He's the son of Arthur Dayne and Lyanna Stark.Here's the evidence:- We know he's related to Arthur, because his surname is Dayne.- His first name is Gerold, obviously in honor of Arthur's companion Gerold Hightower.- He professes to be "of the night", which is something Batman says sometimes. What's the sigil of House Whent? A bat.What do all of these knights of the Kingsguard have in common? They were at the Tower of Joy with Lyanna. Ergo, Arthur was the one who impregnated Lyanna, and they decided on the name Gerold Dayne together. Lyanna made Ned promise to keep the name, and see that he was raised in Dorne. He would be Gerold Sand, or Gerold Snow, and if he was indeed legitimized at some point in his life, Arianne would have mentioned it by now.Also, indeed, I have to agree with Mladen, Darkstar is just too old for it to even be possibly true.
