  2. So? This series was never about what you deserve. I get complaints about the execution (it sucked) but people getting salty over their favourite characters not getting happy endings are ridiculous.

U.S. Politics: You Didn't Think It Would Be So Easy, Did You?

Well, I can tell you one thing. If a candidate goes on Fox News to make nice, I will not be voting for them in the primary. So fuck you Sanders and Beto. Why not just don Nazi regalia and march around and then Instragram it?
  4. snow is the man

Purpose of the wall now ?

There is no purpose. They don't even really have to deal with the wildlings since so many died. It's basically just sending criminals and traitors to winter camp forever. Although I think jon just left.
  5. Absolutely phenomenal analysis pudgiebudgie. This is what I live for! I love to read intelligently thought-out theories whether or not I'm completely on board with them, and ASOIAF lends itself to that more than any other modern literary classic. Whilst it's disappointing that D&D as 'showrunners' and not 'show writers' cannot maintain GRRM's quality, I'm really glad that you do acknowledge the reasonable job they do do. We live in such a dumbed-down age that 90% of the viewers of a pop TV show just can't appreciate the nuances of a story that goes beyond cliched tropes, that posters like you are so deeply buried under the dross that it takes me a week to find you! Now it would be a disappointment if, after all your fine work, I could offer nothing more than a 'hooray!' or 'boo'!, so I do have something to add for your consideration. Where you write about the child survivors having to protect themselves in a hostile environment I'm completely on board with that. When you're talking about parents protecting their children, I think you're missing a trick. The fault isn't yours or the show runners - it ultimately comes down to the inherent sexism in the writer George RR Martin. Consider this - you rightly identify that the FATHERS made errors. I'm thinking of Ned, Robert, Tywin and Jamie (have I missed anyone else significant? Your analysis of Sandor also fits here). However, they all made parental mistakes whilst staying rational and dignified. The MOTHERS on the other hand - Cat, Cercei, Daenerys (with her dragons) (not sure Lysa really counts as she's consistently wishy-washy) turn irrational and hysterical when their children are threatened. I think it's notable that the female characters who don't get over-emotional, like Brienne are motherless. GRRM undermines so many stereotypes, but here I think he lets himself down a little bit.
  6. Really because there are several threads saying the opposite. One of Brans first visions is exactly what we saw in Ep 5, the dragon shadow across KL. Exactly the same path and shadow. Brans response to, would you be king...Why do you think I came here? Means, he came to be King. I never thought he could see the future but these things point to it being possible.

    *SPOILERS* Jon useless information

If Jon isn't ok with marrying his aunt, I don't think he would ride his dad.
  8. Turning the LOtR's High Fantasy tropes upside down: The wizard instead of destroying Saruon, becomes Saruon, and will rule them all -- including the bended or unbended -- I can't figure this one out -- knees of the North, the 7th Kingdom. In the 7th Kingdom he shall start breeding white walkers/wights baby orcses.

West of Westeros: The Voyages of A. Stark

Stole this quote from someone else but wouldn't quote properly. A number of people here are wondering why Arya has turned explorer and sails West at the end, but this was foreshadowed in Season 6 Episode 8 when Arya was in Braavos. While tending Arya's wounds from the Waif, Lady Crane invited her to join her theater group but Arya rejected that offer: LADY CRANE: Where will you go? ARYA: Essos is east and Westeros is west. But what's west of Westeros? LADY CRANE: I don't know. ARYA: Nobody does. That's where all the maps stop. The edge of the world, maybe. I'd like to see that. And so, with her business in Westeros settled, she did! So Arya told us flat out on screen that she was going to do exactly what she ended up doing.

    Who was Daenerys turned into?

Sure, that's why GRRM will have to do a much better job than D&D who rushed her development ridiculously. But there is nothing inherently wrong with the Mad queen Dany arc unless you are just a Dany fan who insists on some sort of happy ending
  11. snow is the man

    Who was Daenerys turned into?

Yeah which she all of a sudden decides to do. She went from "this will be the last war" to "lets keep going to war" No this was crappy writing plain and simple.
  12. I love how Sansa has basically the same motivations at the end as Dany, with both desperately coveting a throne, but the story turns Dany into an evil Hitler-eque monster while Sansa is presented as justified (despite actively working against Jon).
  13. Jaime the Goldenhand

Use one word to describe the series finale.

