Lynesse Hightower? Opinions? Going pop up in the series?

It said something on the wiki about even the Archons of Lys wife living in fear of Lynesse. The impression I got from that is that Lynesse is a formidable and influential woman. It wasn't unusual in eastern societies for court concubines to rise in such influence. Roman Emperor Justinians concubine later became his empress Theodora and held huge influence over him for instance. Do you think this is an accurate assumption? Her brother seems to be going to her because she is the one really in charge and who they would appeal to for Oldtown to get sellsails; as is mentioned to Sam in AFFC.

Do you think she might appear as a minor character then? She is technically an exile herself and seems very ambitious. She wouldn't be the first person to work with Dany for personal benefit and a chance to return to Westeros. Her position of power and influence in Lys could also be a big asset as well as her contacts to Sellsails which Hightower seems certain of. Dany needs ships as well. Lots of them.

How do you think the woman would interact with Daenerys? I just have this image of this taller blond woman thinking she can easily manipulate (n she probs can in fairness!) the child queen. She would certainly have an interest in opposing Victarion as an Ironborn and in trying to make Dany help at Oldtown. She would definitely become an enemy if Dany sided with Euron. Plus if Jorah is dead at this point then it would be a good aid to Dany reflecting on her own time and comparing herself to Lynesse.

I am pretty sold on her going to turn up. Do most people think this way?

I'd love to hear her side of the story of hers and Jorah's marriage. Jorah's description of events put the blame mostly on her but I always got the impression that Jorah was one of those people who always shift any real blame away from themselves.

Isn't her brother on his way to see her? In which case the Hightowers know were she is and if she was a slave the Hightowers would demand the Tyrell's and the Redwynes help them burn Lys to the ground to get her back.

Not at all, concubinage implies merely a continuous relationship without marriage, nothing about slavery. E.g. Shae is called Tyrion's concubine in the books. All we know from ACOK about the relationship with Tregor Ormollen began is that Jorah said she moved into his manse while he was away, nothing about how she was supposedly taken or enslaved or anything.

Later, Jorah describes it as "she had taken a lover". That lover later threatened Jorah with debt slavery if he didn't push off, but if it's Lynesse who "takes a lover", then that does very much not imply that she was taken as a slave.

It seems to be backed up by what Cat heard some of Jorahs relatives say about the event. Plus, Sam hears her described as a "whore of a sister". So its not just Jorah who says bad things and how exactly would you argue that Jorah was at fault for his wife not taking well to life in the North?

Jorah could've told her before the marriage that his island is poor, life there is boring, he's usually not much good at tourneys and that he couldn't afford to give her nearly the luxury she was used to. Apparently he didn't do that.

To be honest, I've always found their marriage really implausible. Lord Hightower could've easily found a way better marriage for Lynette given what a sunning beauty she was.

Not necessarily. She was a long way down the family tree (9 older sibs). Her older sister was married to a minor knight.

I suspect she wasn't a virgin at it was well known. That is why she is called a whore by her brother and Lord Hightower accepted Jorah's offer.

I'm more interested in Malora Hightower, aka, The Mad Maid who is locked up atop the high tower in Oldtown with her father, Lord Leyton Hightower, while Baelor and Bros run Oldtown. She is supposed to be a sorceress.

I think that she will be an enemy of Dany regardless because of Jorah. She still cares about him in her own way, and I think he will find his way back to her and earn her good graces somehow. And Dany knows what type of person she is, greedy and power hungry, and wouldn't trust her if she did offer alliance. Some think that this will be Dany's 3rd betrayal (one for love) but I think that although Jorah still loves her in some way, he knows what she cost him (his family, his home, his honor) and knows that Dany is the one who can bring him home.

Not for a younger daughter of one of the richest Houses in the realm who's also a stunning beauty. Even Jorah himself expected Lord Hightower to refuse his offer immediately. "By rights I should have gotten a contemptuous refusal, but Lord Leyton accepted my offer."

Hopefully, the fate of many of these minor characters remains a mystery and George deals with getting the outcome of the majjor and minor plotlines summed up in the next two books. We are going to be going to the books store with our own personal forklifts as it is.

If enough of the minor mysteries remain we will have something to talk about once the books are finished. I hope he leaves a lot of the small things unanswered. I hope Tyrion never finds Tysha, Trek Lannister never shows up, etc.
