  1. Past hour
  2. I was just coming here to post that, but see I was too late. Eventually 3rd (and more) party support does wane towards November, so we'd expect the effect, whichever way it goes, to also be smaller down the line. Still, every bit helps, and RFK Jr is actually on the ballot in Michigan (havent checked other swing states) so every little bit will help.
  3. Nope. I found the recent solar eclipse to be awesome in the literal sense of the word. My dad is pleased emotionally watching baseball. Neither of these things are art. Art is more than just something that produces an emotional response. This premise here, that the rest of your post is based on, simply isn't true. I'm not going to argue that art requires the creator to have an intentional message, or that it be understandable. But I think (so this is just my opinion) that one of the differences between art and something else, is that art requires an intention to create on the part of the person doing it. I'd argue that not all photographs are art. Not all books are either. The artist is in some way marking the art by taking something that is inside themself and putting it outside into the world. Art predates written language. We've found bone flutes over 100,000 years old. There is an element of self-expression in art that makes it what it is. You could argue that we're all just meat robots and that anything we do is a byproduct of our programming and our experience at that specific moment of action, that there is no such thing as originality, that everything created is simply a reassembly of things that came before. As a person and maybe a Luddite, I disagree. AI-created stuff isn't art. It might be a really good facsimile thereof, but we're going to need a new word for it. It's not the same thing when the creator is removed. I think we might already be at a point with graphics and music where we can't necessarily discern if something is AI generated or not, where we can't actually tell if it's art or not. I can't tell the difference between a fake diamond and a diamond simply by looking at them. It doesn't mean they're the same thing.
  4. Echoing others, I've been there as well. It suuuuucks, no doubt about it. I think @Toth is right, cutting off contact might be the right idea for now, but it definitely doesn't have to be forever.
  5. No. It’s coming at them through a dating app. They are convinced it is real despite all evidence to the contrary. Can a human have real love for a bot? Can that love be real the way people defending AI “art” claim AI output can be “art”?
  6. If true it would certainly provide an explanation for Howland Reed's exile
  7. Indeed, it's better! I'm not someone who does a lot rewatches, but I think the whimsical world depicted would be a main draw, as well as Emma Stone's glorious performance. As to your spoiler
  8. The big difference with Arsenal is that they didn't make the same mistake United did. They realised that they needed to put in a proper structure above the manager post Wenger. It didn't work out with Sanllehi and Mislintat but they didn't abandon the approach because of that setback.
  9. Tell that to my elderly relative who has fallen in love with a bot designed to ask for money after softing them up with complements. They refuse to give money and to believe the bot is a bot…
  10. Anyone else felt like jumping back into TW ‘Shogun 2 after watching Shogun ? Still the best TW game I’ve ever played! Also on my 3rd play through of BG3, the Urge to always play this game haunts my mind forever !
  11. Today
  12. Israel’s government officials now actively campaigning for Trump. And it won’t change a thing, it won’t matter in the least. https://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/2024-04-24/ty-article/.premium/netanyahu-minister-says-he-would-vote-for-trump-biden-strategy-hurts-israel/0000018f-104e-d70d-a58f-d9ffb9d20000 “Netanyahu Minister Says He Would Vote for Trump: Biden 'Causes Real Damage' to Israel Relations” https://m.jpost.com/breaking-news/article-798396
  13. I just finished the book, and flipping through the photos from the movie, I find myself pretty reluctant to tune into the movie. I know I shouldn’t judge by the photos only but I absolutely loved the novel and my gut feeling is that the movie wouldn’t improve the experience.
  14. Biden, Trump tied for first time in months in 3-way race with RFK Jr Thought I’d share this because it aligns with something I noticed yesterday looking at RCP’s latest polls - that in a number of them, Biden is actually doing slightly better in the polls that include the third party candidates than in head-to-heads with Trump The first thing you see at RCP are seven swing state polls from Bloomberg/Morning Consult. Should be noted these still don’t look good for Biden, but interestingly, in three of the states Biden is actually doing a point better in the 5-way race than the head-to-head. The margin is the same in two other states, and Trump is doing better in the 5-way in the last two (much better in Nevada). More striking is looking at the latest national polls. In the latest Quinnipiac, the two are tied in both. In a Marist poll, Biden leads by 5 in the five-way but only 3 in the head to head. And NBC had Biden up by 2 in the 5-way while Trump was up by 2 in the head-to-head. This could just be a blip, and the differences are effectively negligible, but I wanted to note the trend because it aligns with my prior: that even if Kennedy does win substantial support in November, he may well take more votes from Trump than Biden - or at least have a neutral effect.
  15. Damnit, it hasn't been two weeks yet. I won't go full rant then, just say pay to nationalise rail with new money.
  16. 'Googles hot pocket, runs to toilet to be sick immediately'.
  17. Still a good job though. OKC looked pretty good in what I've managed to watch this morning. I can't believe they have this good a team, while everyone is young, and still have about a billion 1st round picks over the coming years.
  18. Figured it was just a typo. Mentioned it cuz it confused me enough at first that I looked up their season average.
  19. And yet it's not the way they go now. But I'm not sure the 'boot room' model is replicable. More a one-off, I suspect.
  20. 14. Not an animal - but an animal is a character, so you've wasted a question 15. Yes, it is a book or a scroll
  21. Watched Poor Things finally. Not sure what to think about this. I liked the visuals and the, I think steam punk / Island of Dr. Moreau is my feel to the world. Some good performances. Just a strange movie that takes you through a lifetime of experiences, learning, growing mentally, in a matter of months or a year I guess for Bella. Strangely enough for a movie with a lot of sex and nudity, it never felt like it? IDK, I am glad I saw it but can't think of any reason I would watch it again.
  22. The repeated success they had with the 'boot room' in 70s and 80s makes me wonder why more clubs don't follow this structure. Shankly>Paisley>Fagin>Dalgleish was a pretty good run.
