  3. Neddy's Girl

    Rant and Rave Thread

Isn't it? Most people look forward to the show starting, I see the promos and think "Yes! Time for Rant and Rave again!" (And this time, the small hope that no more GoT means we might finally get Winds of Winter )
  4. Neddy's Girl

    Rant and Rave Thread

Phew. I've read the whole thread now. Thank you for entertaining me as I'm beyond even hate watching now! It's bad enough being let down so badly by something you had high hopes for but it's also the fact that most people (even people I like and respect) seem to have succumbed to some mass delusion. I was at the park with my show loving friend and pointed out a funky grandma in an "I drink and I know things" tee shirt. Ugh. It's that feeling of people taking ownership of something you love, turning it into something else, and not even knowing they're doing it. I think my friend got where I was coming from though. Looking forward to your episode 2 rants!

    Second Quarter 2019 Reading

Currently reading The Hunchback of Notre-Dame. Topical, and I have never actually seen any of the film adaptations, so I am going in blind. 150 pages in... Hugo loves himself some Gothic architecture.
  7. "A … crow?" The pale lord's voice was dry. His lips moved slowly, as if they had forgotten how to form words. "Once, aye. Black of garb and black of blood." The clothes he wore were rotten and faded, spotted with moss and eaten through with worms, but once they had been black. "I have been many things, Bran. Now I am as you see me, and now you will understand why I could not come to you … except in dreams. I have watched you for a long time, watched you with a thousand eyes and one. I saw your birth, and that of your lord father before you. I saw your first step, heard your first word, was part of your first dream. I was watching when you fell. And now you are come to me at last, Brandon Stark, though the hour is late." I think it is But maybe Quaithe who is also Shiera seastar is Bloodraven

"She's come across some frosty people in her life, but she's been able to kind of get rid of them. She can't get rid of these guys. They just simply don't like her and how can you fight against that? You can't. That's a bitter pill to swallow because at this point her ego is at a place that doesn't handle that too great. But her love for Jon is the thing that allows her to take that breath and try--try--to make friends." -Emilia in the Behind the Scenes video Out of the mouth of babes. Dany doesn't give a damn about the North. It sucks for her that she can't get rid of them because Jon clearly wouldn't approve. So basically the only stopping her from killing them all is that sweet Jon loving. Jon in S7: They will come to see you for what you are. Maybe Jonny boy, you should see her for what she actually is.

It's obvious they don't know what to do with these characters; since their story arcs changed, they became useless. Expect Varys to die (or live) ridiculously and do nothing until that time comes.

I just want to add that every moment we've been wondering about how they are going to happen in the books such as reunions, reveals and all, they ALL fall flat on this show.

    LOTR prequel TV series 2.0

Well, Tolkien's own admission about the "older legends" (The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien p. 333): In his Letter 131, which Tolkien wrote in 1951 to Milton Waldman of the publishing house, Collins, he writes that the Second age is a "dark age" in which: His words, not mine. If I see merry little hobbits walking around along Gandalf, out of place in the Second Age, I won't be pleased.

Oh no, I should have made myself clearer. The 'dark tales of horror' element was in reference to the bits at the bottom of my post, the human sacrifices in Numenor, their enslavement of the men of Middle-Earth, Celebrimbor's body being hung on a pole and used as a battle-standard etc. My reference to Aldarion and Erendis was simply to illustrate that even the 'romantic' stories are, well, not particularly romanticized from this age of Middle-Earth as many are accustomed to thinking of a Tolkien romance, as Tolkien purposefully wrote it but rather unsparingly messy, honest and realistic in the depiction of a relationship gone very awry that has disastrous ramifications for everyone involved. Consider the "non-love" affair between Aldarion's daughter Ancalime and Hallacar, with whom she has a political marriage to cement her succession to the throne against a rival, Soronto (who would have been heir under the old succession laws which passed to men alone but Aldarion changed it in favour of his daughter): Not exactly Aragorn and Arwen is it, or Eowyn and Faramir? Erendis raised her daughter Ancalime to believe that Númenórean men view women as being "for their body's need" alone. Erendis told Ancalime that men believe:

Is Climate Change Impacting Your Long Term Planning?

Why would the canucks move south? The only 2 nations who stand to gain from global warming are Canada and Russia. I think one of the reasons Putin is disrupting Western societies is because he foresees Siberia as the world's breadbasket in coming decades and is playing the trumpettes like (willing) idiots as he bides his time.
  15. Rickon Stark The Aulë

[Poll] How would you rate episode 801?

