So did Stannis basicly win the war of five kings

Actually Stannis is so great a King that he is beyond these little wars. He dismisses the little brats and the grey old man (Robb, Joff, Renly and Balon) and goes to fight the real fight to protect even his enemies.

Agreed, so much. This is the true showing of the mans character he goes north, north to fight the true enemy, the enemy he was born to fight the others. And, win or lose, live or die, Stannis will always be the one true king of westeros. The only king to give a damn about the realm.

I suppose what counts as 'winning' can be subject to some interpretation.

But no, Stannis did not win. Tommen still sits the throne and he was Joff's heir, when Joff died. Stannis lost the battle at king's landing and Robb Stark's kingdom was effectively ended at the Red Wedding. So, the lannisters won their war with those two kings, at least for the time being.

War of the Five Kings, was it really about the Iron Throne?

- Lannisters want: to keep the Throne.

- Robb wants: not the Iron Throne, but independant North, accepted by everyone.

- Greyjoys want: independant Iron Islands.

- Stannis wants: the Iron Throne.

It wasn't totally about the Iron Throne, and now it is somewhat over. The new war is starting. I would say nobody won the WOT5K; the Lannisters continued sitting on a Throne which has done othing but screw with their family; the Starks failed due to sheer bad luck and a bit of incompetence, the Greyjoys set up their own impending failure since they're kind of stupid while Stannis suffered a blow to his campaign only to rise again in the North.

So Stannis probably suffered the least in the long term from the WOT5K. That's my take on the war.

how? IMO she was just using stan stan as a pawn to get to jon

In her POV it was quite obvious that she's starting to loose the grip she used to have on Stannis in the beginning,She thinks Jon is interesting but I don't think getting to Jon was ever part of her plan.

The Lannisters considered the war to be over because Stannis had been virtually destroyed, Robb and his faction anihilated, Greyjoys hardly even moving and Renly's faction also destroyed and integrated into the IT. They were wrong obviously as Stannis still presents a great threat and so the war isn't over at all. Especially now that the Greyjoys are going for real conquest and Aegon's arrival.

War doesn't end with a transition of kings. Half the Riverlands remained in open rebellion without a king. The War of the Five Kings, to be absolutely technical, hasn't ended. The Ironborn remain in outright rebellion and are invading the Reach, and Stannis remains in rebellion and is conquering the North. Renly and Robbs death didn't end the war. There is no victor because it's not over yet.

But if you subscribe to the war ending with the submission of the Riverlands by Jaime, and consider the current Ironborn and Stannis wars as separate from the War of the Five Kings, then for all intents and purposes Tommen won the war.

The war of the five kings was a Lannister victory and resoundingly so. 3/5 kings were killed and Stannis was pushed back significantly. The current conflict, a part of the larger construct of the narrative, is the one in which Stannis can be said to have the upper hand in.

I agree with those who say that the WotFK conflict hasn't truly ended yet and therefore there is no winner of that war. Two of the five entrants have been defeated and had their forces absorbed by other factions (Renly's and Robb's) but the Iron Islands continue the war under a different king and Stannis is still fighting the good fight.

"The Lord of Light protects King Stannis, now and always. All your swords and all your scheming shall not save you when his hour comes."

"The scouring fire will come! King Stannis will return! "

It is known.

Like I said, Stannis actually suffered the least long term from the WOT5K. He's up again, and if he wins the Wintefell battle (loads of hints that he will), he caqn descend upon an anarchy-ruled South. Perfect conditions for any rebel King to attack in.

Joffrey won. It wasn't the war, but rather Littlefinger/Olenna plotting that killed him. By the time of the purple wedding, The war was pretty much over - Robb, Balon & Renly dead, and Stannis fled north with only a thousand or so men.
