jobmartell
Has anyone read it? A few chapters in and I haven't lost myself yet. Picked up a limited signed edition due to many grrm comparisons prior to US release. Does it get any better or was it a waste of time and money? polishgenius
It's nowhere near as good as a Song of Ice and Fire. Most glaringly, the writing is occasionally clunky, and it deals in occasional ridiculous scenarios like farmboys easily consorting with princesses straight from the Eddings/Brooks era which hangs really weirdly with the dark, almost Bakker-esque direction of the overall plot. It's not bad, and has some strong ideas behind it, but it's no landmark and probably won't garner too much attention in the long run. Calibandar
I bought a hardcover in my enthusiasm last year, but the first couple of chapters didn't excite me.I hope it will get better when I pick it back up again.
Darth Richard
Did this ever come out in the US? I remember it looked interesting, and was supposed to come out here a bit ago, but it got delayed and then kind of dropped off the radar.

jobmartell
I felt the same @polish. Almost automatically didn't the feel the world. . The online reviews are what got me. One said review was by Mark Lawrence, author of the broken empire triogly and one of my favorite. Felt like I should take his word at it? Also, it's not being released in the US until December 3rd I believe. Very bummed.