What major Northern house would willingly marry their daughter to the grandson of the dude who burned their liege lord and his heir and his father kidnapped and raped Lyanna Stark(I believe they don't know if the marriage was consensual) ? Are there any other daughters in their late teens left in the North?
  16. I m going to buy more sweaters because the solar cycle looks to be moving towards cold weather the next few years. Possibly a tactical turtleneck or two if the canucks start moving south.

    Pod-Emperor Acknowledged At Last

I feel like a heretic but if Pod were really God Emperor would his airport have sent Chloe's bags on to Paris? Mormont should stop spreading the fake news though because that article didnt blame Pod for nothin.

Thank you for the reminder. This shows how smart Sansa is operating. Everyone now keeps telling she doesn't have any power. Aren't they all taking her very seriously? Too bad I didn't rewatch the show before the new season started, I would have remembered better how things were.

In AEW news, Cody's opponent at Double or Nothing will be...Dustin Rhodes. Great promo from Goldust there. This is the kind of thing WWE is lacking. Emotional investment.

[Potential Spoilers] The Exodus Theory and the Show

We've had that confirmation for a long time. I obviously don't know what kind of story George decided to write, but I know that the Exodus is the best solution I can think of to the puzzle Feast and Dance left behind, and it makes a hundred times more sense in the books than it does in the show, because the books have plenty of set up for it. You calling it "awful writing" is just, like, your opinion, man.

    Song of Ice and Fire

Evidence points that Rhaegar was expecting the prince that was promised to be Aegon the Conqueror reborn. He named his son Aegon and his daughter Rhaenys. He probably expected a second daughter as the third head of the dragon who he'd name Visenya. However, he didn't have one, so I could very well see him name his second son as Aegon since he may no longer consider his first son to be Aegon reborn. He may have expected to have more children with Lyanna who'd he then name Visenya and Rhaenys It's also possible that he realized before he ran off with Lyanna that the children with Elia wouldn't be the prince that was promised and his sisters since she could no longer have children anymore.

    Heredity laws of westeros

As long as there is some distant relative who can claim inheritance, House Arryn will continue. If, on the other hand the Vale ends up fighting on the wrong side in the war for the Iron Throne, it might go extinct and some other House will be installed as lords of the Vale.

    George hates hero worship

Arya is evil for the only reason that anyone is evil: Because she does evil things. Which does not necessarily make her irredeemable. The story is ongoing. Most of these are cartoon villains. They represent the sort of "evil" that does not really exist among still-living mortals. The last two, who are slightly less cartoonish in their villainy, have their defenders and sympathizers. But again, they are evil for the same reason that anyone is evil: because they do evil things. Okay, if you won't imply it, I will. Dany is evil, because she does evil things. And again, that does not necessarily make her irredeemable. The story is ongoing. Well, that's terrible. However, objectively, her behavior is evil. But, she's so traumatized, maybe she can't help it? Yeah, maybe, maybe. And maybe Gregor can't help it either. Those damned headaches make him be evil. And maybe Roose can't help it either. Maybe Satan, or Rh'llor, or the Great Other, has him by the balls, so that he has no choice but to do the evil things that he does. She crossed an ocean to be with those death cultists. And I don't she chose it merely as a place of safety. So, on the one hand, she's evil. But on the other hand ….. she's still evil. Michael Myers was a demon incarnate. If that's your standard for "evil", it is rather high. I never read the Punisher. You just don't like the word "evil" to be applied to a character that is any way sympathetic.
  25. Saturno

funny of you to mention them because for some seasons now they all have the same purpose: DICK JOKES
  26. Saturno

    Dorne? Highgarden? Riverlands?

In a decent plot one could argue that for Arya to pull her over the top assassination of Walder Frey she would need to take some time on the Twins to watch and learn about Walder's routine, rotation of guards, identify his current wife, follow her, study her manneirisms, take her face and place, all with careful planning and observation, just like she did on Harrenhal and Braavos. And it would be very improbable that she would not hear that Edmure, Walder's enemy and prize, was a hostage in the castle. But alas this is not a decent plot, not even an average one, it is mediocre as D&D always break the very rules they've stablished and now Arya can simply be anywhere, anytime, being anyone without any cost, implication or narrative materiality. She will do and accomplish everything Dumb&Dumber think is cool without any consideration to internal coherency or verisimilitude.
