[Book Spoilers] EP308 Discussion

Recommended Posts

I am going to go along with this explanation, true or not, because I can think of no other reason why this was included (minus hbo's apparent nudity quota).

On another note, Aww at my Onion Knight learning to read!

That was a Reading Rainbow moment... with Targ undertones which I liked.

I watched this episode at a bar viewing party and found myself all alone screaming, "SLAYER! SLAYER! SLAYER!" at the end of the episode. There were a lot of funny looks. :dunce: I LOVED the scene with the Titan's Bastard, I take it from his head that he won't be back for Mhysa...

I wonder how they are going to do the Dance with Dragons when Tyrion joins the second sons

They could simply have the Second Sons turn their cloaks and join the enemy army, leaving Daario on Dany's side. Further, they could pretty easily make Ben Plumm the second in command who turns on Dany and convinced the Sons to swap sides.

Ha! Yeah, simply just say no to Tywin, that's precious.

Lol, ikr? "Father, I've traded Sansa Stark for one of our cousins. I forget which one, we do seem to have so many." Cut to Tyrion's head on a spike, Tywin looks up at it & threatens to smile...

It was a good way of adapting the wedding scene, but it would have been perfect if it had been a surprise for Sansa, it would have been a much better line of story.

Maybe Coldhands will be replaced by Jojen in the way that through his visions he will know where the three eyed raven is. Or Bran will know. If they are taking away other parts of the book, I see them taking Coldhands also.

So you're saying Sam and Bran don't meet? How would Sam find his way under the wall without Coldhands?

Yeah, wouldn't want Tyrion to suffer the pain of marrying an unattractive woman which is the only thing that Tywin threatened him with if he said no.

Arya and her rock – yay for book loyalty. And Stranger looks promising!

By the previews I thought that the scarred man, the Titan’s Bastard, was Daario by the clips they showed. Instead he’s some longhaired Absolut Hunk wannabe who’s not even pretty =( Sorry, I see the fangirls are already swarming, but the way his eyes are set creeps me out. They made Drogo such a hunk, was another good looking piece of man eye candy so hard to hire?

“The second sons have faced worse odds and won/run” lol

Don’t like how they seem to be merging the Second Sons, Stormcrows, and especially the Golden Company though. How will that affect the storylines of Tyrion and fAegon?

“I’ll come visit you soon…” Yes, I bet you will Melisandre.

Love the book Davos is reading =)

One of the moments that made me really lack pity for Sansa was when she refuses to kneel for Tyrion. I am so frustrated by little things they change for no reason. How hard was it to keep that little bit true? Some people on this thread are saying that was her moment of strength. I think it’s her moment of pigheadedness and cruelty but to each their own.

God Gendry’s abs <3

That sex scene with Gendry seemed much more realistic than any they’ve shown so far. But leech on the cock? Damn that’s brutal, even for Melisandre.

“Your brother will become your father in law, that much is beyond dispute.” QoT is really only there for comic relief, she proves that week after week.

“I am the god of tits and wine. I shall build a shrine to myself at the next brothel I visit.” I don’t know why that made me lol so hard, maybe because he was trolling Tywin, but damn!

Jack Gleeson continues to be one of the best actors on this show. I won’t miss his character but I’ll miss the actor. Maybe they should die his hair blue and make him fAegon.

Sansa is supposed to be only 14? I thought they aged everyone up, and she certainly looks at least 17.

“And so my watch begins” - that’s a nice touch.

And why did they take out the whole story about not naming children? I guess they can do the Dalla-Gilly child switch still without it, assuming they actually introduce Dalla at some point. Considering how little we’ve seen Mance Dalla is hardly important at this point.

Sorry, but all the crows in the weirwood were fucking creepy. And “It’s come for the baby”? How about the Others just hunt and kill humans? However, SAM THE FUCKING SLAYER, about fucking time!

Overall, this episode automatically trumps the last few because there was no Theon torture porn.

How does that change the fact that he was willing jailor of her? Are is okay to keep an innocent imprisoned if you think it is good for your family and thus that prisoner doesn't have a right to complain?

Eh I have to be totally honest.. As far as I am concerned Tyrion has always been dedicated to his family because he is innately loyal, reluctantly so. He is ridiculed, scorned... and I see an affinity with Sansa. I do not in any way see him as her jailer. He is intelligent & realizes what can & cannot be accomplished. He makes the best of the situation at hand. Tyrion is diligent, strategic & tragic. His entire life would be the equivalent to present-day therapy/medication methods. I think his actions have always been admirable & respectable. Most other people in his situation would've discussed his concerns & regrets towards Sansa after bedding her. Tyrion didn't bed her. The sexual deviant he is held back from his urges. That, in itself, speaks volumes.

i agree I dont like the merger either. but the more I think about it I have to keep the book and the show apart. I am glad I read the book though because they are way better the show.

How is someone that keeps another person imprisoned not a jailer? Just because he does it for understandable reasons doesn't make him exempt from being a jailer. Hell, look how much he hates Lysa for keeping him prisoner and for all he knows she believed him to be the killer of her husband thus he is a hypocrite if he believes it is okay for him to imprison an innocent for family but not Lysa.

Most TV viewers probably would not have seen Sansa's refusal to kneel as a sign of defiance to the Lannisters in general. They likely would have thought, "Wow, what a bitch. I hate her even more now."

Book, show, or both?

Sansa should NOT have knelt.. but douche Joff took the stepstool away, and no Dontos so... well she did kneel, out of pity. It wasn't well conveyed on screen. Shae checking the sheets.. eeww, nasty. Now 2 weeks until the next episode.. how come?

My one big problem (I finally thought of one) with this episode, is that the mercenary group (merged) should have been called the Storm Crows to leave room for the Second Sons to enter as one hired by the slave cities and then hooking up with Tyrion. It would have at least given them the freedom to include both.

Maybe they couldn't pay all the extras they would need for that.

I hate, hate, hate Mel. Hate her from the books, to start with, but really hate this whole TV bit with Gendry. I don't see what purpose it serves.

I like the nod to Jon that Tyrion gave

What was the nod to Jon? The "Now my watch begins" bit?

I've read up to page 9 of the comments and I'm a little suprised that the Stannis/Davos/Melisandre scenes aren't getting the credit they're due. We finally got to see a well done scene between Davos and Stannis that shows the fantastic relationship that exists in the book. Season 2 never captured it, the scene on the boat where he's named Hand was done quickly and stressed more why Davos is referred to as the onion knight andbwhy Stannis knighted him. The dungeon seen tonight showed how Stannis recognizes he needs our Onion Knight's counsel. That even after Stannis' royal pardo Davos still threw in a jab at Melisandre with "I'll still speak against her" was icing on the cake!!!

Dragonstone for the win tonight!
