When I started liking "the hound"

Sandor Clagane, Arya abandons him, wounded, in the forest.

There was something like "the good in him" in a Darth Vaderish way in aSoS

He sort of protects Sansa, asks her to sing for him... Then the ralationship with Arya...

I sort of started to root for him...

I know, I always liked the Hound. He's not necessarily a good character, but as GRRM has said, none of them are. I really liked him. Can I ask, have you read all the books? If you have, I may have some good news for you.

I started liking him mainly when he and Arya are together. Yeah they argue most of the time but there are tender moments that are bittersweet too (like when Sandor brought the topic about Arya's mother but she said she knows she's dead.. then he nodded).

I found myself kinda rooting for The Hounds character, I think as a reader I want to see him get some kind of happiness either from being in love or being free. I liked the joust scene with his brother on the show i think that's when i started to appreciate The Hounds character and see development and in the book his journey with Arya was great to read.

I feel that at the beginning the Hound is presented to us as a character that we are not necessarily supposed to like. However when we are told the story of how he was burnt I felt myself start to sympathise with him. From then on the reader sees his actions in the light of someone who was never really appreciated, not even by his brother and who is just trying to get the bet out of his lot. Obviously I don't condone all of his actions but understanding his background helped me to see why he presents himself as such a viscous character.

I really like the hound for a number of reasons. But I am always a sucker for the wounded 'dark' character who needs to be fixed. He's so broken like they all are, I think it's hard to dislike someone in the books when each character has so many real levels to them. And I think his relationship with sansa is so beautiful in a way. When people say they ship them there are bad connotations surrounding it with age etc. But I just think they help each others character develop, there is some real beautiful emotion between them although it's so mixed up. GRRM himself is fond of them and has said he definitely created something there although some don't acknowledge it because they don't like it. It has such beauty and the beast qualities, I think it's one of my favourite pairings. But then I'm sadly a romantic if that's what you'd call it and this sort of thing touches me. I probably see more in it or only see the good qualities. (sorry for this ramble, I'm just rereading sansa chapters because I like her alot and this is a big part of them)

I started to like the Hound after the Tourney of the Hand, when he escorts Sansa to her chambers and tells her his "story". While their relationship developed, I started rooting for him too. When he found Arya, I wanted everything to be ok for them both. However, it doesn't seem he will be fine after ASOS.

Sandor Clegane has one of the best story-lines, and it's probably due to the fact that he is one of the few characters in the series with an 'uplifting identity crisis' arcs.

Let me explain what I mean. Sansa goes from being a noble lady to disguising herself as LF's bastard at the end of ASoS. Jaime is constantly called Kingslayer. Brienne also has her own mini-identity crisis over her position as a female knight in Westeros' society. And:

Theon starts losing his identity.

Now Sandor starts off being called 'The Hound' - he is animal-istic, in other words, he lacks what makes him human after being treated as 'dog'. In fact as you read the first book, there are two occasions where Ned Stark refers to Sandor Clegane by his name (once, when he is thinking about Sandor's past regarding how he got burnt). And that is when you realise that Ned does in fact respect Sandor, or feel some sort of empathy for him.

When Sansa's direwolf - Lady, is killed and Arya loses Nymeria, we see Sandor almost immediately after. 'Dog' is closely associated with 'wolf'. So in a way, Sandor acts as the Stark girl's temporary faithful companion. We see acts where Sandor rescues Sansa from rapists, and then when he helps Arya during the RW. And when Sandor leaves Sansa, Sansa loses her identity as a Stark. When Arya leaves Sandor, Arya becomes lost.

Through these symbolism, it is hard not to like/ appreciate Sandor Clegane - the unlikely knight saving our favourite girls! : D

And regarding the whole identity arc, he is being called 'The Hound' less and less - which is lovely! In fact Arya starts calling him Sandor, which means that she does respect him - even if reluctantly!

GRRM does this with a few characters.. Obviosly we start to like the Hound for the reasons that you noted. The same type of change in feeling happens with Theon. We absolutley hate him after his sack of winterfell but end up rooting for him once he becomes Ramsey's captive. All of us can agree that Cersie is one of the most hated characters throughout the novels but I find my feeling sorry for he as she is making the naked walk from the sept to the Red Keep.

well , i didn't like him , but after his interaction with sansa and when he showed his true face (he's not that cruel) i started liking him! He is a good guy but he's brother destroyed his dreams , i don't like his brother , but the Hound is a gentleman at heart!

he's just a badass character

I just started liking him more and more is all

I hope he lives till the end or goes out in an honorable way, I have a feeling GRRM likes him too. you can tell the characters he enjoys writing I think (that could just be my imagination tho)
