"Robert Baratheon, black of hair. Joffrey Baratheon, golden haired."

The Baratheon black hair gene was a big plot point in season one, and yet somehow Show!Shireen has blonde hair just like Joffrey.

Maybe so the lannisters can start their rumour soon that stannis didn't father shireen, if both stannis n Robert's kids have blonde hair.

Wavering between 8 and 9. On the one hand no wow moments, but on the other, some very good interplay between characters.

Beric/Hound was very well choreographed, a fight with a flaming sword can end up looking very clumsy but they dealt with it very well.

Karstark execution was perfect in every way.

Jaime's story and its deliverance was phenomenal.

Very interesting that they've decided to include Selyse and Shireen, and the former was sufficiently creepy. We'll see where this goes.

Tywin/Tyrion/Cersei was maybe the highlight of the episode for me, and they've done well not to overcomplicate that particular arc.

My major problem with this episode was Jon's arc, which I feel has been very poorly handled this season (once again). I felt like he folded way too easily, and it would have meant more if Ygritte had been trying to seduce him throughout most of this season rather than last. The whole scene felt rushed, and it was pretty ridiculous how close the hot water spring was to the mouth of the cave.

Also really liked the little moment between Gendry and Arya, I've really enjoyed Arya's humanisation in this season.

8/10. Can't believe they left out one of the Hound's best lines thrown at the BWB during their pre-fight Lord of Light, night is full of terros spiel:

"This cave is dark too, but I'm the only terror here". Still, loved the fight between Sandor and Beric.

Would have rated the episode higher but some things jarred with me. Jon and Ygritte scene felt uncomfortably forced, the babies in the jars scene was just...weird and am still deciding what to think about the Loras/squire surprise.

Loved the whole Tywin, Cersei and Tyrion scene.

Great episode, only very minor nitpicks.

They picked such a little gem for Shireen it's such a shame they've taken 1 1/2 seasons to introduce her. Excellent fan service with Jon/Ygritte, Brienne/Jaime, Berric/Sandor.

Selyse is well cast and well played.

I gave it an 8.

I am absolutely loving anything to do with Jaime and Brienne this season. Amazing!

I love Jon & Ygritte

Kings Landing was spot on - from Tywin to QoT to all of them

I am also enjoying the build-up of Robb's story.

The Hound and Beric fight was awesome. My hubby was really into that one.

My only sticking point is the development of Stannis' story. I'm not sure I like how Stannis and his family are being portrayed. Shireen is fine, she is really sweet but it gave the impression that she is imprisoned in her own home, which was creepy. And I didn't really like Selyse having the babies in jars ala the Governor on TWD. I guess D&D interpret Stannis much differently than I do upon reading him.

I'm also still waiting for Tormund to be Tormund.

I, for one, am fine with this interpretation of Selyse and Shireen as I found them to be utter throw-aways in the book. This gives them at least a little bit of personality. A nice touch. That scene with Davos and Shireen was one of the few scenes in this series which I would call "precious".

Shireen's very affecting in the novels, in the ACoK and ASoS chapters where she's featured, IMO. In fact, I would have liked if the show had retained more of her sadness. She leads such an utterly lonely existence, with two emotionally distant parents and no siblings, only a mad old fool for a friend. They've made her seem a bit more happy-go-lucky, so to speak, less affected by these things.

Interesting. Since I never found either of them to be anything more than background noise as Stannis' unwanted distractions. Not to mention Patchface usually stole the (freak)show whenever those scenes presented themselves. Speaking of, thank christ there's no Patchface and they've given the song to Shireen. That might be the first time a character in a book had been able to physically upset me every time he appeared.

I'd rather see Selyse and Stannis gorging on their pickled babies for dinner after barbecuing them in Mel's fires than have that creepy fucker Patchface on my TV screen. His scenes are some of the few times in the series where I actually feel creeped out.

Great episode and they managed to pack in some scenes without it seeming rushed or hard to take in. Its not an episode I'll watch again for a while since after the opening fight scene there wasn't any real wow moments. I guess we got to spoiled last episode with crazy twists.

"And Now His Watch is Ended" had a really terrific finale, and the Old Bear's death, but if you look at what came before closely, it wasn't that far above an average episode. It was elevated by the finish.

It was, but even without the finish (if that were even possible) it would've still been a solid 9 in my book because it kept me entertained long before we reached that point, and you can't discard parts of the episode, or you'd have to do that here, too. People wouldn't be speaking praise about the entire episode or give a 10 just for 'Dracarys.' Let's make this easy though: they were both terrific.

Jon and Ygrittes relationship feels so rushed and the story feels clunky. I knew that going into the second book some storylines would suffer. Aside from the Godfather adaptations are never as good as the source. I think it hurts more because I am partial to Jon. If Dany or Tyrion or some other characters story had gone this way it would have stung me less.

Again, very much enjoyed this one. Lightning Lord VS The Hound was so epic. Thoros was very good, I forgot how I imagined him but he's doing a very good job. Ygritte and Jon Snow's scene in the cave was done with finesse. I liked that it didn't look like porn, just some nice sexy time. I like what they did with Robb in this episode, you'd feel kind of excited about his plans (if only the non-readers know hehe). I'm really glad they've included Shireen in the show so when we finally get to see her when Stannis visited Selyse and her, i'm like "Shireen!" And of course, Tywin commanding his children. Classic.

PS. Shireen's song at the end was creepy.

Gave this episode a 10 (although I was thinking to give it just a 9, but I thought "What the heck, I've enjoyed it so here's a 10")

9/10 Loved it!!

I'm really surprised by all the 'Loras loved Renly' stuff. Sure he did... but Renly has been dead for a very long time now in the story. I've read the books several times and sure, we knew there was love there but really??? Loras is a minor character since Renlys death. Loras always bored me.

And honestly- it's not him having sex with a squire that bothered me, it's his betrayal of the Tyrell plans for Sansa that I didn't like. Let the kid get some action now... he's not going to be pretty forever!!! ;)

I do like the comment up thread about Loras running to take the White now that Cersei is his future!! That ties that up nicely actually.

Previous to this, the only season three episode I liked was last week's, and that was due to bad-ass Daenerys taking Astapor and leaving with hr new army and her teenage dragons. I gave that one a solid 7.

This one was a 9..! I am so relieved, I hope season three has picked up steam now, and am looking forward for the latter half of this year's show.

That being said, I can forgive Loras' portrail due to the fact there was some gay sex on screen for a change. Ah! (lol)

Loved Shireen / Davos stuff, the babies-in-a-jar was terrific. Ditto for the wildling's, and Jon and Y's love scene.

All and all, the season is finally living up to its legacy. Pity it took 5 episodes.
