Are we ever going to meet Wendel Manderly?

The casting said that he'd appear in episode 4 or 5 this season, but he wasn't in either. Maybe his introduction is one of the scenes that got moved around? Hopefully we meet him in episode 6 so that his character can built up for the RW. Also it would give us a nice introduction to House Manderly.

Anguy is going to be killed by Sandor...

Agreed, or at least get wounded. In the trailers, there is a recurring shot of an angry hound swinging his sword, in day time, in a wood just like the one seen in this promo. I imagine at least one member of the BwB will be on the receiving end.

I don't think The Hound is nabbing Arya until episode 8. I think they'll keep her around for Mel's visit. Also consider that they need to make Arya/Hound last all the way through next season. They're not going to squeeze one and a half seasons worth of material out of this pairing. They'll save filler "walking about" scenes for s4.

Halfway through S4 she'll be on a boat to Braavos and she will train for 1.5 seasons, then in the last 2 episodes of S5 we'll see what the next step is. That will include part of WoW.

I think that the battle for Castle Black will be a centrepiece of S4 (D&D have already said it will be a larger endeavor than Blackwater) so I think Jon's story this season probably ends with him returning to Castle Black in time to see the armies amassing in preparation for the battle. I'm still not sure how they will depict what happens with the Wildling group he's with South of the Wall. They will definitely have him escaping from Queenscrown but I'm not sure if they'll have a follow-up where they have to fight them off at Castle Black. There are shots in trailers of Jon looking up at what is assumed to be Orell's eagle coming down to attack him but I'm not sure where this is taking place. I'm also assuming that Ygritte (and Orell) will die in the finale but they could do this in a number of ways. I also think that Tormund will find a way to escape this battle and get back over the Wall (either by scaling it the way they came) or by using the secret tunnels the NW use at Castle Black. The battle there I believe will be not nearly at the same scale as it was in the books because I think they're going to leave the big stuff there for the following season.

Seems like a reasonable prediction. If I read you correctly, you are predicting that the first CB skirmish (in which Ygritte dies in the books) may be siginificantly changed. In terms of TV exposition, I wonder if it would take too much time to show how Tormund gets back over the wall. They may very well just have him captured and sit out the Battle at Castle Black.

Really curious to see what will happen of Tormund !

As for Orell, I think he's a goner this season...

From the promo, there is this shot at Queescrown, under the rain, falling down on Jon as he watches up... I'm ready to bet it is the eagle attack. And we have seen Kit Harrington with face scars during interviews !

But I could be wrong about Orell dying this season and maybe he'll die alongside Ygritte at the first battle of CB if there is one... and maybe he'll die alongside his eagle, killed by Melissandre during the big battle.

I'm really not sure how they would dramatize the skirmish with the Wildlings with Jon south of the Wall. I am certain it's not going to be the scale that's depicted in the books and I'm not even sure it will take place at Castle Black. Orell is more or less taking the place of the Magnar of Thenn (just with Varamyr's warging abilities included) and he'll be positioned as Jon's main antagonist. I'm sure the eagle attack on Jon will happen in the climax of his story this season (which I don't think is Queenscrown, that's earlier) and I think that's where Jon will kill Orell. How Ygritte would die if it's not attacking Castle Black, I'm not sure. I don't think they'd have Jon kill her. So it's probable that there is some kind of encounter between everyone when Jon has reinforcements which would have to be Castle Black.

As far as Tormund goes, I could see them leaving his fate a mystery until the following season, where it's shown how he was able to get back to the Wildling camp with Mance. Or, as someone else has mentioned, they could have him captured and hanging around in the cells in Castle Black next season until Jon takes over and ends up releasing him in order to convince the Wildlings to come over peacefully. It could allow him to have more screentime and the ability to interact with Jon occasionally too.

It may not be next episode as Roose doesn't say it when having dinner with Jaime and Brienne. He says it a bit later when Jaime and him are on the road together. But yes, it had better be in at some point.

Not accurate. Roose says it when Jaime is leaving with Steelshanks Walton to be escorted back to King's Landing. At that point (or close to it), Roose is also leaving separately with his own men to the Twins for the RW. They are never on the road together.

I hate that this exchange & the dinner scene makes some book readers argue that Jaime was "in" on the RW, so part of me wishes they would leave it out, as a Jaime fangirl. However, it is probably important to his future storyline with Brienne and Lady Stoneheart, so I bet they'll leave it in.

