Tight tie between Arsenal and Bayern but Bayern pulled away in that last 45 to deserve to go through I’d say. We could really do with Real doing a Real here.

What Plessiez said. Vidit is trailing, but not hopelessly. If he gets on a late run with 2-3 wins, he could win it. Unfortunately for him, he can't play Nakamura again. Talking about Naka, I am still opposed to the idea of him becoming World Champion. I found the idea of him playing a title match absurd last time, and that was thwarted by a normal performing Ding in the last round. And given Ding's form, there's a very fair chance, that whoever wins the candidates will win the title. I haven't checked today's games, yet. But Firouzja looked like to be heading towards tilt territory in the last round (I wasn't entirely convinced by his f5 push). He might very well finish behind Abasov, who was really there to serve as the designated whipping boy.

Watch, Watched, Watching: Anybody but Superman

If you only have Netflix and not HBO you cant see Sex and city and therefore the audience for it is limited. But if they license it to Netflix for one year at xxx million dollars, they make money and grow the fan base. Then bring back the rights and hope some audience follows. Either way you made millions by licensing it to them for a year on something thats years and years old. -

Ongoing protests in Georgia against a new law pushed by the government against so called "foreign agents" (modeled after the russian law). The protesters have the backing of the prowestern President (head of state) and last year when the government first proposed this law they had to backtrack after long protests. Hopefully they manage to do that again...

No idea why you’re surprised, and it’s not pissing off any Dems. Republicans are threatening to use the dismissal against vulnerable Dem incumbents, of course, but both Tester and Brown literally laughed that off last week. It’d obviously be worse for them politically to grant legitimacy to such an absurd impeachment, devote multiple news cycles to it, then vote to acquit which ultimately they most certainly were going to do anyway.

I have read Fevre Dream and Nightflyers, and both were worth reading, although Fevre Dream was the better of the two. I would also check out Dreamsongs, his two part collection of short stories. There are some people on this forum who insist Martin is better at short stories than full novels, and I can see why. Short stories need to have an end in mind when you start, so you're never going to have meandering plot or bloated chapters about tertiary characters. Meathouse Man and Song for Lya are both excellent short stories.

The Mayorkas impeachment was killed without trial: https://www.cnn.com/politics/live-news/alejandro-mayorkas-impeachment-trial-senate-04-17-24/index.html I have to say I'm a bit surprised that dems would do this given that it pisses off some of the conservative dems, and that it sets something of a shitty precedent for the inevitable impeachment of various Trump officials down the line. Not that precedent should really matter here and would matter that much, but I'm still a bit surprised.

So far I have only read Fevre Dream and a couple of his books of short stories. But in some ways I liked Fevre Dream even more than ASOIAF. I am normally not a fan of vampire tales, but the way Martin describes his vampires and what causes vampirisim in Fevre Dream seemed better to me than any other way I've seen it done. I really think it's an excellent novel.

That's right, I can't believe I didn't think of that one. As far as we know, he's the first person to kill one in thousands of years. There's your Azor Ahai, Melisandre lol. -

Speaking of Brienne, her getting Jamie away from that boat after Cat let Jaime go was impressive as well. That was a hold my beer, watch this, type of moment. Also, now that I'm thinking about it. Gotta give a nod of respect to Sam the Slayer. The self proclaimed coward, did in fact kill an Other. That has to fall under badass. -
Kyle Walker making an early claim for title honours I see.

Sure, but I think theres a plethora of terrible "modern" commercial building crud that is only designed to be economical, quick and durability, aesthetic beauty and artisan crafting is skipped for efficiency. Thats the big concern that people do not want, they are crimes to architecture when considering the care of something like a cathederal or castle restoration. We dont want sheets of shitty gypsum replacing plaster and spackel work, we dont want chinese pre-fabbed panels replacing master craft mason work, we dont want some shitty vinyl resplacing beautiful copper cornice entrances and julian awnings. You can go cheap or you can go correct with integrity. Im confident the cultural heirs of things like the Fredericksburg Castle will come to the correct conclusions and kindly ignore the efficiency over quality pressures. God I hope so anyway.

I predict Arsenal will need another set of PKs to get past Bayern, just like with Porto.

- Patritotism! - but not really if it's just ultranatíonalism w/ everything that it entails. - Freedom! - but not really when it's only for some and the opposite for 'others'. And of course, "save the children!" - but truly not at all when it's both an excuse and a way of forcing children to be what some expect them to be and not at all about really saving anyone since there are actual millions of children that do need saving - from hunger, from disease, from war - all over the world and we are doing fuck all to save them, and this applies to the "save the children" crowd more than anyone else. -
I'm hoping for Haaland to recreate this Callejon miss myself.
