Season 4 Roundup

Westeros

The stag's head thingy is a decoration or entertainment, I'd guess.

I don't mind "White Walkers" instead of "The Others." Besides Lost associations (which the show really wouldn't want...lol), viewers can't see the capitalization. It's like "the other what?" Given the plethora of British accents it would be even more confusing for some American viewers. And, while I think 'the Others' looks more foreboding in print, it loses its punch when spoken.

I would rather the Others on the show were "beautiful" and "elegant" as GRRM described them, though. There's something compelling about that.

True.

Although it's pretty interesting that they look almost wooden in the show, at least to my eyes. A clue as to their nature perhaps?

Well, I remember that one or two people said they found the White Walker from the season 2 finale kind of sexy! :uhoh: Maybe there were more people like that, since the VH1 site even made fun of it in this hilarious article (see the last entry!): What Does Your Game of Thrones Crush Say About You?

Wooden, that's interesting! I see that now, too!

I noticed it in 2x10 when a WW approached Sam.

Maybe it's nothing, just a curious design choice by the show, but then again... it could be a hint that there's a deeper connection between the Others, weirwood trees, and the Old Gods. Frankly, when one thinks on the whole shades of grey, subversion of tropes thing Martin is renowned for, I tend to doubt the Others will turn out to be some kind of generic black&white zombie-spawning bad guys. It's a safe bet that the known mythology of Martin's world is heading for a serious 180 turn sometime during TWoW or ADoS.

I don't know if this were posted already, but here are BTS photos of the Purple Wedding.

I was wondering where they would film it, since the throne room is a little small, but I never thought of an outdoor wedding. Interesting.

Ohh, thanks for sharing. I don't know how I feel about it being outdoors, but I'm excited to see it!

I'm pretty sure the Purple Wedding was filmed in Gradac Park, in Dubrovnik.

On the topic of the White Walkers look, I mentioned it after the season two finale that they do, in fact, look tree-ish, which may (or may not...) be a hint as to their true nature. The face of the White Walker looked suspiciously like that of the faces found carved into the weirwood trees.

I don't know if this has been posted here already, but there are some new, low-quality pics from season 4. A couple of them may are a bit on the spoilerish side, so preceed with caution:
