoughts in her head. She puts on an icy front.

I agree with FierceElite about her monotonous, calculated voice.

I know they're on a tight budget but even so, I thought the action scenes were horrible. At least two NW brothers just stood there while everyone was dying. That and they could've had a few more slavers around to make Dany's victory look a bit more compelling.

.

Always an issue. They to get the guys who do the figh choreography for the vikings.

Id also say we sbould talk about the pod scene a d thevarys scenein this thread. Those trainwrecks cant be nitpicked

I'm so glad to see how many other people find the Pod scenes a horrible waste of time. At first I thought it was cute, but then....ridiculous and pointless. Is it supposed to be some sort of mystery? They're leaving out key scenes to include these, and it hurts the show.

I agree with what's been said about Margaery being in it entirely too much - what's the point? We already know she's playing Joff like a pro, and even that isn't important to the plot at this point.

He's about to be murdered off, so why don't we just wait for the wedding feast? We just need to see her show up at the wedding. And, speaking of that, when are they going to do the Sansa hairnet thing? Anyway, Margaery's 'wiles' aren't really needed until much later when she's wed Tommen and the whole thing with Cercei unraveling had started. We've got plenty of time to get there.

I also don't know why all of the Theon story line is coming out now. They're making him one of the very main characters, just like they are Margaery, and that's not the story that the books tell. Besides,

part of the shock value of finding Reek in ADWD is that we haven't seen him for a long time. Then we do see him all of a sudden and he's unrecognizable, trying to kill a rat for food.

Oh...and I agree with what's been said about the Varys scene being a little wierd and not essential to the story line. If the message to Tyrion was to "Wait patiently, your time for revenge will come", then IMHO it could have been conveyed much more efficiently. Varys is such a super character, I really like him, and I think he's been vastly under-used. A waste of a good resource.

I didn't realize I had so many little gripes until I started this post. But....I agree with what someone said about D and D perhaps taking this and turning it into their own story, nor GRRM's.

Well, they need to show exactly how Theon turns into Reek. The books have the benefit of inner monologue, the show doesn't. Plus, it would be far more effective to show, rather than tell the viewer about Theon's torture. If they do things right, hopefully, they have one flaying scene which is absolutely brutal to watch, and then don't show Theon until the scene where he eats a rat.
