After which book was the five year gap supposed to take place?

After the third one, Storm of Swords.

BIG D&E SPOILER

Maynard Plumm is in reality Bloodraven, so no, that one ain't a Blackfyre. :)

If you're implying that he is their ancestor, I highly doubt that.

I was implying that Maynard was no relation to the Blackfyres, I really have no idea who Brown Ben is descended from. see the second post.

It seems that every person with mystery background has to be some very important. So I wonder if there's a theory about who is the Elder Brother of the Quiet Isle?

He claims to be third son for a landed knight who fought for Rhaegar. I can't figure this out.

They do not have to be important, it is just people having a need to try to find out their background. As for the elder brother, one theory I remember reading is that he is a Darry

Just so. Everybody don't have to be important.

But Darry? I believe he said his father served a Lord who served a Lord who served a Lord who was in for Rhaegar. He can exaggerate here, but Darry is a Lordship who only serves Tully and this points to a lesser figure, more like a landed knight.

Olenna said she was to be wed to a Targaryen prince but stopped that before it could happen. She said later that Aerion was comely but a monster. I took that as a hint that she was offered as a bride for Aerion. But then I checked the Wiki. (Yes, I know, but I don’t have the app.) The Wiki does not list Olenna’s birth, but Mace was born in 256. That suggested to me that she was born between 230 and 240. But Aerion drank the wildfire in 232. Aegon V succeeded his father Maekar in 233. So the Targ prince had to have been one of Egg’s sons, no? Has anybody caught any clues as to which of the three (Duncan, Jaehaerys or “Unknown”)?

Well, GRRM himself admits he sucks at timelines. But I guess you can throw it on the "unknown" without conflicting with anything, since we know nothing about him, not even his name. Or it could be the Aerion's son.

ETA: or it could be Duncan, since his marriage was seemingly without anyone else's consent, that would explain why the Olenna betrothal was canceled

Anybody???

Ravens or messenger(s), as is common in their setting

Is it right that all of Egg's children married for love? If so, could easily be any.

Thankss I had forgotten about that thread. It's a pretty speculative theory but sound. And I see that one of the later posters noted that GRRM promised to reveal the story of Olenna's betrothal at some point.

So you're suggesting Lady Sybell sent a raven or a messenger from Riverrun under Robb/Edmure/Blackfish to Lord Tywin at King's Landing?

Raven would be hard to send because they are controlled by maesters, but messenger is perfectly possible. She has her own sworn men and friends willing work with her against Robb and it would not be that hard to find an excuse for them leaving, or even smuggling out of castle unnoticed, it is not a high-security prison after all.

Actually I think the plotting was done between The Crag and King's Landing, either by ravens or riders. In addition to the point you raise, doesn't Grey Wind already not like a few of the Westerlings when they first arrive at Riverrun?

Actually you might be close to the truth. Remember how Grey Wind didn't like Rolph Spicer and Cat wanted Robb to get rid of him? Well, Robb sent Rolph to escort Martyn Lannister to Forley Prester's garrison at the Golden Tooth after agreeing to exchange Martyn for Robett Glover. And who is the new Lord of Castamere?

But dispatching riders from an armed camp during time of war would not be done easily. And to travel relatively safely through a warzone would require a strong escort.

This is exactly what I was thinking
