Tryion under modern standards raped Tysha, but, perhaps not under the standards of Westeros. GRRM does say this was horrible for Tyrion but that Tyrion was thinking of himself and not of Tysha and the scene must be understood to have been filtered through Tyrion's POV.

He does intimate we may meet Tysha.

Any context for the dragon-skinchanging thing?

It should, of course, be possible for a skinchanger to control a dragon. They are animals. Was this question about the Valyrian/Targaryen drabongbonding stuff, or the general question whether dragons can be controlled by a skinchanger?

George does intimate that warging may be involved in dragonriding.

Dude! GRRMs first statement to that question was that there is no relationship between dragon riding and warging because they were completely different traditions. Then he suggested that there might be a bit of a mystical relationship between dragon and rider but that is all.

So, it seems increasingly likely that Tywin has gone quietly insane after Tyrion's birth/Joanna's death... I mean, giving Tyrion such an "evil name", specifically that of somebody who hurt and tortured women and gang-rape of Tysha with Tyrion required to watch and participate are all part of the same pattern, IMHO.

Tywin certainly assiduously cultivated and shaped his "doom" until he finally became a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Interesting, that Starks and Targaryens continue to recycle certain names even when they become associated with evil individuals i.e. "Brandon the Bad", "Aegon the Unworthy", etc., while Lannisters just abandon such names as "tainted".

What is the new info about Brightroar, BTW?

Tysha?! Ugh, can't at least some characters _stay_ lost/(dead)? Some plot-lines need loose ends, such a complex story becomes too unbelievably tidy otherwise, IMHO. A mechanism.

Skinchanging and dragonriding - well, it always seemed likely to me that it is a specialized form of skinchanging. OTOH, I imagine that few Targaryens are capable of going beyond initial stages of bonding, which merely protect them from being harmed by their dragons and ensure a certain modicum of obedience. Heck, if Rhaenyra had been a decent skinchanger, her son Joffrey wouldn't have died. OTOH, her grief and rage may have given her strength to drive Syrax into suicide afterwards.

My question was whether GRRM meant that scene with Tysha to be ambiguous as a rape scene, since so many readers didn't realize it was horrific rape.

Essentially, GRRM said that the Tysha incident was written from Tyrions POV and that in medieval times in the cultural tradition there is no such thing as rape for a prostitute and that there was no marital rape because the husband owned the wife. Tyrion was too upset during the event anyways because of the perceived betrayal and his version of the story is based on what he was thinking about himself, not Tysha.

So when people read that story, some readers are caught up in Tyrions viewpoint (only thinking about himself) when most women read that story from Tysha's viewpoint.

And I thought there was no intimation whatsoever that Tysha will show up again. That was just a throwaway comment about the way we would know how Tysha felt about that episode.

Also, Tywin was real big on destroying the women and children of enemy houses - throwing babies down wells, off of battlements, and of course, killing the 300 women and children of the Reynes. All when he was 19.

He seems to be a complete sociopath.

Edit: whoops, wrong thread.
