Irelands Gemstone Posted June 23, 2013 Share Posted June 23, 2013 Anyone can suggest another citizen for knighthood, but it is unfashionable to suggest oneself. Im not sure how one goes about suggesting to the American government that they suggest to the British government they grant an American citizen a knighthood for contribution to fiction and literature, only that it is possible. George would not be allowed to refer to himself as Sir formally, as he is not actually British, but could put KBE after his name, to signify that he is indeed a knight. The UK secretary of state and foreign commonwealth affairs deals with this sort of thing, but to get to him you would need a petition with a minimum of 5000 votes on it. Does George have 5000 fans willing to sign an online petition to get him a nomination for knighthood?Chances are they will look at it, smile, then bin it. but I think its worth a try, to show George what his fans think of him ....It might take him longer to write the book though.
