:agree: This seems most feasible to me, she is more powerful at the wall, Ghost looked back at him as if he was a stranger IIRC.

Maybe once Jon has mastered his Warging a little more it will be harder to interfere with his link...

What about Tyrion? None of the Starks wolves liked him much even Ghost.

They could smell he was a Lannister of course darling... heheh

The Direwolves as a group are very intuitive. They didn't like Joffrey, Jon was rescued, as was Bran, etc..

If Ghost did not like Mel that would instantly be interpreted by readers as future conflict between Jon and Mel. GRRM is just telegraphing that Jon and Mel have overlapping goals and hence will be working more closely together in the future.

Mel has a unique skill set that will be extremely useful to Jon. Stannis had many of the same skills as Jon and hence from GRRM's perspective he was not only expendable but would only get in the way of Jon's story if he was kept around. Hence Stannis is gone and Mel will re-align and serve Jon because of their common cause in defeating the Others. Obviously, Mel would have trouble serving Jon if Ghost disapproved of her.

As Melisandre has stated in her chapters, her power near the Wall is as strong as it has ever been before.

She wanted Jon's trust, so why not make someone he trusts more than anyone, Ghost, trust her?

You can argue that the old gods are with Ghost, so Melisandre's magic wont work on him; but then there's Mance who's as northern as ghost, and it worked fine on him.

But it could be that Ghost just likes her soooo....GRRM

The direwolves reacted to the "smell" of Lannister - nothing personal against Tyrion.  Summer remembers that smell from Bran's fall.
