Wow Mel was on absolute fire tonight! Love how they totally gave her a 'Basic Instinct' momet, and to be honest as hot as she was tonight, that might actually be worth dying for! Haha jk but really........

Best quote of the episode belongs to Tyrion:

Tyrion: I won't bed you until you want me to.

Sansa: What if I never what you to?

Tyrion: And now my watch begins.....

Hahaha hilariously epic!

Btw in the next episode they better show the scene where Robb tells Cat he's naming Jon his heir in his will, I'm really getting the sense that they're not gonna have that scene on the show, which IMO would be total bullshit, because it's a scene that shows a very realistic and reasonable explanation of why Cat has a problem with Jon Snow in terms of her worry about her children's inheritance that she backs up with historical precedence/facts aka the Blackyre rebellion.

Agreed except on one point. As she was taking off her dress, Tyron CLEARLY was looking at her with lust. I'm glad that they at least added that wrinkle to the scene. Tyron isn't some kind of saint.

In the books, does Sansa look like a woman like she does in the show? I can't remember, but I know she's supposed to only be like 12. In the show she could easily be 18 or 20.

Some people are comfortable watching sex scenes because the idea of two people having sex or being nude doesn't frighten the altar boy in us. I don't understand this pretend higher moral ground some posters have where nudity is supposed to only be shown when its 100% necessary.

you know it's really not that. I actually liked this sex scene with Melisandre because it was sexy and given some kind of plot and character development pretense that meant the characters weren't completely just showing gratuitious and poorly staged sex for an hbo executives twisted guess that people want to see bad porn. i'd like to see even better sex scenes that show people behaving in a sexy but also slightly realistic or believable manner. But when people complain about most of the sex scenes in GOT it's pretty much because they suck. Gimme something real, not bad porn.

I thought that from a visual standpoint, this was a truly beautiful episode. From the Hound and Arya in the fields to the ravens in the god’s wood, to the entire wedding scene, there was something incredible about how everything looked.

Other than that….

What I liked:

-The wedding was exceptionally well done, and I especially enjoyed how Tyrion’s drunken behavior afterwards just accentuated how sad and horrible anyone’s life can get. While everyone was yoking it up and while Tywin was holding the whole mess together, Tyrion’s complete collapse was perfect to accent how absurd it all was.

As far as Sansa “kneeling”; it’s a different set-up. In the book, Sansa is utterly blind-sided by the wedding and her lack of kneeling is her ONE act of defiance in the face of this horrible action done to her. In the show- Sansa has had a GREAT deal of time to think this all over and any protest would be done to the ONE person who is acting graceful towards her – Tyrion. In the book, Tyrion is silent to the whole thing; he has no chance to be decent. Here, he does and I think Sansa does not want to be a petty jerk to him because he is much shorter than she.

(and in the show the absurdity of their heights is pronounced. Seriously, Turner is REALLY tall).

-I liked a lot of Stannis and Davos’ interplay, most notably that Stannis grieves for Davos’ loss and that Stannis is apparently torn by what is being done to Gendry, a boy he does not even know. I especially liked how Davos explains, at long last, why it was fine to kill Renly (traitor) but not okay to kill Gendry. I thought it all was crafted very well.

-Dany’s entire story-line was good specifically because it was so minimal and understated. Unlike last season where we got bogged down in Auarth and its empty, uninspired and vacant politics, Yukai is a battle of wits and Dany was able to pull one over on the Second-Sons specifically because she played the middle against the two ends. I thought that scene had the danger of becoming slow and meandering, but instead it was perfectly fine.

-Joff: Still a fucking prick.

What I did not like:

-Mel’s work here had the “worst of both worlds” effect in that she said she was going to be subtle with Gendry saying he never will see the blade… and then she shows him the “blade” (in the form of leeches) AND it needlessly makes Stannis out to be a HUGE asshole and for no reason. In the books, its his own blood, but now it’s Gendry’s and for no really good reason. Why do we need another reason to dislike Stannis?

-And so, next week will be amazing because … ah… because… wait, what happens again next week? This problem could have been avoided had we, you know, thought about Robb Stark this week and not, I don’t know, locked him away some place. Caring about Robb makes…. The NEXT episode all the more emotional. But at this rate we may give a shit more if Shae was killed at the wedding; fuck- she’s in the show more than Robb.

