Horza
Sorry it was not a routine recheck at all, AEC may want to claim that but when outsiders bring up the discrepancy first then AEC has no leg to stand on.1) the AEC re-counts all votes as a matter of routine, so yes, it was a routine re-check.2) if you want to substantiate this claim that the discrepancy was found by someone else first, now is the time. gryphon strike
It was pointed out on Q&A by bloody Clive Palmer of all people before they did any recount. You may think the Gov etc is above reproach but Some of us have our eyes open and look at deeds rather than words.

You may think the Gov etc is above reproach but Some of us have our eyes open and look at deeds rather than words. So your source for the AEC being challenged on the Indi results before a recount is Clive Palmer ranting on Q&A about alleged discrepancies in the vote count in a different seat... five days after the AEC announced it had discovered a vote pile had been mislabelled in Indi. Horza
Well, the AEC have rejected Scott Ludlam and Sports Party Guy's application for a partial recount (unlike with House recounts the tight margin isn't enough), so that sorts out the Senate: LNP 33ALP 26GRN 9PUP 3SEN X 1LDP 1FF 1DLP 1AMEP 1 Depressing. Combined centre-left total is 35, with Xenophon in the middle and seven right-wing crossbenchers to get the Coalition to 38. EDIT: Palmer clearly kingmaker: getting something passed without his three (provided they play along) requires corralling Day, Madigan, Leyonhelm, Xenophon and Motoring Guy - something probably beyond the talents of Mitch Fifield. Family First's Bob Day quit the Liberals when he didn't get nominated for Lord Downer's seat of Mayo, and has lovely views about industrial relations. He got up through Labor's early exclusion, which sent a whole whack of their preferences to him over Xenophon no.2 Stirling Griff (what a name... our upper house is poorer for its absence). Or something like that, it's goddamn complicated.
brook
Bah I can't believe we all let Clive Palmer buy himself three seats in the senate. Glen Lazarus ffs!
Horza
Eh, it's the Australian political class's fault for being such a pack of uninspiring drongos. The combined major party vote was below 80% this election - the second time that's happened in the postwar era, the first was 1998 with Hanson. People are over the posturing when there's so little ideological difference between the majors and the policy menu is a set of technocratic tweaks. Apathy has opened the door to fly-by-night operators like Palmer who only have to say "We're not like them!" to rake in votes.
Stubby
A sad tale of a young male that was lured by the hard drinking hard living lifestyle of WA's north, only to meet his end in an encounter with a road train on a lonely stretch of highway. gryphon strike
So your source for the AEC being challenged on the Indi results before a recount is Clive Palmer ranting on Q&A about alleged discrepancies in the vote count in a different seat... five days after the AEC announced it had discovered a vote pile had been mislabelled in Indi. No he was ranting about discrepancies in multiple seats including the one mentioned he had already raised the matter long before Q&A,if they do a recount as a matter of "routine" then why have they denied a recount in other cases? Sorry but the entire idea of a democracy is that the people do not blindly follow and instead regard the "establishment" with suspicion. an idea that seems to have become lost when we have politicians like P.Reith saying we should be glad to be getting shafted by the right honourable poli's and their expense claims!
