[BOOK SPOILERS] Episode 6 Preview

the main thing that remains to happen at Dragonstone is Davos reading the letter... maybe this "proof" thing is the dialogue between them two in the dungeons. But I had hoped Stannis to release him before this episode...

Maybe Davos will discover the letter in episode 9, be released shortly afterwards and read it to Stannis in episode 10 (I'm quite sure this arc will end with the letter, logical choice).

Is there any letter though? Samwell's failure to send any was highlighted in the very first episode. Perhaps they're waiting for Sam or Jon to get back to Castle Black and send off letters - and that leads to Davos's reading practice. I suppose it'd make dramatic sense for Sam to rush back, desperate to finally accomplish what Mormont had asked.

On the other hand, the TV show kind of dropped the ball on making Jon's "defection" remotely convincing to the Wildlings, so maybe the letters will be a magical device to be later explained by Bran time travelling back in Season 7 or something.

It could also be a letter sent by Aemon Targaryen. Like talking about dead things coming back to life or the fact that he has no news of the Great Ranging, etc...

My predictions:

-Robb learns of the Frey marraige proposal, he convinces Edmure to agree, they head out.

-Jon's group of wildlings climb the Wall, he has an angry confrontation with Orell.

-Melisandre convinces Gendry to come to Dragonstone after facing off with Thoros.

-Jaime and Brienne dine with Lord Bolton, Brienne learns she will be given to Locke.

-Jojen reveals Osha must leave with Rickon, Osha reluctantly agrees.

-Sansa learns of her upcoming marraige, she confides in Margaery.

-Baelish leaves for the Vale, Tyrion learns Bronn is accompanying him.

I think Bran's story will be a little different in how Osha leaves, and I think Bronn will come with Baelish to the Vale. That way, once Sansa gets there, we will see a familiar face, and since Marillion is gone from the show, he can be the one who gets framed for killing Lysa.

Anybody else think that's a good idea?

Bronn is still needed in Kings Landing. He's always been Tyrions man an the fact that Cersei makes him a Lord so that he refuses to champion Tyrion's trial by combat should make for interesting TV.

Mormont has been sending letters ever since the first wights attack. I believe in the book, it's even said that the letter Davos is reading is very old. His old Hand decided it wasn't important enough to trouble Stannis about. So, most likely, Davos will be attempting to read some book to Shireen and the letter will fall out.

It could work - it just seems odd that the season opened with emphasis placed on the letters, and Mormont's none-too-rousing cry that they have to warn the south: they planted the seed that no one knows what's coming. Maybe that was planting a seed that'll be important later, or maybe it means nothing.

In the book (looking at it right now), the letter Davos reads is from the Wall: it says that Mormont had sent a raven when under attack in "the haunted forest", and that they haven't heard anything since and "fear Mormont slain with all his strength". Curiously (and probably sensibly from Castle Black's perspective), that letter mentions nothing of white walkers, but rather just "a vast host of wildlings". I'm not sure how the TV show will handle it, but they certainly can't handle it exactly the same way.

I hope not. There's a certain point where it just becomes gratuitous and literal Torture Porn to no real gain. After the gruesome scene with Jaime's stump in episode 5, though, I think we might actually see some flaying or similar on-screen. Eugghh. It's a little early for Theon to "learn his name", though.

I don't see how rape is more gratuitous than castration, tbh, and it could portray a similar level of brokenness / not feeling like a "man" / etc. I agree there will be flaying ... they have definitely pumped up the Bolton sigil too much to let that go, lol.

Will definitely see-

Climbing the Wall.

Robb and some nasty wee Freys

Roose, Jaime and Brienne

Jojen losing his s**t

Melisandre with the brotherhood

Ramsay and Theon (Although I doubt he'll be revealed by name yet. It wouldn't surprise me if his name is mentioned by someone else though.)

Something to do with Sam, I doubt there will be slaying just yet but I'm curious to see what's in store next.

Usual King's Landing hulabaloo. I really hope they don't make the QoT make Tywin look like an idiot though.

The Dragonstone crew and Dany will take the bench this episode.

So far every episode has been better than the last. I get the feeling this pattern will continue :)

I feel like I am probably the only person who said, "Yay! Black Walder and Lame Lothar" out loud. I have this very weird fascination with the Freys. I love how there are so many of them but they are all bad and icky in their own unique way (or at least a lot of them).

Yes! We've defo got Black Walder, who bumps off his relatives, and Lame Lothar who plans the RW with Roose. Would be great to see Walder Rivers for the attack on the camps, Merrett in ep310 and maybe even Hosteen/Aenys too.

The weird fascination can extend to all cool villains (inc. Roose) especially when you know what they're about to do and can't wait to see them do it!

I thought it was cool to see them, too. Especially with them looking, as someone else so aptly put it, "so perfectly weaselly and Frey-ish."

I'm not sure how they could work it into the show with everything else going on but Bronn's lordship + naming his kid Tyrion just to piss Cersei off and everything that happens as a result was one of my favorite things about AFFC.

Yes, they got the Frey look down pat, it seems. Interested to see what Roslin Frey will look like.

What the heck is Arya gonna do next season? It's too bad she likely not get to spend much time with the Brotherhood.

Probably small snippets of her journey to Braavos? Can't see her being a major storyline in season 4 but I could see some of her AFFC stuff moved forward a bit at least the journey & arrival without getting too much into the House of Black & White - just speculation on my part as I doubt they'll have enough material from ASOS alone unless they were to add something as opposed to strategically introducing a few AFFC/ADWD storylines in the fold (Bran & Arya mainly and those two subsequent journeys).. obviously you'd expect the stuff at the Wall as well as Tyrion's escape to feature towards the end of season 4.

However they could, like you say, just make her role very minor and drag out her & Sandor traveling to the Saltpans with their encounter with Polliver/whoever else? being a highlight of it along with the Hound croaking.

I personally don't want to see in graphic detail Theon geting flayed or worse castrated. I really wonder how long they will spend on that since he isn't even revealed to be alive untill ADWD. Hopefully they will at least mix it up with more mental torture than just physical torture. I don't want it to turn into saw.

Arya won't be traveling to Braavos before the finale of the fourth season. Bet on it. Ultimately, I don't think the Hound has a major part to play going forward in this story, so I can definitely see the relationship between the two of them being given both more time and more circumstance (perhaps they'll transpose some of the skipped material from Arya's early chapters of ACoK). The dam will break when Arya kills Polliver at the inn, in her first instance of willfully murdering someone (which will be very cathartic for both the audience and the character, given everything she has had to endure). When Arya chooses to leave the Hound to die, it will probably be the last time we see his character, so I'd expect them to play that whole scenario up. It wouldn't make sense for the production team to dedicate any of their resources to designing or building Braavos, and it works as such a perfect cap to her story line up to that point to have her decide to leave Westeros and train with the Faceless Men (though the non-reader audience wouldn't be entirely sure about where she's going or what she's going to do when she gets there). If they just plow through with her story line, where does her arc end in season four? And where does it begin in season five? And end?

I think they'll play up Arya/The Hound for the opposite reason. I think he is going to have a major part to play in The Winds of Winter. Which actually raises the Theon issue - what are they going to do with him during the two seasons they are likely going to have to devote to AFFC and ADWD?

Edit: That's a rhetorical question! Don't want to start an off-topic fracas.