Btw, anyone else reckon that Sam will stab a walker this episode?

My opinion was that Rast would take the role of Small Paul. So he gets killed at the mutiny and comes back for Sam, like he said he would.

As for jojenseizure, it could be that they're moving up Bran's humanwarging. And instead of having him do it to Hodor, they're having him do it to Jojen so Jojen can tell him it's an abomination

Found it!

I am pretty sure Anguy didn't die in the books, but they have been building up his and the Hound's relationship quite a bit.

Yeah, the Hound and Anguy seem to have a "relationship" build over the past episodes !

I expect a : "There you go, archer ! Will those arrows save your arse now ?"

I imagine it will be quit an intimate killing, where he looks straight into Anguy's face while he kills him. Also they seem to have built up the Hound's hate for archers, remember at the Blackwater when he threatened that archer? I think I am almost certain he is going to kill Anguy, and I really like Anguy.

That has to do with his hatred for fire. It was subtle.

As always, some great speculation going on about what we know and what we think will happen this week. Enjoyable reading, guys!

My thoughts:

King’s Landing:

Synopsis: “Tywin plans strategic unions for the Lannisters.”

Promo: Olenna snapping Tywin’s quill in half. Varys and Littlefinger circling one another.

Recap Video: Tywin ordering Tyrion and Cersei to marry Sansa and Loras, respectively.

Speculation: Littlefinger will speak with Varys in the throne room and we’ll get what’s sure to be a gem of a scene where the two deconstruct one another’s machinations and snipe at one another in their typical loving manner. In keeping with the title of the episode, this seems a prime opportunity for Littlefinger to deliver his “Chaos is a ladder … the climb is all there is,” speech that ran in one of the previews. Then he’ll (finally) leave for the Eyrie.

In another scene that’s certain to be stellar, Tywin will sit down with Olenna for the scene that we saw in the New Characters video (Tywin: “I don’t care what other people think – and neither do you.”/Olenna: ”As an authority on myself, I have to disagree.”) He’ll declare his intentions to marry off Tyrion and Sansa (thus putting Olenna in at a rare disadvantage) before offering up Cersei as a bride for Loras. What will be interesting is to see how Olenna responds. In the books, she’s the one who torpedoes the proposed Cersei/Willas union after Mace is receptive to it. Since Mace isn’t a factor here, it remains to be seen if Olenna refuses the Cersei/Loras match outright or if she decides to play along.

I expect that Cersei and Loras will be betrothed, if only for a short time. It would provide context for the scene where Loras storms away from Margaery and Olenna at the dinner table. Furthermore, Lena Headey mentioned in an interview with EW (link: http://insidetv.ew.c...es-lena-headey/) that Cersei and Tyrion find a kind of common ground this season, likely do to their shared misery at being forced to marry people that they don’t want to marry. Therefore, another strong candidate scene for this episode is the conversation between Cersei and Tyrion that was glimpsed in the trailers.

Tyrion: “How long does it go on?”

Cersei: “Until we’ve dealt with all of our enemies.”

Tyrion (bitterly): “Seven kingdoms united in fear of Tywin Lannister.”

As for how this whole mess will resolve, we’ll have to wait a week. Given the episode 7 synopsis (‘Tywin counsels the king’), I strongly suspect that either Margaery or Cersei will lean on Joffrey to appoint Loras to the kingsguard next week, thus screwing up Tywin's strategy and giving him even more incentive to chastise his impetuous grandson.

Finally, as Newstar mentioned, Sansa shows up in a promotional still this episode, so she’ll probably learn that Loras is off the table and Tyrion has taken his place. Cue her expected dismay. She runs to try and find Littlefinger before he leaves, but it's too late.

Jaime and Brienne

Synopsis: “Roose Bolton decides what to do with Jaime Lannister.”

Promo: Jaime and Brienne having dinner with the Leech Lord. Brienne reaches for a knife, Jaime stays her hand.

Recap Video: Locke presents Jaime and Brienne to Roose. Roose tells his men to find rooms for their ‘guests’.