-Speaking of horrible, poorly acted characters. And so ANOTHER WEEK of terrible, uninteresting Shae making mean faces at Tyrion and Tyrion being a wuss and making sad faces back. Why the fuck do I care about Shae? Why does she not get this? Why is she offended by this? Why are we subjected to it! Holy FUCK! You are a prostitute! I would LOVE IT if JUST ONCE in THREE FUCKING SEASONS you acted like it! Just once! One time, here me; I’m using my “one time” just for you, your terrible accent and your terrible dialog and long stares. That was time we could have spent with Robb. But no- we spent it looking at Shae look at Tyrion looking at Shae looking at clean bed sheets.

-And if you are going to make Cersei horrible, does it have to be so open and obvious? Really?

And so next week is the best episode of the season, we think. I think they have taken the last three weeks off; the last two have not been “bad” but uneven. This episode was better than last week’s, which was better than the week’s before. But the lack of consistency is noticeable.

Again.

uh, kinda. She's 12 but is really tall and has boobs already and is starting to look like a woman. She gets looks from a lot of guys because Cersei won't give her new dresses and the old ones are really tight. The Hound comments on her changing appearance also.

Naked Mel > naked Ros just saying.

Pretty good episode. Was it me or was Cersei just talking about Castamere a bit odd? It didn't seem to necessarily fit -- kinda like they just put it in there to setup for next episode. Oh well.

I think the best part about this episode was the pacing. No scene felt rushed and the transitions were just smooth and natural. I really wish they do this in future episodes. Deal with only half the characters but give them a proper sub-arc instead of just giving each person 2minutes token time on screen.

Also, HOW GOOD WAS IT TO NOT HAVE THEON THIS EPISODE!!!!!!

Naked Mel > naked Ros just saying.

"WELL, I DISAGREE." He said, while choking a bitch.

"AND GOOD NIGHT".

But yeah, I'm thankful for a whole episode without Theon. By the way, I can't wait for the "reveal" of where he is. It's so freaking obvious it's painful.

Oh, and on he subject of Cersei, I don't think they made her horrible, they just made her bland and boring. A completely passive character with nothing to add. It's that or, as with Jon Snow, the actress is doing an atrocious job.

Sorry, I only made it through the first eleven pages, so my apologizes if this has already been pointed out:

Melisanre told Stannis it is best to slaughter before the prey recognizes terror (obviously paraphrasing).

Then why in seven hells would she "agree to a demonstration" while her "prey" is sharting all over himself?

However, I loved this episode as whole. Maybe just the comparison to the chamber-pot material GRRM gave us last week makes this one look better.

*fingers crossed* for next week to hold up it's end of the bargain.

Having no Theon certainly helped; hope he's done for the season though I highly doubt it.

In the books, were the leeches using Stannis' blood or Edric's? I thought it was Edric but I really don't recall.

IIRC the leeches were Stannis and Edric was set up to be burned while Stannis was idle (since Blackwater).

People bringing up "whitewashing" in general (on a regular basis) are good at one thing: eliciting eyerolls. Everyone has their talents.

Like dammit!! LIKE!!! The above is made all the funnier by the post that directly follows it:

They made Sansa kneel, WTF.

Enough Tyrion whitewashing already. He's very different from the one of the books

I do not judge. Funny is funny.

what's that? American holiday?

It is an American Holiday where we honor the fallen soldiers. It has also become the unofficial start to summer in the US. As such it is a 3 day weekend for most people and people travel, go to the beach, bar-b-que, etc while others remember those who have died in service to the country. As a practical matter, S2 Ep9, Blackwater, had the lowest ratings last year, even though it was one of the best because it was on memorial day weekend. Thus they are taking a 1 week hiatus.

Episode was very cool:

- Carice Van Houten as Mel is great. I liked the whole scene. I wasn't sure if they really were going to deviate and just kill off Gendry versus using leeches, so I felt some tension. She should have used a blindfold however to reduce his fear. For anyone who is interested in the actress, she was incredible in Black Book.

- Dany and Daario scenes were awesome. It hit the major plot points of how he came into her service. Now let's see if their future scenes are as fucking annoying as the chapters in the books. Dany is supposed to get emo and start spending way too much time in Mereen.

- Sam the Slayer, recognize. I liked how the wight ignored him like an insect. Big mistake. The crows swarming could be Bloodraven keeping watching or Stonehands. Who knows.

- No Theon. His torture scenes were starting to get annoying. It's great they're taking a break for a while. Maybe when we see them again, we'll get more story and talking instead of torture.