    Torture.
  14. KingMudd

    Gendry?!

It's not democracy it's an elective monarchy and going by our own history it isn't going to end well. Most elective monarchies ended up electing people from the same family and eventually introduced hereditary succession after a while. So Westeros most likely goes back to how it was in a few hundred years.
  15. I'll just go with "Trash"
  16. On screen we don’t have any indication that Bran can see the future, but if he did this is his arc, no? He should be able to know that they are safe since there wouldn’t be another future than the wall falling by the dragon. This is what the inside the episode tell us: there is no other way, no other future (if he could see it).
  17. Show, don't tell. The show constantly tells us one thing while showing us another. We're discussing happy endings. Tyrion definitely got that. Not only is he given a chance to redeem all of his past wrong-doing, but he is literally given the job, recognition, and power that he always wanted. Everyone in the story lost loved ones, friends, family, but only Tyrion never had to pay the price for any of the bad decisions he made. St. Tyrion may repent for his trespasses. Consider that Tyrion is a man guilty of patricide, accused of regicide, who was also hand to the genocidal Dany, it's a small miracle that the common people have enough compassion to even let him try to redeem himself. This is the happiest, most white-washed possible ending for Tyrion. So much for, "if you lose the Game of Thrones you die". Nope. You just a redo, but you're sad about the whole thing.
  18. Ser Lepus

    The Six Kingdoms

Nope. Sansa wasn't the official ruler of the Vale; she just revealed that Littlefinger had killed her aunt, and the Valelords supported her, but Sweetrobin is still their Lord Paramount, and the guy sitting next to him (Royce?) is their de facto ruler. As for the Riverlands, they followed Robb, but I haven't seen any clue that they intend to follow Sansa too. They only sided with the Starks against the Lannisters because they were family... And anyway, Sansa treated her uncle like crap in front of the others... why would he follow her rather than Bran, who is his nephew too? When Sansa announced that she was going, Sweetrobin and Edmure remained silent, and Tyrion said "the Six Kingdoms", implying that only one of them was leaving...

    Who was Daenerys turned into?

Awww... C'mon! Bronn is no worse than just about any other noble or candidate for the council. And better than most.

Use one word to describe the series finale.

    assholes
  22. As others have already posted, s1 is the weakest season, but the others are all very strong with s2 being fantastic. A prequel of sorts to Treasure Island. Great characters and very interesting storyline that matured as it progressed. Great finale that doesn't spell it out for the viewer. One of my favorite series.
  23. snow is the man

Dany CAN (And Shall???) Rise Again!!!

but they won't do that? Oh my friend never discount their potential for horrific writing.
  24. Nymeria Stone

    Who was Daenerys turned into?

to this and to many other similar comments, all I have to say is: FORESHADOWING IS NOT CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT.
  25. I made my theory that the Night King actually wanted to kill Bran, specifically Bran because he knew Bran and the 3ER was evil and corrupt. For all we know, the Night King might not have been that bad. I'm making up my own theory because this shows incompetent writers cant give me a pure answer. But he does say "Why do you think i'm here" or w/e he says in combination with the times he actually did see the future, it makes me think that he might actually have planned this all along and was the MAIN player of The game of thrones. He was the downfall of Littlefinger too "Chaos is a ladder." He knew how to play the game because he had seen how it has been played in the past up to the point of Dany coming and perhaps before that and perhaps constantly keeping an eye(raven) on them all. They say he cant have children and that's good. But we also don't really know how long he will be alive. It could be for thousands of years for all we know. Perhaps he wants to find the dragon too, because he doesn't have an army and being able to warg the dragon from a far distance, would give him a something better than an army. And if he is taken over by Bloodraven, he is a bastard Targ inside the body of a stark (ICE AND FIRE). The only thing I cant see, is what he would want to do while on the throne. What would his purpose be? But they did say that "Bran died inside that cave." So.... I don't know. It's what some people I guess have already thought of and I honestly don't think Dumb & Dumber thought of it in this way. But if this is the ending GRRM wants, then perhaps this is exactly what it will be played out as.
  26. Bear Claw

    Who was Daenerys turned into?

Her character? What about Jon? Wasn't he supposed to care about innocent people? Wasn't he trying to save the people of Westeros? Yet, even after Dany kills everyone in KL, Tyrion has to be Jon's moral compass because Jon now only cares about Dany.