Speculation: Roose Bolton hosts Jaime and Brienne for dinner, and we start to get the first hints at his traitorous intentions. This scene will likely be lifted directly from the book, with a few minor alterations (it looks like they’re giving the whole ‘knife through the eye’ threat to Brienne rather than Jaime, which somewhat fits with her more aggressive demeanor in the show). Given that the showed Roose and Karstark together back in the first episode, I wonder if we’ll get a scene before the dinner where Roose learns of Karstark’s execution, or if he’ll just drop that knowledge during the dinner itself.

After Bolton gets assurances from Jaime that he won’t be held responsible for Locke’s actions by Tywin, he decides to let Jaime continue on to King’s Landing (Jaime won’t actually depart until next week, however). Brienne is informed that she will remain behind as Locke’s ‘prize’.

Jon and the Wildlings

Synopsis: “Jon, Ygritte and the Wildlings face a daunting climb.”

Promo: Jon and Ygritte stare up at the Wall. Tormund counsels Jon about how to approach the climb. Jon and the Wildlings scaling the Wall.

Recap Video: Orell and Tormund pressing Jon for information about the Night’s Watch.

Speculation: In the New Character video both Kristofer Hivju and Kit Harrington hint at the growing level of friendliness and respect between Tormund and Jon. Having Tormund give Jon a pre-climb pep talk will be a good way to illustrate that relationship. Ygritte and Jon will have a little post-coital flirting, and Orell will continue to be openly suspicious.

As per the title (and to the surprise of absolutely no one), Jon and the Wildlings will then scale the wall.

Robb and Catelyn

Synopsis: “Robb weighs a compromise to repair his alliance with House Frey.”

Promo: Robb treating with Lame Lothar and Black Walder.

Recap Video: Robb executing Karstark, then forming the plan to win back the Freys and attack Casterly Rock.

Speculation: The first scene will probably be Robb reconciling with Catelyn to a small degree and filling her in on his new strategy. This scene was featured in the pre-season trailers. (Robb: “Take his home, take his gold, take his power. If we don’t do this and do it now, we’re lost.” Catelyn: “Show them how it feels to lose what they love.”) Then Robb will parley with the Freys and hear the proposed terms for their reconciliation. The final scene with this group of characters will likely be Robb, Catelyn, and the Blackfish press-ganging Edmure into marrying the Frey girl ‘as amends’ in order to secure the alliance.

Arya, the Hound, Melisandre, and the BWB

Synopsis: “Melisandre visits the Riverlands.”

Promo: Beric in the cave (sans eyepatch). Arya practicing archery in the woods with Anguy, then warning him “There’s someone out there.”

Recap Video: The Hound defeats Beric in the trial by combat. Thoros resurrects Beric for the sixth time.

Speculation: Melisandre shows up to parley with the Brotherhood. We’ll get the scene from the New Character video where Melisandre examines Beric’s scars, then glances over at Thoros with a look on her face that says “What the hell have you done?” This will probably be bracketed around a discussion between the two Red Priests and their differences in philosophy concerning service to R’hllor. It remains to be seen how Melisandre approaches her objective of collecting Gendry. Does she openly ask the Brotherhood to hand him over? Does she approach him directly and entice him to join her? Or does she steal him away through trickery? That may not come a head in this episode - we know from the synopsis for “The Bear and the Maiden Fair” that Melisandre will reveal Gendry’s royal parentage to him next week (and judging by the trailers, she’ll be revealing a lot more than that). ;)

As for Arya, there’s no indication that she’s present at the cave when Melisandre shows up (and she already more-or-less said goodbye to Gendry last week). So maybe Beric and Thoros entrusted Anguy to bring her to Riverrun and ransom her. While they’re off in the woods, the Hound attacks. I agree with what Cellio, Rabid Grunt, and several others on this topic have been discussing– it’s a good bet that they’ll pay it off the antagonism that they’ve built up between Anguy and the Hound by having the Hound either kill or seriously injure Anguy before he captures Arya.

Theon

Synopsis: Nothing

Promo: Ramsay torturing Theon and having quite a bit of fun doing so. “If you think that this story has a happy ending, then you haven’t been paying attention.”

Recap Video: Ramsay tricking Theon back into his cell.

Speculation: Clearly, Theon is going to be checking in to a world of pain this week. The flaying will start. Would they go so far as to depict what most readers have inferred – that Ramsay castrates Theon as well? I wouldn’t put it past the writers, but we’ll see.

