The History of House Estermont

Since Cassana Estermont was the mother of the three Baratheon brothers, and since Dunk made sort of a fuss about their banners in the Hedge Knight, I was wondering if the history of House Estermont will be included in the book? I also know that GRRM likes turtles and even has a turtle pendant, so I'm wondering if House Estermont has a sort of secret, interesting history, that lends new credence to the phrase, "slow and steady wins the race." Yep to me personally, House Estermont is perhaps the most underrated, interesting minor house in at least the Stormlands, if not in the whole seven kingdoms.

To me the Estermonts have kind of been another of the one-in-a-dozen Houses across Westeros. But I will agree that its entirely possible that they will have a greater importance in the story or history.

The Old Man in the River was a turtle god of the Rhoynar, which might imply a Dornish or even old Rhoynish origin for House Estermont.

I like your idea, especially when you consider Doran's marriage of the friend of Arianne to Stannis and Robert's uncle Eldon Estermont. I believe their uncle was Eldon, but they never gave their grandfather's name cause it doesn't come up in the wiki.

The Lord Estermont mentioned and appearing in the first 4 books is the grandfather of Robert, Stannis and Renly but unfortunately, he died near the beginning of Feast without note. His younger (70 year old) brother, Eldon, took over the Lordship of Greenstone and gained himself a new young (23 year old) wife. Or at least that is what I surmised is the relations between the Estermonts from the text and changing appendices! I wanted to change the family tree on the wiki but I don't think that is possible for a youthful (28 year old) member like myself!

Eldon Estermont has two sons; Aemon and Lomas. In another thread, it was theorised that Rhaenyra's frustrating Red-Viper-Targaryen husband was actually Lomas Longstrider. Making Lomas a potential-yet-odd Valyrian name or a name given by his non-Targaryen parent. In that case, Eldon named both of his sons after Valyrians/Targaryens. Maybe he had a Targaryen wife?

Eldon, his wife and his mentioned sons and grandsons are all alive and well:

Eldon and Sylva are being escorted by Marq Mandrake to Jon Connington.

Aemon and his son Alyn are both at King's Landing in service of Good King Tommen.

Lomas is at Storm's End defending against the siege lead by Mathis Rowan.

Lomas' son Andrew is escorting his bastard cousin, Edric Storm, to Lys.

Although they are relatively minor characters, I see potential in at least one of them having a role to play.

Very good input and very good input specifically on the Targ influenced Estermont names. I have had a feeling for some time that the Baratheon brothers might have been Targ through both sides of their family trees, that might be why Stannis and his daughter still live? Also it might explain why Dunk thought that the Estermont's were so prestigious in the Hedge Knight, after all he admired them and mentioned them right alongside the Tyrells. Now that might mean that he just liked the color green, but Dunk was not a simpleton who just thought about the colors that he liked and nothing else, so it's possible that major noble marriages were a common happening for House Estermont. But on another note, Cersei deserves a little irony in her words and life, and after she insulted Cassana's marriage to Steffon in Feast, wouldn't irony come to the fold if the Estermont's were revealed to be something totally different than what she expected?
