Arrow 2 - Tommy Got Shafted...Bit Late, BUT SEASON 2 SPOILERS!

Because Green Arrow does not already exist in a world of Superman.

In terms of the show Superman has never been mentioned. There also hasn't been any super-powered characters yet. The closest is Deadshot with his robot eye. I think this is intentional as it allows us to buy into the show. Now they have the tricky task of introducing the super powers. It works fine in comics but I think it's a lot trickier in live-action. There's a reason why Nolan stuck to non-powered Batman foes.

I heard they were going to connect the show to Man of Steel so a mention may occur soon. At the moment, besides the earthquake, there's nothing that would have warranted a super hero turning up. If they start bringing in powered foes as well as powered allies then it does become an issue.

Laurel made an obvious reference to fishnets last season. I think in reference to a past Halloween costume.

They might not come out right away, but I expect to see them at some point.

Agreed. It'll be an evolution when Laurel goes all Black Canary on Starling City.

Don't worry, if it's anything like the DC reboot it won't take long until female characters go back to fishnets or complete lack of trousers.

This show is getting a lot better with the fun dialogue. Diggle won with his "It could be worse, my secret identity is a black driver" but there were several other great lines as well.

I'm guessing this Blood guy is

Brother Blood from the comics? That means he's probably at some other game rather than just saving the glades. Could be interesting as he seems genuine so far

. I kind of feel that Oliver should have turned up to the benefit - he could do more good there in the long run than he could with the drug supply. I don't want the show to turn into board-room meetings but I think a guy of Oliver's intelligence should realise which battle to fight at any given time.

Who was black wolverine?

I hope the cliffhanger isn't just a case of a smoke arrow.

I thought this was a bit weaker. The medical shipments keep getting highjacked, and not only does this not make the news, not only does the police not do anything about it but FEMA (or whoever) keeps sending stuff again and again with inadequate security and in the dead of night? Are we supposed to infer that whoever was responsible for the shipments was working for/with the Triads or something?

Also felt like a waste of a recognisable villain, any random gang could have been responsible with little change to the episode.

I liked his "You know it freaks me out when you refer to yourself in the third person?".

I also appreciated that Felicity takes pride in her real job and is not entirely okay with just giving it up. And the fact that she just can't stop talking in double entendres around Oliver.

I hope the cliffhanger isn't just a case of a smoke arrow.

It has to be resolved very quickly, either by Oliver himself or through intervention by somebody like Black Canary. Everything else would lead to Oliver's unmasking, arrest and lifetime imprisonment. I don't think the writers want to change direction that dramatically.

I cannot get behind Laurel's complete 180 on the matter poof the vigilante.

I'm also not thrilled that the news media, and thus the public, cannot come up with a better name that The Vigilante....

Who was Black Wolverine? Wasn't there a guy on the Suicide Squad?

According to imdb he is Ben Turner aka Bronze Tiger, and he may be connected to the League of Assassins.

Also imdb may have a spoiler regarding the identity of Black Canary.

The crime story was pretty weak. Surely the police should have escorted the FEMA shipment (or FEMA have extra security)?

That line was pretty telling considering what was happening in the island flashbacks.

Not my favorite episode. I feel like the writers are taking too many short cuts to get them to where they want to go.

- Laurel's 180 felt forced. Hood saves half the city but she wants to take every available cop from stopping crime to get him because he wasn't able to save her boyfriend? Come on.

- Laurel's constant involvement in situations that a ADA wouldn't be involved in until enough proof was there (ie: interviewing Roy, going after the Hood with every cop at her back).

- Police not doing anything about the FEMA trucks but instead focus their time trying to catch a vigilante who actually stopped crime from happening and got medicine to the hospital.

Ultimately, I think it mostly boils down to Laurel. Can't say that I'm going to be a huge fan of her taking more of an active role. I'd love for Laurel's sister to throw her off a cliff and take her place or something, ala Orphan Black (without the throwing off the cliff part). That would probably make this show infinitely better.

Things I did like includes Felicity's humor, Diggle in action, start of Roy and Ollie and island storyline.

So far I'm rationalising it as displaced guilt since Tommy only died because she went back/stayed in the building to get some files.

While I'm intrigued by the dead Japanese soldiers on the island and the ship that is destined to be sunk*, the hints of some kind of love triangle between Oliver, Slade and Shado annoys me.

*They totally need to have Oliver go back to the island at the beginning of every season, so that they can keep retconning stuff into the establishing shots that will then be explained through the flashbacks. The fourth or fifth season should open with a shot of the mask and then pan out to reveal the shipwreck, a crashed space shuttle and Godzilla's rotting corpse.

I mean, I get the rationalizing...I just hate it. Makes for a bad story full of unnecessary drama.

As for the love triangle, it actually makes sense to me. Hot, sexy woman, two badass guys, spending every hour and every day together? No real surprise if people start having feelings for each other.

Well I guess they may need to set the island characters on paths that put them more in tune with their comic counterparts. Plus there was plenty of sexual tension between Slade and Shado in their training fights before anything sparked off with Shado and Oliver.

The Laurel stuff is pretty forced. She now seems to drive around with the police all the time as well. Never mind being able to have a SWAT team hang around her office all the time.

Laurel's 180 is totally ridiculous. I do have a lot of love for Felicity and not just because of the tight dress. The whole "I'm not an exec assistant" thing was fairly good, especially once Digg waded in with the "think you got it bad, my secret identity is his black driver".

Loved the "black driver" line.

Though the snappy quips and action made it worth the watch, sadly this episode made almost no sense:

-FEMA trucks delivered in the night without guards.

-Why does Diggle take off his mask during the fight? Especially since we know there's a Hood outfit in his size.

-Laurel hating The Hood, though I don't care as much about this. I sorta feel like she was always a bit iffy on the idea of a vigilante who kills people.

Wasn't Bro Blood some psycho kid with magical powers though? Same with the other possibility - Jason Blood.

Ah. Yeah. Bronze Tiger was who I was thinking of. Pretty sure he was on the Suicide Squad at one time too.

Too Planetary. They already did the rotting Godzilla corpse... :p

Actually I wondered if they were going for a Jason Blood connection and having Etrigan appearing at some point...

Jason Blood would work better as I don't get the impression the guy is bad at all. We better keep an eye out for his lines rhyming. Thing is he's named after the most recent incarnation of Brother Blood. They could be throwing us for a loop with the surname. I'd rather have Etrigan as long as he doens't rhyme all the time.

I really hope they don't add magic to the show.

Bad enough that the Flash shows up, though some people involved with Arrow suggest the show's universe will stay grounded.

Personally I expect the whole thing to implode.