It’ll be interesting to see what if anything Ramsay reveals about himself during these scenes. Given that the Jaime/Brienne/Roose storyline will end with Roose deciding to let Jaime go, it’ll become clear to the non-readers this week that the Boltons are serious players worth keeping an eye on. Could the writers time that development to coincide with the reveal of Ramsay’s true identity, or will they save that for later in the season and pair it with Roose's final betrayal? I honestly have no idea.

Stannis and Davos

Synopsis: Nothing

Promo: Nothing.

Recap Video: Stannis seeing Melisandre off as she leaves for the mainland.

Speculation: Stannis and Davos won’t appear this week. Stannis’s presence in the recap video is likely incidental to reminding us what Melisandre is up to.

Sam and Gilly

Synopsis: Nothing.

Promo: Nothing.

Recap Video: The Mutiny at Craster’s Keep. Sam and Gilly fleeing into the woods.

Speculation: Not really sure what to expect here. Maybe we finally see Sam the Slayer (though there was no hint of the White Walker in the promos for this week) or maybe Sam and Gilly are stalked by Rast and the mutineers. There’s a possibility that these events could be folded together somehow – say Rast hunts Sam and Gilly, the White Walker kills Rast, and then Sam kills the White Walker? Or it could just be Sam and Gilly acting scared and angsty together in the woods and exchanging awkward flirtations. I don’t really know how they’ll pace this story out until Coldhands shows up in Episode 8.

The big argument against the Slayer scene happening this week is that I'm almost positive that the people who make the recap video would go out their way to remind us about Sam, Grenn, and Edd finding the obisidian daggers last season. That's the kind of quick, out-of-place scene that you can't expect the casual viewing audience and non-readers will remember.

Bran and the Reeds

Synopsis: Nothing.

Promo: Jojen having some kind of epileptic seizure while Meera cradles his head. Osha and Hodor make an appearance.

Recap Video: Bran and Jojen discuss the Three-eyed Raven and the Greensight.

Speculation: Same drill as last week. At some point they need to start fleshing out the Reeds as characters rather than just having Bran chase the Three-Eyed Raven across the dreamscape with Jojen as his spirit guide. That will probably happen this week. Jojen having a seizure fits with his previously-discussed frailty and should give Meera some nice, protective material to play.

Daenerys

Synopsis: Nothing

Promo: Nothing

Recap Video: Nothing

Speculation: Dany will not be in this episode. In the interview with Bryan Cogman that ran over on WinterIsComing.net (link: http://winteriscomin...d-renlys-peach/), Cogman mentioned that the scenes with Daenerys that ran in Episode 5 were originally scripted by Benioff and Weiss for Episode 6, only to get moved forward into Episode 5 during pre-production. Now that Dany has had her facetime with Grey Worm, there really isn’t anything for her to do until she shows up at Yunkai in Episode 7, as per the synopsis for ‘The Bear and the Maiden Fair’.

IIRC, the actor playing the WW appears in a Michelle McLarren episode, so Slayer scene in episode 7 or 8 (I'd bet 7) : so I guess episode 6 will just see them wandering in the woods, cold and starving and maybe arriving at a deserted town (White Tree ?).

It sure will be Polliver (and other guys) Arya and Sandor will meet in the inn ! Polliver still has Needle !

I guess we will see Arya and the Hound make their way to the twins during episode 7 and 9 (maybe cut her out of episode 8).

Then maybe (maybe) show her in episode 10 if they want to reassure the watchers that she is alive.

Then I would wager the Inn scene to be around episode 3 or 4 of season 4.

Her departure to Braavos in episode 7 of season 4.

Her arrival there in episode 9 of season 4.

It wouldn't be a huge deal if Arya left for Braavos in the beginning of season 4. Once she's in Braavos they can just invent scenes as they like to fill out time. It's an entirely new city-state and a new culture to explore, and the more time spend there the better. Bran's story is gonna be a fucking nightmare after this season though, seeing as how he only got a couple of people to interact with and thus inventing scenes for him will be a pain in the ass.

As for Bran, I'm quite sure they'll fill the seasons with backstory and exposition (Rhaegar, Rebellion, etc...) until he meets Bloodraven by the end of season 4 (I could see Bran's finale in season 4 be his meeting with him).
